Synthesis of Laterally Difluorinated Ester Liquid Crystal

Abstract:Two types of six laterally difluorinated ester liquid crystal compounds were synthesized from 4-bromo-2,3-difluorophenol by esterification with alkyl cyclohexanecarboxylic acid or alkyl bicyclohexanecarboxylic acid and then coupling with 4-butylphenylboronic acid catalyzed by Pd(PPh_3)_4 under N_2.Totle yields of the objective products were higher than 50%.The mass fractions of the pruducts by GC were over 99%.Structures of the liquid crystal compounds were confirmed by IR,~1HNMR and MS.The results of DSC show that these liquid crystal compounds exhibit high clear points(280 ℃)and broad temperature range of mesomorphic phases.
