Abstract:This study based on the theory of preparing cash flow statement in the enterprise at home and abroad. It studied and discussed the principle and foundation of cash flow statement compilation, the methods of cash flow statement and the classification of the cash flow. It designed the cash flow statement which could completely and really reflect cash status in non-profit hospital and meet the requirements of different statement users. In the last part of this study, it introduced the preparing process of cash flow statement by taking a non-profit hospital for example. By this way, its scientific can be tested and the foundation can be laid for actual spreading.

Abstract:Based on the structure of statement of cash flow, this paper develops a model to measure the management of cash flows from operating activities (CFO). We verify the model's effectiveness for the sample consists of 6146 firm-years over 1998-2006 of Chinese listed companies. We find that those companies with the incentive of reporting positive CFO or transcending CFO in previous year have much higher magnitude of CFO management. The results indicate that there exists the phenomenon of CFO management for Chinese listed companies, and these management activities are motivated by different incentives.

Abstract:Cash flow is the lifeline of an enterprise. At present, there are deficiencies in China's current cash flow statement classification presentation. This article aims to explore the optimization path of China's cash flow statement presentation. First of all, the article analyzes the deficiencies of the current cash flow statement presentation, including the structure is not reasonable enough and the information disclosure is not comprehensive enough. Subsequently, it puts forward targeted optimization suggestions, including maintaining the internal consistency of the statements, strengthening the transparency and accuracy of information disclosure, and promoting convergence with IFRS. Optimizing the presentation of the statement of cash flows can help improve the readability and usefulness of the financial statements, provide investors, creditors, and other stakeholders with more comprehensive and accurate corporate financial information, and promote the healthy development of the capital market.

Abstract:Objective:To indicate the difficulties of operating private non-profit hospitals by a comparative study of a private non-profit hospital and a public hospital in the economic performance and the social benefits. Methods:In-depth interviews and a questionnaire survey were conducted to analyze the economic performance and the social benefits of a private non-profit hospital and a public hospital. Results:Between the private non-profit hospital and the public hospital,there were differences in the economic performance and the sustainable development ability. Conclusion:Public hospitals surpass private non-profit hospitals in the economic performance and sustainable development ability.

Corporate Cash Reserves and Corporate Governance Mechanism: the Empirical Study of the Chinese Publicly Traded Corporations

Abstract:This paper,by presenting a sample of 254 firms from seven industries,tests the relation between corporate cash reserves and governance mechanism based on the cross-section data of publicly traded corporations in China.Findings show that the factors which affect the corporate cash reserves in developed countries also work on the ones in China.Whereas,these factors have opposite effects on the Chinese corporate cash reserves.On the base of the analysis of this phenomenon,we suggest that the different effects of variables are attributed to the difference of the composing of the cost and lucre of corporate cash reserves.In the perfect market economy,the motives of the precaution and the entrenchment effect of corporate cash reserves are more important to the agents than that to the ones in un-perfect market economy.The corporate managers in China care more about the current on-the-job consumption and prettifying performances through spending the cash reserves as quickly as possible.To sum up,the difference in the use of cash reserves is the major reason for the diverse effects of the agency problem.Furthermore,we show that Dittmar et al(2003)'s conclusion is wrong.The reason for why the corporate cash reserves is higher in poor-shareholder-protection countries than that in better-shareholder-protection countries is that the optimal cash balance under the condition of maximum shareholder's wealth is much lower in better-investor-protection countries.Contrarily,the agency problem diminishes the difference of corporate cash reserves level between the perfect and un-perfect market economy.

Abstract:This paper presents a comparative study of the financial reporting practices of three Chinese companies listed simultaneously in Mainland China (A‐shares) and Hong Kong (H‐shares). Their financial statements, prepared based on the accounting and disclosure regulations in China and Hong Kong (or International Accounting Standards, IASs) over the period of 1995‐1998 were studied, including an examination of their corporate structures, and vertical and horizontal comparisons of their primary accounting numbers and key financial ratios. This study demonstrates that significant discrepancies exist for financial information disclosed in terms of Chinese GAAP, Hong Kong GAAP or IASs. In addition, there are notable deviations in financial disclosures among the three companies. The study findings confirm the existence of a substantial gap between the Chinese practices of corporate accounting and financial reporting and the internationally accepted norms. It is suggested that there is an urgent need to promote internationalization of Chinese accounting and improve the understandability and comparability of financial statements released by Chinese listed companies in order to enhance their relevance and usefulness for decision‐making by domestic and overseas investors.

Abstract:Usually, the normal development of the enterprise because of the daily business transactions constantly, need to estimate the cash flow of the enterprise, so that the enterprise decision-makers grasp the current development of the enterprise, real-time evaluation of the enterprise, so as to make decisions for the enterprise. According to International Accounting Standard (IAS) 7, the cash flow statement reflects the addition and subtraction of cash flow. The main purpose of cash flow statement is to provide information about the financial situation of an enterprise, including the source and use of funds, for decision makers and investors of an enterprise. Cash flow statement is an important index to measure the sustainable development of enterprises and the main factor to measure the financial strength of enterprises. As an integral part of financial statements, cash flow statement can reflect the net assets of enterprises with fair value, and show the operating results and financial status of enterprises through flow changes. It provides a reference for enterprises to test whether they can fulfill their payment obligations, pay dividends and pay dividends to investors. In this context, cash flow statement plays an increasingly important role in the development of enterprises. In order to make a better economic decision, we must study the cash flow statement in an all-round way. Firstly, it studies what information can be disclosed in the cash flow statement. The second research problem discusses the direct method and indirect method for calculating cash flow. Considering that cash flow statement is an important financial statement of an enterprise, any enterprise needs cash flow statement to help enterprise management and investors make decisions. Therefore, the third problem is the specific calculation of cash flow statement and the matters needing attention in the application process.

Abstract:Objective: Compare and analyze the medical resources and health expenditure status in China and developed countries, in order to provide useful reference to the currently deepening our reform work. Methods: Data analysis and literature study are used. Results: Compared with developed countries, the medical resources in China is generally at a low level, but the average number of hospital beds is relatively high; the total health expenditure, health expenditure and health expenditure per capita growth were faster;total health expenditure proportion of GDP is relatively low, and the growth rate is slow;the government health expenditure accounted for the proportion of total health expenses increase rapidly. Conclusion: On the basis of continually increasing health investment China should adjust the structure of medical resources, change the health service model, improve related mechanism, value system and the innovation of science and technology, constantly improve the limited resources and funds performance and maximize the protection of resident health.

Abstract:We study financial reporting and disclosure practices in China using survey methods similar to prior studies of U.S. firms (i.e., Graham et al., 2005; Dichev et al., 2013). Comparing earnings features, motives to manage and smooth earnings, and voluntary disclosure practices between the two countries, we reveal three major differences. First, Chinese firms exhibit a stronger preference for predictive, relative to verifiable, attributes of earnings that can signal stable firm performance to their stakeholders. Second, smooth earnings are desired by various stakeholders and can be achieved through coordination among connected stakeholders, which is conceptually different from earnings management. Third, Chinese firms consider public disclosure as less relevant in the reduction of the cost of capital. In addition, Chinese firms do not have a bias towards conservative reporting. We explain and reconcile these differences as resulting from some unique institutional features of China. Our study provides novel field evidence that contributes to, expands, and directly corroborates existing empirical studies. 0 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Attitudes of Chinese Listed Enterprises Toward Cash Flow Manipulation: A Resource Dependence Perspective

Abstract:The prevalence of cash flow manipulation has drawn much scholarly attention in China and worldwide, especially since the exposure of the accounting scandals at Enron, WorldCom, and Qwest. Cash flow status also provides a sound basis for corporate valuation. Using a sample of 12,251 firm-year observations from 1999 to 2009, this study thus investigates the attitudes and behavioral patterns of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and non-SOEs in China toward cash flow manipulation. From a point of departure of resource-dependence theory, we find that non-SOEs tend to manipulate cash flow upward, whereas SOEs are more prone to manipulate cash flow downward. We also demonstrate that non-SOEs are more inclined to manipulate their cash flow statements compared with SOEs. The reason behind this differing behavior could be that non-SOEs are reliant on cash and funds from entities, such as governments and banks, and thus, they falsely enhance cash flow and firm performance in order to signal their solvency and thereby reduce financing costs. By contrast, since SOEs always receive sufficient cash inflows from both government sources and state-owned banks, the managers of these firms are unconcerned about cash flow shortages, which lessens their motivation to manipulate the figures. Indeed, this study finds that these managers may even reduce reported cash flow intentionally in order to obtain government assistance. Therefore, investors and regulators should make their judgments on the cash flow of entities based on their status as SOEs or non-SOEs.
Financial Reporting and Disclosure Practices in China *

Abstract:We provide survey-based evidence on financial reporting and disclosure practices in China. We use the survey items used in prior studies based on U.S. CFOs (Graham et al., 2005; Dichev et al., 2013) as a benchmark to compare our results. We find some similarities between the U.S. and Chinese firms, but highlight some major differences in the perceptions on financial reporting and disclosure at Chinese firms. For example, Chinese firms do not consider analyst consensus forecasts as important earnings benchmarks, do not believe that voluntary disclosures reduce the cost of capital, and do not exhibit incentives to disclose bad news faster than good news. We provide additional evidence from follow-up questionnaires and on-site interviews that corroborate our main findings and explore the potential explanations. Taken together, our findings suggest that institutional differences at the country-level impose challenges on international studies that rely on theoretically-motivated empirical proxies or research questions from the U.S. setting.
