Abstract:The non-balanced discharge plasma has its unique effect on treatment of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), especially on treatment of low concentration in atmosphere. It summarizes such four means as electron beam, dielectric barrier discharge, pulse corona discharge and direct current corona discharge to decompose VOCs. Research development, advantages and disadvantages, structure of reactor and theory of decomposition on them have been introduced respectively. In the final, our work in this field is mentioned.

Abstract:Non-thermal plasma (NTP) is effective for degradation of aromatic molecules, achieving complete mineralization, however, is difficult. In contrast, thermal catalysis may be very effective toward achieving complete mineralization at high temperatures. Its drawbacks at a low processing temperature are undesirable intermediate byproducts production. By integrating dielectric barrier discharge with home-made Ag-MnOx catalyst, we have succeeded in achieving both VOCs complete decomposition and without toxic byproducts production. As an example, this paper reports toluene decomposition in air. The effects of the reaction temperature and the plasma specific energy density on the decomposition efficiency and byproducts formation are experimentally investigated. Very effective synergetic effect between the NTP and catalyst has been observed for VOCs decomposition.

Abstract:Waiting for treatment usually contributes to patients' psychological and financial problems. In this study we calculate and discuss the economic implications of these patients being on a waiting list for treatment. Our calculations show that the income lost in economic production is higher than the cost of treating patients with degenerative low back pain. This is mainly because these afflictions strike people of working age and render them invalids, whereas early adequate treatment usually allows the patients to take up their previous work.

Abstract:Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are some of the most common air pollutants emitted from commercial and industrial processes; VOCs may also reduce indoor air quality. Increased environmental awareness, however, has resulted in stringent regulations controlling VOCs emission and has motivated researchers to develop various kinds of treatment. Non-thermal plasma (NTP) processes are regarded as promising methods for VOCs abatement. This paper reviews the state of the art and achievements of NTP for VOCs abatement and includes a description of several reactor configurations based on different discharge principles. Of particular interest are NTP-catalytic systems, characterized by higher energy efficiencies and lower byproduct production than the NTP-alone systems. Physical–chemical effects of NTP-catalytic systems occurring during plasma catalytic processes are discussed. The NTP decomposition mechanisms for toluene, naphthalene and trichloroethylene are discussed in detail. Influences of various processing parameters are summarized, and comments are given based on removal efficiencies and operational costs.

Abstract:Recently, hazardous contamination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the environment is the current study area that has attracted more number of research scholars. To remove VOCs, non-thermal arc plasma fluidized bed is considered one of the best techniques. In this chapter, the research status of non-thermal arc plasma fluidized bed for the abatement of VOCs that polluted the gas flow is elucidated. Plasma fluidized bed is simple to construct and operate and does not produce any by-products. It manages the organic wastes with higher efficiency, processing especially for the low concentration winds. It is a promising technology and has broad application prospects.

Abstract:The single non-thermal plasma(NTP) technology has the disadvantages of poor decomposition effect and low energy efficiency in VOCs removal,and some toxic by-produced will produced during the decomposition process.So,the non-thermal plasma catalysis technology has received more and more concern as it can achieve higher decomposition rate and energy efficiency,better CO2 selectivity and reduce the unwanted byproducts.This paper discussed the reactor shape,the synergetic mechanisms of non-thermal plasma catalysis system,and also comprehensively introduced the current application status of single-stage and two-stage non-thermal plasma catalysis systems.Finally,it was point out that the non-thermal plasma catalysis technology has the perfect prospect in VOCs removal,while there are still lots of problems to solve to realize the real engineering application.

Abstract:Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are important sources of environmental pollution. Several commonly used techniques for the treatment of VOC are reviewed. Recovery techniques can be classified into absorption, adsorption, condensation and membrane separation. Destruction techniques include biodegradation, photocatalysis, low-temperature plasma and combustion. The basic principle, applicable conditions, advantages and disadvantages of the above technologies are discussed. By contrast, the rotational regenerative combustion method has a broad prospect. Suggestions on the improvement of rotary regenerative combustion technology are presented. The treatment of VOC requires comprehensive consideration of the advantages and disadvantages of various technologies.

Abstract:Simultaneous control of multi-pollutants emission from coal-fired flue gas is essential for environmental quality. Non-thermal plasma (NTP) technologies have made numerous successful applications of combined removal for sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrous oxide, particulate matter and mercury. Nitric oxide, elemental mercury can be oxidized in the gas phase, while fine particle gets agglomeration in the same NTP device. SO2 gets absorbed after heterogeneous oxidation by discharge. All the gaseous pollutants and aerosols generated will be further oxidized and captured in wet NTP device. Applications of NTP and typical configurations are also summarized.

Abstract:Abstract Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are an important component of air pollutants. As a new technology, low temperature plasma technology has the advantages of low cost, simple structure, and wide applicability in processing VOCs. It has attracted widespread attention from scholars at home and abroad in recent years. VOCs components in industrial flue gas are often very complex and the degree of degradation is different. Therefore, in the laboratory simulation, it is necessary to increase the components of simulated exhaust gas and develop a dielectric barrier plasma co-catalysis technology that can deal with multiple components. The removal rate of VOCs is positively related to the discharge voltage and energy density of the reactor. The higher the voltage, the higher the removal rate. But it is accompanied by the increase in the production of NOx, O 3 and other byproducts. The type of medium has a great influence on the removal effect of VOCs. The cooperative catalytic removal of VOCs by dielectric barrier plasma is a complex physico-chemical process, and the current research on the reaction mechanism is incomplete.

Abstract:Bio-effects of non-thermal plasma include lethality of microorganisms and stimulation of mammalian cells,which brings up a series of techniques in disinfection and clinical medicine.In this paper,the applications of non-thermal plasma in medical device sterilization,water and air cleaning,as well as food and package treatment are reviewed.Commercialized plasma sterilizer for medical devices can be classified into vacuum and atmospheric pressure,the volume of the former is much larger while the latter is more simple and easy to operate.For disinfection of water,air and food,it is not yet commercialized due to its energy consumption,efficiency or chemical residues.In the last decade,the developed plasma sources and techniques for medicine are successfully applied to treatment of decayed tooth,skin,wound,and cancer,with some of them approved for clinical practice.In the future,the research focus will be identifying the interactions between plasmas and cells,and developing more effective and practical equipment for different applications.

Abstract:This paper explores the application of corona plasma technology as a tool in treatment of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The review introduces the principle of corona discharge and describes the characteristics of plasma, especially of various corona plasma reactors. By summarizing the main features of such reactors, this paper provides a brief background to different power sources and reactor configurations and their application to VOC treatment design. Considering chlorinated compounds, benzene series and sulfur compounds, this paper reveals the probable mechanism of corona plasma in VOC degradation. Additionally, the effects of numerous technical parameters - such as reactor structure, shape and materials of electrodes, and humidity - are analyzed comprehensively. Product distribution, energy efficiency and economic benefits are invoked as factors to evaluate the performance of VOC degradation. Finally, the practical application of corona plasma and its advantages are briefly introduced. The review aims to illustrate the enormous potential of corona plasma technology in the treatment of VOCs, and identifies future directions. Implications: This paper comprehensively describes the principle, characteristics, research progress and engineering application examples of the degradation of volatile organics by corona discharge plasma, to provide a theoretical basis for the industrial application of this process.

Abstract:Non-thermal plasma (NTP) catalysis has attracted widespread attention in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Combining NTP with heterogeneous catalyst has been proved to reduce the formation of unwanted by-products and improve the energy efficiency of the process. The mechanisms of interaction with plasma and catalyst and VOCs oxidation in plasma catalysis are particularly hot research topic. This paper reviewed the mechanism of non-thermal plasma catalysis on volatile organic compounds removal. In the first part, the interaction between plasma and catalyst is disscussed. And the different catalysis systems and discharge types are presented in the second part. In the third part, attention is given to the influence of critical parameters on the removal processes. Finally, based on a large number of literatures, an extended review is presented detailly on the treatment of VOCs with plasma-catalysis system including the oxidation pathways. Moreover, future works of this promising technology are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, the research on NTP synergized with MOFs catalyst for VOCs removal is systematically described. The current research on NTP mainly focuses on catalyst design, and MOFs has attracted the attention of scholars as a novel catalytic material for catalytic oxidation of VOCs. This will inspire researchers to rationally design MOFs‐based nanocatalysts for the efficient elimination of VOCs. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emissions are a factor in a number of environmental issues. To reduce the associated negative consequences, it is crucial to develop efficient VOCs removal systems. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) co‐catalytic technology has become a popular research topic in this field as a result of its ability to reduce the activation energy of the reaction while simultaneously improving product selectivity. Despite the huge number of studies synthesising the use of metals and their oxide catalysts in the degradation of VOCs, metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and MOF derivatives are the subject of comparatively few studies in this area. This paper reviews the basic principles and technological progress of NTP co‐catalytic VOCs degradation, with a focus on the use of MOFs and their derivatives in plasma VOCs degradation, as well as the use of other non‐metallic carbon materials in plasma VOCs degradation. It highlights the potential future development direction of NTP catalytic synergistic treatment of VOCs by focusing on the optimization of catalytic synergism on the treatment impact. In the end, the challenges faced, the prospects, and our personal perspective on future research directions are also estimated and elucidated.

Abstract:With the continuous development of industry, the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) continues to increase, and the pollution problem becomes increasingly serious. For example, in industrial production processes such as papermaking and traditional Chinese medicine extraction, low-content and complex volatile organic compounds will be produced, which will affect the factory environment. This article introduces the development and research status of VOCs sampling and treatment technology in recent years, explains the advantages and disadvantages of adsorption method, absorption method, membrane separation method, catalytic combustion method, biodegradation method, and low-temperature plasma technology application, and looks forward to the future development trends in this field.

Abstract:The application of plasma in the field of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can be traced back to the 1990s and has gradually developed into an important research field. In this regard, this article primarily sorts and analyzes the literature on the “application of plasma in the field of VOCs” in the Web of Science core collection database from 1992 to 2021 and, subsequently, obtains important data and trends, including the annual number of articles published, country, institution analysis, and journal, as well as discipline analysis, etc. The results show that China is not only in a leading position in the field of research, but also has six top-ten research institutions. This field has more research results in engineering, chemistry, physics, and environmental disciplines. In addition, this article summarizes dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) and titanium-containing catalysts, which represent the discharge characteristics and type of catalyst highlighted through the hot keywords. This review will provide certain guidance for future, related research.
