Compound 1 was a pseutosesquiterpene and 2 was a polyunsaturated fatty acid ethylate. Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods.

Abstract:Two new sesquiterpenes, confertol (1) and nephalbidol (2), were isolated from the soft corals Sinularia conferta and Nephthea albida, respectively. Besides a known polyhydroxylated sterol, nephalsterol A (3) was also obtained from the soft coral Nephthea albida. Their chemical structures and relative configurations were determined by spectroscopic methods.

Abstract:A systematic examination of the Chinese soft coral Dendronephthya sp. resulted in the isolation and characterization of 18 new cembranoid diterpenes, namely, dendronpholides A-R (2-19), along with 11-episinulariolide and an enantiomer of sandensolide. Their structures were determined through extensive spectroscopic (IR, MS, 2D NMR) data analyses and by comparison with those reported in literature. The cytotoxicity of several compounds against human tumor cell lines was also evaluated.

Abstract:A detailed chemical study of the extract from the soft coral Stereonephthya bellissima resulted in the isolation and identification of seven new sesquiterpenoids, bellissinanes A-G (1-7), along with four new diterpenes (8-11). Bellissinane A (1) is the third reported nardosinane-type sesquiterpene bearing a 6/5/6 tricyclic system. Bellissinanes C and D (3, 4) contain a phenylethylamine fragment, which is relatively unusual in marine organisms. Bellissinanes E-G (5-7) belong to the rare class of nornardosinane sesquiterpenoids. Structurally uncommon octahydro-1H-indenyl-type and prenyleudesmane-type skeletons were characterized for herpetopanone B (8) and bellissimain A (9), respectively. Bellissinane E (5) exhibited in vivo angiogenesis-promoting activity.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpene named as daucucarotol (1). Its structure was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments, coupled with MS studies. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example for a natural eudesmane sesquiterpene with a hydroxymethyl group located at a methine carbon rather than a usual quaternary carbon in the two fused six-membered ringsystems.

Abstract:Two new sesquiterpenes; 8α,11-dihydroxy-β-cyperon ( 2 ), and 5- epi -7α-hydroxy-( +)-oplopanone ( 3 ), were isolated from the soft coral Litophyton arboreum, together with nine known ones, including five sesquiterpenes; 11-hydroxy-8-oxo-β-cyperon ( 1 ), alismoxide ( 4 ), 5β,8β-epidioxy-11-hydroxy-6-eudesmene ( 5 ), chabrolidione B ( 6 ), 7-oxo-tri-nor-eudesm-5-en-4β-ol ( 7 ), two sterols; 7β-acetoxy-24-methyl-cholesta-5,24(28)-diene-3β,19-diol ( 8 ), nebrosteroid M ( 9 ), and two glycerol derivatives; chimyl alcohol ( 10 ) and batyl alcohol ( 11 ). The structures of the isolated compounds were characterized using spectroscopic techniques, predominately HR-ESI–MS, 1D, 2D-NMR, and ECD analyses. Compounds 1 – 11 were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against three human cancer-cell lines (A549, MCF-7 and HepG2), and anti-leishmanial potential against the causal parasite, Leishmania major. Compounds 4 , 8 , and 9 exhibited potent cytotoxic activity against the A549 cell line (IC 50 = 17.0 ± 2.5, 13.5 ± 2.1, and 16.5 ± 1.3 μg/ml, respectively) as compared with the standard antitumor agent etoposide (IC 50 28.4 ± 4.5 μg/ml). In addition, compound 9 exhibited remarkable cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cell line (IC 50 = 24.7 ± 2.1 μg/ml: 22.2 ± 4.2 μg/mL for etoposide).

Abstract:Scopulariopsis sp. isolated from the Red Sea hard coral Stylophora sp. yielded two new triterpenoids (1-2) and a new naphthoquinone derivative (8) when cultured on white beans. In addition, fourteen known compounds including three triterpene analogues (3-5), two sesquiterpenoids (6-7), two polyketides (9-10) and seven nitrogenous compounds (11-17) were isolated. All structures were determined through extensive analysis of the NMR and MS data as well as by comparison with literature data. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic, antibacterial and antitubercular activities. However, none of them showed significant activity.

Abstract:Six new nardosinane-type sesquiterpenoids, clavukoellians A-F (1-6), together with one new neo-lemnane-type sesquiterpene, 4-O-deacetylparalemnolin D (7), were isolated from the marine soft coral Clavularia koellikeri. The structures of compounds 1-7 were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy, ECD analysis, and quantum chemical calculation methods. Compounds 1 and 7 demonstrated significant antiangiogenic activities in wound healing assays on HUVECs.

Abstract:A new guaiane-type sesquiterpene glycoside, torilolone 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with a known analogue compound, torilolone 11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), was isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, NMR spectroscopic analyses coupled with chemical degradation. Abstract:Seven new cembrane-type diterpenes, lobophytolins C–I (3–9), and one new prenylated-guiane-type diterpene, lobophytolin J (10), along with six known related ones (1, 2, 11–14), have been isolated from the soft coral Lobophytum sp. collected off the Xisha Island in the South China Sea. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and quantum mechanical (QM)-NMR methods. The absolute configuration of lobophytolin H (8) was determined by the application of the modified Mosher's method and chemical transformation. Lobophytolin D (4) exhibited promising cytotoxicities in in vitro bioassays against HT-29, Capan-1, A549, and SNU-398 human cancer cell lines with IC50 values of 4.52, 6.62, 5.17, and 6.15 μM, respectively.

Abstract:Further chemical investigation of the Xisha soft coral Litophyton nigrum has resulted in the isolation of four new nardosinane-type sesquiterpenoids, namely linardosinenes D–G (1–4). The structures of new compounds were elucidated by extensive analyses of their spectroscopic data and by comparison with the reported data of known related ones. All compounds exhibited weak inhibitory effect against bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4), a promising therapeutic target in various human diseases, at a concentration of 10 μM.

Abstract:Objective To find new compound from soft corals.Methods The chloroform portion of the soft coral Sinularia sp.was subjected to silica gel to give ceramide(Ⅰ).Results Structure of compound(Ⅰ) was identified as 2S,3S,4R-N-octadecanoyl-phytosphingosine on the bases of spectroscopic(IR,MS,NMR) and chemical analyses.Conclusion Compound(Ⅰ) was a new natural ceramide and its IR, NMR data were reported here for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To examine minor secondary metabolites from the soft coral Sinularia dissecta.Methods Column chromatography was used for separation and purification,while extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data were applied for structure elucidation.Results Four africane-type sesquiterpenoids were isolated,and their structures were determined as 9(S),10(R)-epoxyafricanane(1),8(9) africanen-10-one(2),9(S),15 dihydroxyafricanane(3),and 9(15) africanene(4).Conclusion 9(S),10(R)-epoxyafricanane(1) was determined as a new compound,while compound 2 was isolated from nature for the first time.

Abstract:A rare highly fused racemic merosesquiterpenoid, 9‐epi‐verrubenzospirolactone (1), six new asteriscane‐type sesquiterpenoids, sinuhumesins A−F (4−9), and two related known ones (10 and 11) were isolated from Hainan soft coral Sinularia humesi. Compound 1 was further separated by chiral HPLC resolution to one pair of enantiomers [(+)‐1 and (−)‐1], respectively. The full structures of the new compounds were unambiguously determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis, chemical computation approaches, modified Mosher's method and/or X‐ray diffraction analysis, as well as comparison with previously reported data of related model compounds.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:To investigate the eembranoid diterpenes from the soft coral Sarcophyton sp. collected in the South China Sea. Re-peatedly column chromatography was performed for the isolation and purification. The structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectral data (IR, MS, ID- and 2D-NMR) analysis by comparing with literature data. A new eembranoid diterpene namely sareophyolide A (1), together with 7a, 8β-dihydroxydeepoxysareophine (2) were isolated from this species. The cembra-noid diterpenes with γ-lactone could be chemotaxonomic markers ofSarcophyton sp.
