Abstract:In this paper, we show the following: the Hausdorff dimension of the spectrum of period-doubling Hamiltonian is bigger than logα/log 4, where α is the Golden number; there exists a dense uncountable subset of the spectrum such that for each energy in this set, the related trace orbit is unbounded, which is in contrast with a recent result of Carvalho (Nonlinearity 33, 2020); we give a complete characterization for the structure of gaps and the gap labelling of the spectrum. All of these results are consequences of an intrinsic coding of the spectrum we construct in this paper.

Abstract:We calculated the universal scaling function and the scaling factor as well as the convergence rate for periodtripling, -quadrapling and–quintupling sequences of and types. The superstable periods are closely connected to a set of polynomial defined recursively by the original mapping. Some notable properties of these polynomials are studied. Several approaches to solving the renormalization group equation and estimating the scaling factors are suggested.

Abstract:The Kohmoto-Kadanoff-Tang renormalisation-group method is extended to deal with the electronic properties of a class of one-dimensional quasiperiodic lattices. A unified trace map is obtained and it is shown that the energy spectra of the quasiperiodic lattices are Cantor-like, that is the spectra are self-similar and the energy gaps in the spectra are densely populated.

Abstract:We estimate the upper and lower L q -spectra of measures generated by a class of graph-directed planar non-conformal iterated function systems. These systems are composed of C 1 + ε contractions with lower triangular pointwise Jacobian. The estimation provides a criterion for the existence of the L q -spectra in certain case. As an application, we derive the box-counting dimension of planar self-affine sets generated by lower triangular matrices, whose geometric construction satisfies a finite overlapping type condition.

Abstract:In this note, we investigate the possibility of defining meaningful upper and lower quantization dimensions for a compactly supported Borel probability measure of order $r$, also for negative values of $r$. To this end, we utilize the concept of partition functions, which generalizes the idea of the $L^{q}$-spectrum and, in this way, naturally extends the work in [M. Kesseböhmer, A. Niemann, and S. Zhu. Quantization dimensions of probability measures via Rényi dimensions. $\textit{Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.}$ 376.7 (2023), 4661$\unicode{x2013}$4678]. In particular, we provide natural fractal geometric bounds as well as easily verifiable necessary conditions for the existence of the quantization dimensions. Exact asymptotics for the absolutely continuous case are also given.

Abstract:It was proved by Shen that the graph of the classical Weierstrass function Sigma(infinity)(n =0) lambda(n) cos(2 pi b(n)x) has Hausdorff dimension 2 + log lambda/log b, for every integer b >= 2 and every l is an element of(1/b, 1) [Hausdorff dimension of the graph of the classical Weierstrass functions, Math. Z., 289 (2018), 223-266]. In this paper, we prove that the dimension formula holds for every integer b >= 3 and every lambda is an element of(1/b, 1) if we replace the function cos by sin in the definition of Weierstrass function. A class of more general functions are also discussed.

Abstract:We apply the structure theory of finite dimensional algebras in order to deduce dimension formulas for spaces of period numbers, i.e., complex numbers defined by integrals of algebraic nature. We get a complete and conceptually clear answer in the case of $1$-periods, generalising classical results like Baker's theorem on the logarithms of algebraic numbers and partial results in Huber--W{ü}stholz \cite{huber-wuestholz}. The application to the case of Mixed Tate Motives (i.e., Multiple Zeta Values) recovers the dimension estimates of Deligne--Goncharov \cite{deligne-goncharov}.

For any tau > 2, denote W-tau (Q) (respectively W-tau) to be the set of tau well-approximable points by rationals with denominators in Q (respectively in N). We consider the Hausdorff dimension of the liminf set W-tau\W-tau (Q) after Adiceam. Abstract:We determine the Hausdorff dimension of sets of irrationals in $(0,1)$ whose partial quotients in semi-regular continued fractions obey certain restrictions and growth conditions. This result substantially generalizes that of the second author [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. {\bf 151} (2023), 3645--3653] and the solution of Hirst's conjecture [B.-W. Wang and J. Wu, Bull. London Math. Soc. {\bf 40} (2008), 18--22], both previously obtained for the regular continued fraction. To prove the result, we construct non-autonomous iterated function systems well-adapted to the given restrictions and growth conditions on partial quotients, estimate the associated pressure functions, and then apply Bowen's formula.

By using Poincaré-Birkhoff twist theorem, we prove that the given equation possesses infinitely many positive periodic solutions provided that g satisfies the singular condition and the time map related to autonomous system x ′′ + g ( x ) = 0 tends to zero.
Beyond Large Complex Structure: Quantized Periods and Boundary Data for One-Modulus Singularities

Abstract:We study periods in an integral basis near all possible singularities in one-dimensional complex structure moduli spaces of Calabi-Yau threefolds. Near large complex structure points these asymptotic periods are well understood in terms of the topological data of the mirror Calabi-Yau manifold. The aim of this work is to characterize the period data near other boundaries in moduli space such as conifold and K-points. Using results from Hodge theory, we provide the general form of these periods in a quantized three-cycle basis. Based on these periods we compute the prepotential and related physical couplings of the underlying supergravity theory. Moreover, we elucidate the meaning of the model-dependent coefficients that appear in these expressions: these can be identified with certain topological and arithmetic numbers associated to the singular geometry at the moduli space boundary. We illustrate our findings by studying a wide set of examples.

Abstract:Let $L_d$ be the Lattès map associated to the multiplication-by-$d$ endomorphism of an elliptic curve $E$ defined over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. We determine the density $\delta(L_d,q)$ of periodic points for $L_d$ in $\mathbb{P}^1(\mathbb{F}_q)$. We show that the periodic point densities $\delta(L_d,q^n)$ converge as $n \rightarrow \infty$ along certain arithmetic progressions, and compute simple explicit formulas for $\delta(L_\ell,q)$ when $\ell$ is a prime and $E$ belongs to a special family of supersingular elliptic curves.

Abstract:A bstract We study a class of quantum integrable systems derived from dimer graphs and also described by local toric Calabi-Yau geometries with higher genus mirror curves, generalizing some previous works on genus one mirror curves. We compute the spectra of the quantum systems both by standard perturbation method and by Bohr-Sommerfeld method with quantum periods as the phase volumes. In this way, we obtain some exact analytic results for the classical and quantum periods of the Calabi-Yau geometries. We also determine the differential operators of the quantum periods and compute the topological string free energy in Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) limit. The results agree with calculations from other methods such as the topological vertex.

Thin Spectra and Singular Continuous Spectral Measures for Limit-Periodic Jacobi Matrices

Abstract:This paper investigates the spectral properties of Jacobi matrices with limit-periodic coefficients. We show that for a residual set of such matrices, the spectrum is a Cantor set of zero Lebesgue measure, and the spectral measures are purely singular continuous. For a dense set of limit-periodic Jacobi matrices we can strengthen the result and show that the spectrum is a Cantor set of zero lower box counting dimension, and hence in particular of zero Hausdorff dimension, while still retaining the singular continuity of the spectral type. We also show how results of this nature can be established by fixing the off-diagonal coefficients and varying only the diagonal coefficients, and, in a more restricted version, by fixing the diagonal coefficients to be zero and varying only the off-diagonal coefficients. We apply these results to produce examples of weighted Laplacians on the multidimensional integer lattice having purely singular continuous spectral type and zero-dimensional spectrum.

Abstract:We determine the Taylor spectra of quotient tuples of the $d$-shift on Drury-Arveson spaces with finite-dimensional coefficient spaces. We show the the Taylor spectrum can be described in terms of the approximate zero set of the annihilator ideal, and in terms of the pointwise behavior of the inner multiplier associated with the quotient tuple.

Abstract:We regard the classic Thue–Morse diffraction measure as an equilibrium measure for a potential function with a logarithmic singularity over the doubling map. Our focus is on unusually fast scaling of the Birkhoff sums (superlinear) and of the local measure decay (superpolynomial). For several scaling functions, we show that points with this behavior are abundant in the sense of full Hausdorff dimension. At the fastest possible scaling, the corresponding rates reveal several remarkable phenomena. There is a gap between level sets for dyadic rationals and non-dyadic points, and beyond dyadic rationals, non-zero accumulation points occur only within intervals of positive length. The dependence between the smallest and the largest accumulation point also manifests itself in a non-trivial joint dimension spectrum.

On some combinatorial sequences associated to invariant theory

Abstract:We study the enumerative and analytic properties of some sequences constructed using tensor invariant theory. The octant sequences are constructed from the exceptional Lie group $G_2$ and the quadrant sequences from the special linear group $SL(3)$. In each case we show that the corresponding sequences are related by binomial transforms. The first three octant sequences and the first four quadrant sequences are listed in the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences (OEIS). These sequences all have interpretations as enumerating two-dimensional lattice walks but for the octant sequences the boundary conditions are unconventional. These sequences are all P-recursive and we give the corresponding recurrence relations. In all cases the associated differential operators are of third order and have the remarkable property that they can be solved to give closed formulae for the ordinary generating functions in terms of classical Gaussian hypergeometric functions. Moreover, we show that the octant sequences and the quadrant sequences are related by the branching rules for the inclusion of $SL(3)$ in $G_2$.
