Abstract:The estimability of quantized dynamic linear systems was discussed from information theoretic point of view. The presented definitions were reviewed and extended to more general systems. Criterions of estimability for systems with quantized outputs were proposed based on the measure of mutual information. These obtained condition of estimability consists with our intuition very well and provides us with intrinsic perspective for the quantizer design. Furthermore, the convergence property of the quantized estimability Gramian was analyzed. The mathematical analysis is verified by illustrative simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the fractal dimension of the graph of a fractal transformation and also determine the quantization dimension of a probability measure supported on the graph of the fractal transformation. Moreover, we estimate the quantization dimension of the invariant measures corresponding to a weighted iterated function system consisting of bi-Lipschitz mappings under the strong open set condition.

Abstract:In this note, we investigate the possibility of defining meaningful upper and lower quantization dimensions for a compactly supported Borel probability measure of order $r$, also for negative values of $r$. To this end, we utilize the concept of partition functions, which generalizes the idea of the $L^{q}$-spectrum and, in this way, naturally extends the work in [M. Kesseböhmer, A. Niemann, and S. Zhu. Quantization dimensions of probability measures via Rényi dimensions. $\textit{Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.}$ 376.7 (2023), 4661$\unicode{x2013}$4678]. In particular, we provide natural fractal geometric bounds as well as easily verifiable necessary conditions for the existence of the quantization dimensions. Exact asymptotics for the absolutely continuous case are also given.

On new fractal phenomena connected with infinite linear IFS

Abstract:We establish several new fractal and number theoretical phenomena connected with expansions which are generated by infinite linear iterated function systems. First of all we show that the systems $\Phi$ of cylinders of generalized Lüroth expansions are, generally speaking, not faithful for the Hausdorff dimension calculation. Using Yuval Peres' approach, we prove sufficient conditions for the non-faithfulness of such families of cylinders. On the other hand, rather general sufficient conditions for the faithfulness of such covering systems are also found. As a corollary of our main results, we obtain the non-faithfullness of the family of cylinders generated by the classical Lüroth expansion. Possible infinite entropy of the stochastic vector $Q_\infty$ which determines the metric relations for partitions of the generalized Lüroth expansions, possible non-faithfulness of the family $\Phi(Q_\infty)$ and the absence of general formulae for the calculation of the Hausdorff dimension even for probability measures with independent identically distributed symbols of generalized Lüroth expansions are all facts that do not allow to apply usual probabilistic methods, as well as methods of dynamical systems to study fractal properties of corresponding subsets of non-normal numbers. Despite of the above mentioned difficulties, we develop new approach to the study of subsets of $Q_\infty$-essentially non-normal numbers and prove (without any additional restrictions on the stochastic vector $Q_{\infty}$) that this set is superfractal. This result answers the open problem mentioned in \cite{AKNT2} and completes the metric, dimensional and topological classification of real numbers via the asymptotic behaviour of frequencies their digits in the generalized Lüroth expansion.

Quantization of Cantor-Like Set on the Real Projective Line

Abstract:In this article, an iterated function system (IFS) is considered on the real projective line $\mathbb{RP}^1$ so that the attractor is a Cantor-like set. Hausdorff dimension of this attractor is estimated. The existence of a probability measure associated with this IFS on $\mathbb{RP}^1$ is also demonstrated. It is shown that the $n$-th quantization error of order $r$ for the push-forward measure is a constant multiple of the $n$-th quantization error of order $r$ of the original measure. Finally, an upper bound for the $n$-th quantization error of order $2$ for this measure is provided.

Abstract:Constrained quantization for a Borel probability measure refers to the idea of estimating a given probability by a discrete probability with a finite number of supporting points lying on a specific set. The specific set is known as the constraint of the constrained quantization. A quantization without a constraint is known as an unconstrained quantization, which traditionally in the literature is known as quantization. Constrained quantization has recently been introduced by Pandey and Roychowdhury. In this paper, for a uniform distribution with support lying on a side of an equilateral triangle, and the constraint as the union of the other two sides, we obtain the optimal sets of $n$-points and the $n$th constrained quantization errors for all positive integers $n$. We also calculate the constrained quantization dimension and the constrained quantization coefficient.

Abstract:The quantization scheme in probability theory deals with finding a best approximation of a given probability distribution by a probability distribution that is supported on finitely many points. In this paper, first we state and prove a theorem, and then give a conjecture. We verify the conjecture by a few examples. Assuming that the conjecture is true, for a set of discrete distributions on the set of natural numbers we have calculated the optimal sets of $n$-means and the $n$th quantization errors for all positive integers $n$. In addition, the quantization dimension is also calculated.

Abstract:In this paper, we present the idea of conditional quantization for a Borel probability measure $P$ on a normed space $\mathbb R^k$. We introduce the concept of conditional quantization in both constrained and unconstrained scenarios, along with defining the conditional quantization errors, dimensions, and coefficients in each case. We then calculate these values for specific probability distributions. Additionally, we demonstrate that for a Borel probability measure, the lower and upper quantization dimensions and coefficients do not depend on the conditional set of the conditional quantization in both constrained and unconstrained quantization.

Abstract:We present a quantization scheme of an arbitrary measure space based on overcomplete families of states and generalizing the Klauder and the Berezin-Toeplitz approaches. This scheme could reveal itself as an efficient tool for quantizing physical systems for which more traditional methods like geometric quantization are uneasy to implement. The procedure is illustrated by (mostly two-dimensional) elementary examples in which the measure space is a $N$-element set and the unit interval. Spaces of states for the $N$-element set and the unit interval are the 2-dimensional euclidean $\R^2$ and hermitian $\C^2$ planes.

Abstract:In this article we define Berezin-type and Odzijewicz-type quantizations on compact smooth manifolds. The method is we embed the smooth manifold of real dimension $n$ into ${\mathbb C}P^n$ and induce the quantizations from there. The standard way by which reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces are defined on submanifolds gives a way to define the pullback coherent states. In Berezin-type quantization the Hilbert space of quantization is the pullback (by the embedding) of the Hilbert space of geometric quantization of ${\mathbb C}P^n$. In the Odzijewicz-type quantization one has to consider a tensor product of the geometric quantization line bundle with holomorphic $n$-forms. In the Berezin case, the operators that are quantized are those induced from the ambient space ${\mathbb C}P^n$. The Berezin-type quantization exhibited here is a generalization of an earlier work of the author and Ghosh. In both Berezin and Odzijewicz-type quantizations we first exhibit this quantization explicitly on ${\mathbb C}P^n$ and we induce the quantization on the smooth compact embedded manifold from ${\mathbb C}P^n$.

Abstract:Bucklew and Wise (1982) showed that the quantization dimension of an absolutely continuous probability measure on a given Euclidean space is constant and equals the Euclidean dimension of the space, and the quantization coefficient exists as a finite positive number. By giving different examples, in this paper, we have shown that the quantization coefficients for absolutely continuous probability measures defined on the same Euclidean space can be different. We have taken uniform distribution as a prototype of an absolutely continuous probability measure. In addition, we have also calculated the conditional optimal sets of $n$-points and the $n$th conditional quantization errors for the uniform distributions in constrained and unconstrained scenarios.

Abstract:We derive new variants of the quantitative Borel--Cantelli lemma and apply them to analysis of statistical properties for some dynamical systems. We consider intermittent maps of $(0,1]$ which have absolutely continuous invariant probability measures. In particular, we prove that every sequence of intervals with left endpoints uniformly separated from zero is the strong Borel--Cantelli sequence with respect to such map and invariant measure.

Abstract:We propose new weak error bounds and expansion in dimension one for optimal quantization-based cubature formula for different classes of functions, such that piecewise affine functions, Lipschitz convex functions or differentiable function with piecewise-defined locally Lipschitz or $\alpha$-Hölder derivatives. This new results rest on the local behaviors of optimal quantizers, the $L^r$-$L^s$ distribution mismatch problem and Zador's Theorem. This new expansion supports the definition of a Richardson-Romberg extrapolation yielding a better rate of convergence for the cubature formula. An extension of this expansion is then proposed in higher dimension for the first time. We then propose a novel variance reduction method for Monte Carlo estimators, based on one dimensional optimal quantizers.

Abstract:In this article, we establish the variational principle of the affinity exponent of Borel Anosov representations. We also establish such a principle of the Rauzy gasket. In Li-Pan-Xu, they obtain a dimension formula of the stationary measures on $\mathbb{P}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. Combined with our result, it allows us to study the Hausdorff dimension of limit sets of Anosov representations in $\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{R})$ and the Rauzy gasket. It yields the equality between the Hausdorff dimensions and the affinity exponents in both settings. In the appendix, we improve the numerical lower bound of the Hausdorff dimension of Rauzy gasket to $1.5$.

Abstract:Let $E\subset [0,1]$ be a set that supports a probability measure $\mu$ with the property that $|\widehat{\mu}(t)|\ll (\log |t|)^{-A}$ for some constant $A>2.$ Let $\mathcal{A}=(q_n)_{n\in \N}$ be a positive, real-valued, lacunary sequence. We present a quantitative inhomogeneous Khintchine-type theorem in which the points of interest are restricted to $E$ and the denominators of the shifted fractions are restricted to $\mathcal{A}.$ Our result improves and extends a previous result in this direction obtained by Pollington-Velani-Zafeiropoulos-Zorin (2022). We also show that the Dirichlet non-improvable set VS well-approximable set is of positive Fourier dimension.

Abstract:We introduce and study a notion of Borel order dimension for Borel quasi orders. It will be shown that this notion is closely related to the notion of Borel dichromatic number for simple directed graphs. We prove a dichotomy, which generalizes the ${\GGG}_{0}$-dichotomy, for the Borel dichromatic number of Borel simple directed graphs. By applying this dichotomy to Borel quasi orders, another dichotomy that characterizes the Borel quasi orders of uncountable Borel dimension is proved. We obtain further structural information about the Borel quasi orders of countable Borel dimension by showing that they are all Borel linearizable. We then investigate the locally countable Borel quasi orders in more detail, paying special attention to the Turing degrees, and produce models of set theory where the continuum is arbitrarily large and all locally countable Borel quasi orders are of Borel dimension less than the continuum. Combining our results here with earlier work shows that the Borel order dimension of the Turing degrees is usually strictly larger than its classical order dimension.
