Abstract:Supply chain Management (SCM) has assumed a significant role in firm's performance and has attracted serious research attention over the last few years. A literature review reveals a considerable spurt in research in theory and practice of SCM. Combining and informing on features of Supply Management and distribution Management. This integration has resulted in the concept of extended enterprise and the supply chain is now manifest as the collaborative supply chain across intercompany borders to maximize the value across the entire supply chain. A large number of research papers have been published in various journals in last two decades. In this paper an attempt is made to review the status of literature on Supply Chain Management. A literature classification scheme is proposed. A total of 588 articles from 13 refereed academic journals are classified into articles in five methodologies i.e. Exploratory, Normative, Methodology, Literature Review and Hypothesis testing. This literature review finds that exploratory type of research is mostly preferred it is expected that with the maturity of SCM the hypothesis testing method will pick up. The articles are further categorized in fifteen categories on the basis of content analysis. Based on this review, some possible research issues are identified

Abstract:Supply Chain Management has become crucial in company development and competition since the late 20th century. The article provides a transparent definition of Supply Chain Management by examining the body of literature. It also explores the current state of research in Supply Chain Management and identifies potential areas for future research in forthcoming articles. The article analyzes the influential research of Supply Chain Management using various criteria, including disciplines, journals, countries, and authors' keywords. The analysis was based on a dataset of 76,493 articles obtained from the Elsevier and Springer databases between 2012 and 2022. The results reveal predominant involvement in disciplines such as Environmental Science (13,288; 17.37%), Medicine & Public Health (10,396; 13.59%), and Business & Management (8,498; 11.11%). The terms "Sustainability," "Green Supply Chain Management," and "Sustainable Supply Chain Management" underscore the shift towards integrating environmental concerns within Supply Chain Management, reflecting its growing significance in bolstering both operational efficiency and sustainability. The Systematic Literature Review further identifies a rapid integration of information technology into Supply Chain Management, indicating a crucial pivot towards digital solutions in managing supply chains more effectively.

Abstract:Despite the growing interest in supply chain management (SCM), our understanding of the subject issue is still limited, largely due to inadequate attention being placed to theory building. To address this problem, this paper highlights some major weaknesses of the extant literature with respect to the conceptualization, operationalization, and modelling of SCM, identifies potential causes underlying these shortcomings, and gives some recommendations to improve theory development in this area. Specifically, it demonstrates that (1) the SCM construct has been perceived narrowly from the perspective of a particular traditional function of a firm; (2) the construct validity is threatened due to inadequate pre-operational explication of the content domain, among other operationalization problems; and (3) the dominant conceptual SCM models focus mainly on the practices-performance relationship, overlooking the context-practices relationship. A greater advance in theory development is possible if researchers adopt a process-based view of SCM, develop conceptual SCM models based on a context-practices-performance framework, and synthesize theories and research of SCM and those of related fields such as organization studies.

Abstract:The supply chain is a dynamic network to describe the entities, activities and their interrelations in the process of request, production and supply of commodities, which may be divided into internal and external supply chains. The modelling and management for external supply chain were reviewed. There are three modelling method, i.e. network design method, approximate method and method based on simulation. The basic decisions in supply chain management mainly contain decisions for location, production, inventory and transportation. The various procedures of the supply chain constitution were discussed. The information technology for supply chain management was presented. The development trends were also pointed out.

Abstract:Purpose To examine the state of logistics and supply chain management (SCM) research in the last five years from the standpoint of existing methodologies. The state of research is assessed by examining the research design, number of hypothesis testing, research methods, data analysis techniques, data sources, level of analysis and country of authors. Design/methodology/approach The review of SCM and logistics research is based on 442 papers published from 1999 to 2003 in the following three academic journals Journal of Business Logistics , International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management , and Supply Chain Management: An International Journal . Findings Major findings show that there is an increase in the direct observation methods like case studies. In general, the research is more interpretive in nature. Survey method is still holding the highest position. More advanced techniques are being used for data analysis in empirical studies and there has been an increase in hypothesis testing. The trend in survey research is moving from exploratory to model building and testing. Research limitations/implications The gaps identified in the review were: there are very few inter disciplinary studies; innovative application of secondary data is lacking, (c) research at inter organisation level is scanty; and the current state of research has failed to integrate all the firms in the value chain and treat them as a single entity. Originality/value The methodological review will provide increased understanding of the current state of research in the discipline.

Abstract:In order to address the perspectives of healthcare supply chain management, the current literature was reviewed comprehensively. Major managerial issues were identified and discussed, including healthcare supply chain performance, cost reduction, inventory management, bullwhip effect, quality and security, and supply chain innovation. Some research methods were also discussed. Value chain analysis is valuable to case studies. System dynamics models or other supply chain reference models are useful for systematic analysis. The study also indicates a potential of application of healthcare supply chain management in developing countries.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review the extant literature on empirical research in supply chain management (SCM). It provides a comprehensive assessment of research methodology of 619 empirical research articles on SCM published between 1994 and 2009. In total, 21 journals were short listed out of 115 journals for the purpose. Design/methodology/approach The paper reviewed a set of 619 empirical research articles in SCM research with respect to empirical research methodology and its related aspects, using the empirical research approach given by Flynn et al. The paper demonstrates the present status of empirical research in SCM. Findings It is concluded from the analysis of the results that empirical research in SCM is increasing at a faster rate than ever, with theory building more in focus than verification. On the other hand, SCM researchers seems to have left several aspects of empirical research unexplored, such as action research, significance of triangulation of data and longitudinal data collection. Other significant findings revealed that SCM research is very scanty in developing countries, the majority of research papers are written at firm level only and several industrial sectors such as construction, retail, and agriculture are still unexamined. Originality/value There have been a couple of literature reviews in SCM but none of them focused exclusively on empirical research methodology in SCM. Also the sample size with respect to the number of papers (619 papers), as well as number of journals (21 journals), is larger than ever considered for literature review in SCM. The papers spans a longer time period of 16 years (1994‐2009).

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review the extant literature on supply chain risk management (SCRM, including risk identification, assessment, treatment, and monitoring), developing a comprehensive definition and conceptual framework; to evaluate prior theory use; and to identify future research directions. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review of 354 articles (published 2000-2016) based on descriptive, thematic, and content analysis. Findings There has been a considerable focus on identifying risk types and proposing risk mitigation strategies. Research has emphasised organisational responses to supply chain risks and made only limited use of theory. Ten key future research directions are identified. Research limitations/implications A broad, contemporary understanding of SCRM is provided; and a new, comprehensive definition is presented covering the process, pathway, and objectives of SCRM, leading to a conceptual framework. The research agenda guides future work towards maturation of the discipline. Practical implications Managers are encouraged to adopt a holistic approach to SCRM. Guidance is provided on how to select appropriate risk treatment actions according to the probability and impact of a risk. Originality/value The first review to consider theory use in SCRM research and to use four SCRM stages to structure the review.

Abstract:Construction supply chain management is very important for the improvement of engineering perform-ance.It is one of the important topics in engineering management.Engineering system complexity makes some theories of manufacturing supply chain management not applicable to engineering practice.Firstly, the elements of supply chain theory are identified and analyzed in engineering practice.Secondly, the paper defines and iden-tifies the concept and connotation of construction supply chain.Then, differences and similarities between manu-facturing supply chain and construction supply chain are sorted out and summarized.Based on the above studies, the paper proposes out key elements should be concerned during construction supply chain management and prac-tice.It aims to provide a theoretical basis for improving construction supply chain management performance.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to carry out a critical assessment of empirical research content in supply chain management (SCM). The assessment involved 569 empirical research articles published in 21 selected journals between 1994 and 2008. Design/methodology/approach The methodology of critical assessment involved selection and classification of 569 empirical research articles in SCM. A systematic classification and a critical analysis is carried out so as to identify research gaps in content of SCM in empirical research, as well as to recommend directions for future research. Findings Critical analysis of selected articles led to conclusion that SCM content in empirical research is very much based on analysis of focal firms and most of the authors prefer to perform empirical studies for combination of various entities of analysis considering possible elements of exchange. Performance measurement is on the rise and will continue to be but should be used at higher levels of analysis as well. The principal component bodies of SCM need further development to stage SCM at maturity level. Overall, it is highlighted that there is still a need for better frameworks that can overcome the shortcomings in extant empirical research literature of SCM. Originality/value Many literature reviews that aim at critical examination of SCM literature are reported but none of them focused exclusively on content of empirical research in SCM. Another unique feature of this paper is that the sample size of articles with respect to number of papers (569 papers) as well as number of journals (21 journals) is larger then ever considered for literature review in SCM. The paper spans a longer time span of 15 years (1994‐2008) as well.
