Surgical Treatment of Mild Pectus Excavatum by Using Augmentation Mammaplasty with 15 Cases

Abstract:Objective To investigate the treatment outcomes for mild pectus excavatum by using augmentation mammaplasty. Methods From 2000/01-2008/01, 15 cases of pectus excavatum were admitted for treatment, aged from 18-35 years old. Bilateral transaxillary incision were performed with a length of 4cm to go behind the upper outer quadrant of pectoralis major muscle, which then exits through a fascial defect with blunt dissection of the breast dissector into sub-pectoral space and go beyond the preoperative marking in order to the facilitate the insertion of silicone breast implants. Results 15 cases of pectus excavatum underwent breast augmentation with satisfactory outcome. After 9 months follow-up, 15 patients were all satisfied with the good contour and there were no skin infection and necrosis. Conclusion The method by the use of breast mammaplasty for mild pectus excavatum had the following advantages: simple operation, minimal trauma and satisfactory effect.
