Abstract:Objective:To assess the clinical efficacy of Nuss procedure in correction of pectus excavatum. Methods:Between Apr.2008 and Oct.2010,we treated 35 patients with pectus excavatum by minimally invasive Nuss procedure assisted with thoracoscope.Of the 35 cases,19 were male and 6,female.The age ranged from 3 to 24,with an average of(12.23±5.7) years. Results:We successfully corrected the pectus excavatum for the total 35 patients. The operation time was from 60 to 120 min with an average of 70 min.Operative blood loss ranged from 3 to 15 ml,and hospital stay was 7 d on average(5 to 9 d).No pericardial or heart injury occurred during the procedure. One case of incision infection resulted in plate exposure was managed by conventional dressing change, one required secondary stitches due to failure of adhesive surgical dressing and another one case refused to recover due to plate rejection in 7 month of the surgery.Pneumothorax occurred in 3 cases in whom 2 were managed conservatively and 1 by puncture. One case with double plates implantation was found plate dislocation by follow-up in 1month of the operation. Conclusion:Nuss procedure appears safe and efficacious in correction of pectus excavatum in younger patients and has advantages of quick recovery and cosmetic results.
