Characteristics of microRNA and its application in toxicology

Abstract:MicroRNAs(miRNAs),a new classes of small non-coding RNA molecules,are single stranded RNAs,typically about 22 nucleotides in length,have been shown to play key roles in regulating cell growth,differentiation,development,metabolism,apoptosis and so on in mammal cells.They modulate gene expression by complementary-mediated binding to target mRNAs resulting in the repression of translation.It is shown that miRNAs might be involved in a variety of cancers and environmental related diseases,which will be much helpful in the toxicological studies.Therefore,miRNAs could be a category of potential biological markers.
