Abstract:Four novel isoquinoline alkaloids crispine B–E (2–5), along with a new natural isoquinoline alkaloid, crispine A (1), were isolated from Carduus crispus, and the structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. Crispine A and B are alkaloids with pyrrolo-[2,1-a]isoquinoline skeleton and crispine C–E are isoquinoline alkaloids with guanidinyl group. All compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity ad compound 2 showed certain cytotoxic activity against some human-cancer lines in vitro.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of Carduus crispus.METHOD:Using chromatographic methods to isolate compounds and using chemical and spectral methods to elucidate the structures of the isolated compounds.RESULT:Eight compounds were elucidated as beta-amyrin palmitate, taraxastery acetate, luteolin-7-O-alpha-L-rhamanopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranoside, luteolin-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, triacontanic acid, beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol and stigmast-7-en-3 beta-ol.CONCLUSION:All the compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.

Ling led to the isolation of three new compounds curcuminol F (1) curcuminol G (2) and wenyujinoside (3) and a known compound aurantiamide (4). Abstract:A new secoiridoid named chinensisol (1) along with twenty known compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of Cortex fraxini. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR, MS, IR and UV spectral evidences. The quinone reductase (QR) inducing activities of the compounds were evaluated and the results showed that compounds 1, 9 and 14 had moderate QR inducing activities with CD values (concentration required to double the specific activity of QR) of 72.4 ± 7.7, 34.3 ± 3.3 and 42.0 ± 0.4 μM respectively.

Abstract:Fourteen compounds were isolated from wholeplants of Carduus acanthoides by various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over HP-20 macroporous resin, MCI gel, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS and reversed-phase HPLC. Their structures were identified as salidroside (1), 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-ethyl-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), 3,5-di-hydroxyphenethyl alcohol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), p-coumaric acid (4), 3-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) propan-1-one (5), 3-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl) propan-1-one (6), syringin (7), p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (8), salicylic acid (9), tachioside (10), vanillic acid-4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (11), syringic aldehyde (12), 2,6-dimethoxy-4-hydroxyphenol-1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (13), and 2, 6-dimethoxy-p-hydroquinone-4-0-P-D-glucopyranoside (14) on the basis of spectroscopic data analysiS. All compounds were isolated from the genus Carduus for the first time except for compounds 4 and 7.

Abstract:Five new pyridone alkaloids Citridones H-L (1-5) along with one new natural product ent-Citridone A (6) were isolated from the marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp. XZD3-3, which came from the gut of a marine shrimp. The structures and absolute configurations of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of NMR, HRESIMS, UV, modified Mosher's method, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and ECD calculation. Compounds 1 and 3 contained unprecedented polycyclic systems of phenyl-pyranopyridone and phenyl-spiro[cyclopentene-furopyridone], respectively. Compound 2 showed moderate inhibition activity against nitric oxide production with IC50 value of 52.5 mu M. All tested compounds were inactive in neither antibacterial nor cytotoxicity assays. Abstract:Nine undescribed carbazole and quinoline alkaloids, named dunnines A-E, and 14 known analogues were isolated from the leaves and stems of Clausena dunniana. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of comprehensive analysis of NMR and HRMS spectroscopic data, and the absolute configurations were assigned via comparison of their specific rotations and calculated and experimental ECD data. (+/-)-Dunnines A-C and (+/-)-clausenawalline A are four pairs of biscarbazole atropisomers and (+/-)-dunnine D is a pair of dihydropyranocarbazole enantiomers. They were separated by chiral HPLC to obtain the optically pure compounds. Three compounds showed weak inhibitory effects on nitric oxide production stimulated by lipopolysaccharide in BV-2 microglial cells (IC50 > 50 mu M); five compounds could significantly promote insulin secretion in HIT-T15 cell line (1.9-3.1-fold of the control, p < 0.01) at 40 mu M, and nine compounds could inhibit the apoptosis of PC12 cell induced by 6-hydroxydopamine with IC50 values in the range of 10.9-47.2 mu M. Abstract:Two new quinoline alkaloids ( 1 – 2 ) together with twenty-two known alkaloids ( 3 – 24 ) were isolated and identified from Dictamnus dasycarpus Turcz. Compounds 6 – 7 , 9 , 11 , 15 – 16 , 19 and 24 were isolated from D. dasycarpus for the first time. The structures of all compounds were characterised by spectroscopic methods (1D, 2D NMR and HRESIMS). The anti-proliferative activity was mediated by the arrest of three human cancer cell lines (SW982, HepG2 and A549) of all the compounds that were evaluated by CCK-8 assay.

Abstract:Novel sesquiterpene, named crossostephin ( 1), and coumarin, named biscopoletin ( 2), together with four known compounds, artesin, tanacetin, scopoletin, and scopolin, were isolated from the 70% ethanolic extract of the whole herbs of Crossostephium chinense ( L.) Makino. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, including IR, UV, EIMS, HRFTICRMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectral analyses. Both scopoletin and scopolin were isolated from the title plant for the first time.
