Abstract:Objective To compare the short-term effects of different surgeries(arthroscopic total and partial meniscectomy) in treatment of meniscus lesions. Methods 374 knees with the meniscus lesion(without intraarticular ligament injury) underwent arthroscopic total or partial meniscectomy. The arthroscopic total meniscectomy group(ATM group) included 161 knees; The arthroscopic partial meniscectomy group(APM group) included 213 knees.Lysholm score system was applied and the scores of anti-and post-operation and of two groups were compared. Results The period of follow-up ranged from 10 to 40 months(mean 28.2 months). The Lysholm scores increased from 59.3±16.3 and 57.2±18.0 anti-operatively to 92.9±11.1 and 93.7±7.7 post-operatively.The statistic difference was significant(P<0.01),and the excellent and good rate of the post-operative function were 96.27% and 98.59%,respectively.There was no significant statistic differentia of the Lysholm scores, both anti-and post-operative,existing between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions Arthroscopic surgery is a safe and effective treatment to the meniscus lesion, and there is no difference in short-term effects between arthroscopic total and partial meniscectomy.
