Abstract:After establishing a relation between the Hill's equations and the Emarkov-Pinney equations, we are able to use degree theory to remove a technical assumption in [14], and give a complete set of non-resonance conditions for differential equations with repulsive singularities.

Abstract:In this paper, we study positive periodic solutions to the repulsive singular perturbations of the Hill equations. It is proved that such a perturbation problem has at least two positive periodic solutions when the anti-maximum principle holds for the Hill operator and the perturbation is superlinear at infinity. The proof relies on a nonlinear alternative of Leray–Schauder type and on Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem on compression and expansion of cones.

Abstract:Using the relation between the Hill's equations and the Ermakov-Pinney equations established by Zhang [ ], we will give some interesting lower bounds of rotation numbers of Hill's equations. Based on the Birkhoff normal forms and the Moser twist theorem, we will prove that two classes of nonlinear, scalar, time-periodic, Newtonian equations will have twist periodic solutions, one class being regular and another class being singular.

Abstract:We construct two explicit examples of Hill’s equations with complex-valued potentials such that the algebraic multiplicity of some (anti)periodic eigenvalue E E equals 1 + 2 p i 1+2p_{i} with p i ≥ 1 p_{i}\geq 1 , where p i p_{i} denotes the immovable part of E E as a Dirichlet eigenvalue. These examples confirm a phenomena about Hill’s equations in (Gesztesy and Weikard, Acta Math. 176 (1996), 73–107).

Abstract:In this paper we will use the coincidence degree to give an existence result of periodic solutions for the scalar Liénard equations with singular forces of repulsive type. The main result of this paper clearly describes what balance conditions between the singular force at the singularity and at the infinity should be imposed if the equation has a periodic solution. As an application, we will improve the results of Ding, Ye, and Wang for the Brillouin electron beam focusing system.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the rotation number approach to study in detail the charac- teristic values of Hill's equations with two-step periodic potentials. As a result, the global structure of resonance pockets is described completely. The results in this paper show that resonance pockets behave in a sensible and fairly rich way even in this simplest case.

Abstract:We apply Kovacic's algorithm from differential Galois theory to show that all complex non-oscillatory solutions (finite exponential of convergence of zeros) of certain Hill equations considered by Bank and Laine using Nevanlinna theory must be Liouvillian solutions. That is, solutions are obtainable by suitable differential field extensions construction. In particular, we have established a full correspondence between solutions of non-oscillatory type and Liouvillian solutions for a particular Hill equation. Explicit closed-form solutions are obtained via both methods for this Hill equation whose potential has four exponential functions in the Bank-Laine theory. The differential equation is a periodic form of biconfluent Heun equation. We further show that these Liouvillian solutions exhibit novel single and double orthogonality and a Fredholm integral equation over suitable integration regions in $\mathbf{C}$ that mimic single/double orthogonality for the corresponding Liouvillian solutions of the Lamé and Whittaker-Hill equations, discovered by Whittaker and Ince almost a century ago.

Abstract:In this paper we will use the Fourier expansions to generalize Hale′s alternative results for the existence of periodic solutions of linear retarded functional differential equations to neutral equations. Using some a priori estimation and the Leray-Schauder degree theory, we will obtain some existence theorems of periodic solutions for a class of quasilinear neutral equations. Abstract:We prove the existence of periodic solutions in a class of nonlinear partial differential equations, including the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the nonlinear wave equation, and the nonlinear beam equation, in higher dimension. Our result covers cases of completely resonant equations, where the bifurcation equation is infinite-dimensional, such as the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with zero mass, for which solutions which at leading order are wave packets are shown to exist.

Abstract:We construct stable periodic solutions for a simple form nonlinear delay differential equation (DDE) with a periodic coefficient. The equation involves one underlying nonlinearity with the multiplicative periodic coefficient. The well-known idea of reduction to interval maps is used in the case under consideration, when both the defining nonlinearity and the periodic coefficient are piece-wise constant functions. The stable periodic dynamics persist under a smoothing procedure in a small neighborhood of the discontinuity set. This work continues the research in recent paper [7] on stable periodic solutions of differential delay equations with periodic coefficients.

Abstract:In this paper, a relationship between the periodic and the Dirichlet boundary value problems for second-order ordinary differential equations with singularities is established. This relationship may be useful in explaining the difference between the nonresonance of singular and nonsingular differential equations. Using this relationship, we give in this paper an existence result of positive periodic solutions to singular differential equations when the singular forces satisfy some strong force condition at the singularity 0 and some linear growth condition at infinity.

Abstract:We establish the Hyers-Ulam stability of a second-order linear Hill-type $h$-difference equation with a periodic coefficient. Using results from first-order $h$-difference equations with periodic coefficient of arbitrary order, both homogeneous and non-homogeneous, we also establish a Hyers-Ulam stability constant. Several interesting examples are provided. As a powerful application, we use the main result to prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of a certain third-order $h$-difference equation with periodic coefficients of one form.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a kind of higher-order neutral equation with distributed delay and variable parameter: ( x ( t ) − p ( t ) x ( t − σ ) ) ( n ) + f ( x ( t ) ) x ′ ( t ) + g ( ∫ − r 0 x ( t + s ) d α ( s ) ) = q ( t ) . By using the classical coincidence degree theory of Mawhin, sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions are established. Recent results in the literature are generalized and significantly improved. Furthermore, two examples are given to illustrate that the results are almost sharp.

Abstract:We consider a second-order equation of Duffing type. Bounds for the derivative of the restoring force are given which ensure the existence and uniqueness of a periodic solution. Furthermore, the unique periodic solution is asymptotically stable with sharp rate of exponential decay. In particular, for a restoring term independent of the variable $t$, a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained which guarantees the existence and uniqueness of a periodic solution that is stable.
