Abstract:By interpreting main research aspects,contradictions and dilemmas,and future reform of rural land system,this paper makes an outlook for the follow-up studies in the process of urbanization.Results show that domestic and foreign scholars have made many achievements by deep discussions on rural land system,but there are still shortcomings.There are many contradictions in the process of urbanization such as contradiction between urbanization and arable land,contradiction between peasant migration and the fixed location of homestead,etc.The imperfections of property rights and highlights of land fragmentation phenomenon are the main dilemmas.In the future,agricultural land property system should be improved,a unified land market is supposed to be established and homestead system should be innovated to effectively safeguard farmers' rights and interests.

Abstract:there are many papers studying on the employment differences between urban and migrant workers,the general view is that the informal employment is the mark of the migrant workers’disadvantage in employment.This conclusion ignores the difference of the urban and migrant workers under the same background of employment market.This paper,using the random effect model of panel data,analyzed the differences between urban and migrant workers in the labor market selection and the wage mechanism under the same background of market.The results indicate migrant workers not only more fill the informal post,but also their employment is far worse than urban workers even in the same market background(informal market).Thus,informal employment is not all performance of migrant workers’disadvantages in employment;the labor market segmentation(informal employment as a key word) is also not all system root of their disadvantage in employment.In other words,even broken the labor market segmentation,urban rural difference in employment will not disappear.

Abstract:The Urban-Rural Segmentation leads to the negative economic efficiency.This paper designed an index measuring the Urban-Rural Segmentation,and used Zhejiang's data of China Urban-Household Surveys to measure the degrees of Urban-Rural Segmentation.The results show that,from the income point of view,the segmentation degree of relatively good sub-markets is higher than that of comparatively bad sub-markets and,from the employment opportunities point of view,the segmentation degree of relatively good sub-markets is lower than that of comparatively bad sub-markets.So the government should pay more attention to the problem of equal pay for equal work in bad sub-markets and implement the public policy to solve the unequal issue of employment opportunities in good sub-markets with different Hukou status.
Why the land ownership cannot produce high income to China's farmers

Abstract:In China, the urban land belongs to the state but the rural land belongs to the rural collectives. However, the urban land has brought considerable property income to urban residents, while rural land has not given the farmers corresponding earnings. Based on the comparison analysis of residents' property income since 2000 in China, this study shows that there is great disparity between urban and rural residents in property income. Moreover, the property income of rural residents was excessively low. Therefore, it is very significant to increase farmers' property income. It's one of the essential conditions for establishing harmonious society to reduce the income gap between the city and countryside. The case study of Liandu district of Lishui city in Zhejiang revealed that the source of farmers' property income was limited because of existing rural land property rights system, which is in urgent need of reform. Finally, in order to improve farmer's property income, the paper proposes that the rural land system's reform should be conducted from the aspects of clarifying collective land ownership, improving land expropriation compensatory system, speeding up the circulation of land contractual management right and innovating homestead management system.

Abstract:In the developing process of social economy, there must be a close relationship between the changes of resource and structure of the rural people's income and the development of the income inequality between the rural and the urban, especially in some typical areas with the problems concerned. This paper is a tentative research on this relationship based on the analysis of rural-urban income inequality in Zhejiang Province from the point of view of the residents' income resource. Index of GE and its factors decomposition method are popular in the research of income inequality, especially in the research of rural-urban income inequality. This paper first uses the GE region decomposition method to analyze different regions' income inequality and their development in Zhejiang Province. Then it uses the factors decomposition method to analyze different income resources' contribution on the rural-urban income inequality and the contribution's change in the sample time series. Finally, it explains the rural-urban income inequality in Zhejiang Province in view of the income structure. The result of the GE calculation indicates that the total income inequality and the rural-urban income inequality have been increasing since 1990's. Furthermore, the results of factors decomposition of the rural-urban inequality indicate: wage income increases rural-urban income inequality because wage income is the main income for urban residents; family management income is different with wage income, which means that it decreases the rural-urban income inequality, because family management income is the main income for the rural residents; because of the dualistic structure between the rural and the urban and the discriminating institution of income redistribution, the transfer income's contribution to rural-urban income inequality is obviously increasing the rural-urban income inequality; property income's contribution of rural-urban income inequality is not very clear because of its low proportion, but it basically increases the rural-urban income inequality.

Abstract:According to the data of more than 20 years since the reform and opening up,this paper makes a comparison and empirical analysis of the difference in consumption characteristics between urban and rural residents,based on the analysis of changes in urban and rural consumption level from the perspective of the possession level of consumption goods and the change of consumption structure.The finding is that in China there is a significant relationship between consumption expenditure of urban and rural residents with their current income,while there are significant differences in the consumption level and consumption structure between urban and rural residents,which is in increasing growth along with the advancement of urban reform.Thus dualistic structure is still a basic characteristic in China's consumption structure.The paper also discusses the factors leading to the difference between urban and rural consumption and puts forward the corresponding policy and suggestions to narrow their gap.

Abstract:Purpose – This paper aims to investigate the effect of rural-urban income gap on agricultural growth in China and its dynamics over time and across regions since reform and opening up. Design/methodology/approach – Two types of indices are constructed to measure the rural-urban income gap: the intra-provincial index and the inter-provincial index. A provincial panel data from 1978 to 2010 and growth accounting method are used to estimate the size of the adverse effect of rural-urban income gap on agricultural growth in China. Findings – The empirical results show that both indices of rural-urban income gaps are negatively associated with agriculture output, but the inter-provincial rural-urban income gap produces a larger adverse effect than the intra-provincial rural-urban income gap. Growth accounting analysis further shows that such adverse effects are decreasing over time and are larger in the central provinces. The results represent resource diversion effects of rural-urban income gap on agriculture. Originality/value – This paper bridges the gap in existing literature on the relationship between sectoral income gaps and agricultural growth, which confirms Schultz's argument that agricultural activities are efficient even in developing countries and the rural resources diverted out by income gap are not surplus. The results imply that equalized rural-urban and regional policies are required to maintain sustainable agricultural growth in China.

Abstract:This article used non-equilibrium development strategy to set up a theory frame of analyzing the cause of urban-rural income gap in China.Then,the panel data models were developed on the basis of provincial data from 2005 to 2008,to analyze empirically the impact of the policy leaning to the urban to the income gap,including the finance policy leaning to the urban,employing policy leaning to the urban,trading policy leaning to the rural,social security policy leaning to the urban and the public goods offering policy leaning to the urban.The result indicates: the series of the policies leaning to the city is the root of the urban-rural income gap,reforming the household register system,breaking the duality system,and balancing the development of the rural and the urban,is the base of reducing the urban-rural income gap in China.

Abstract:The income gap between urban and rural areas is an important manifestation of the gap between urban and rural areas. A smaller income gap between urban and rural areas means a faster process of urbanization. And otherwise it's a slower one. The income gap between urban and rural areas in China is seriously a big problem. According to ILO statistics, urban-rural income ratio in most countries is less than 1.6, with the exception that only three countries' urban-rural income ratio exceed 2, including China. Therefore, it becomes imperative for China to narrow the income gap. This paper analyzes the current situation and characteristics of China's urban-rural income gap.Using provincial panel data from 1996 to 2011 in our country, this paper examines factors affecting the income gap between urban and rural areas and contends that factors affecting the income gap between urban and rural areas are mainly the level of economic development, the proportion of state-owned economy, the degree of local government intervention, the proportion of agricultural expenditure in local revenue as well as urbanization level and so on. Based on the empirical results, this paper provides policy approaches to narrow the gap.

Abstract:In this paper,the results of double decomposition of China's urban and rural incomes show that,the income gap between urban and rural residents has become the major factor in the imbalance between them,and urban and rural residents have different dependence on the composition of income,rural residents have over-reliance on labor income,transfer income is contributing more to urban residents. The source of urban-rural income inequality is the long-standing urban-bias as the characteristics of the urban and rural development policies. To increase the human capital of farmers and to provide equal employment opportunities and distribution opportunities are the feasible path to improve the farmers' income structure and to raise income levels.

Abstract:Based on plenty of field work and relevant theoretic analysis,this paper unveils and summarizes the developmental characteristics and the driving forces of the urban-rural fringe of Haidian District.The conclusion is the same with other urban-rural fringes in Beijing and in other large cities of China.Results show that the composition of residents in the urban-rural fringe of Haidian District is very complicated.Many people have no steady job and income,and their social welfare is also at a lower level.The size of floating population is almost equal to that of domicile population,and most of them live in the villages and towns of Haidian District.The manner of living and working of floating population has great effect on the development of urban-rural fringe.The proportion of green land in urban-rural fringe is much higher,and the compensation of taking up green land and the development right in green belt has not been resolved very well.The village-owned land is nearly half of the total area.The scarcity of reasonable criterion on land expropriation,development and management results in heavy conflicts.The traditional rural economy and low purchasing power of people impedes the improvement of industry of urban-rural fringe.There are many new industry parks in urban-rural fringe,but because of the great discrepancy between high-tech industry and traditional industry,they can not match very well.It is difficult for high-tech industry to bring into play it diffuse effect.There are more investors and managers of infrastructure than one in urban-rural fringe,and their capabilities are different.To be worse,the responsibilities of building infrastructure among different investors and managers are intersectant.All of these bring up a dirty,disorder,bad and dangerous urban-rural fringe.Special location,complicated background and weak system,planning and policy are main factors that influence the development of the urban-rural fringe.

Abstract:Rural-urban fringe is an important part of urban and regional spatial structure in China.Zone location of rural-urban fringe,together with multi-functionality of agriculture,gives agriculture in rural-urban fringe distinct and diversified regional functions.Both production function and service function of agriculture in rural-urban fringe has made great contribution to urban and rural development,which is also helpful to overcome difficulties growing out of urbanization.This paper constructs an index system to calculate the execution of regional function of agriculture in rural-urban fringe.The result of Beijing case shows that in the last 10 years,the calculations fluctuate markedly,with an iterative process of decline-rally-decline.Specifically,indexes such as agricultural labor productivity and farmer income,which were obviously affected by macro-economic growth.At the same time,ecological construction has achieved great results.However,the functions of production and supply of agricultural production,the satisfaction of the consumer demand of leisure and recreation,and the contribution of expanding employment are relatively week.Moreover,the combination of agriculture in ruralurban fringe and modem urban industries does not consistent with the realistic demand.In the developing process of rural-urban fringe,economic benefits have usually been overemphasized and others neglected.Moreover,the deficiency of scientific planning,and the weakness of operation innovation of agriculture exacerbates the reduction of regional function of agriculture in rural-urban fringe.In Western countries,world cities have extensive agricultural spaces to promote ecological management and sustainable development,although industrial increase and urban sprawl needs a large amount of lands.In China,however,complete urbanization is still the coincident selection of most of cities in the process of rebuilding rural-urban fringe.Under the background of new-type urbanization,regional function of agriculture in rural-urban fringe should be enhanced.
The Structure of Supporting Agriculture in Finance and the Income Gap between Urban and Rural Residents- Based on the Perspective of Balancing Urban and Rural Development

Abstract:We analyze the relationship between the structure of supporting agriculture in finance and the income gap between urban and rural residents in China from 1978 to 2006, and draw the following conclusions: First, the expenditure of relieving farmers, the expenditure of agricultural basic infrastructure and the expenditure of agricultural science and technology can reduce the income gap between urban and rural residents in the long run. Second, the expenditure of agricultural science and technology and the expenditure of relieving farmers can reduce the income gap between urban and rural residents in short term. Third, the income gap between urban and rural residents exists strong inertia, which suggests we must pay great attention to it, avoiding its deterioration. Our conclusions are helpful for scientific and rational allocation of the limited financial resources under the new rural construction

Abstract:At present, there is a significant difference between urban and rural education in China, which is not only reflected in the quality of education but also family education, education concept, family capital, allocation and utilization of educational resources, etc. Under the influence of various factors, the current situation of rural education is not optimistic, and the difference between rural education and urban education is even increasing. In addition to effectively promoting the development of rural education, achieving a balanced development of education and narrowing the gap in regional education is also conducive to achieving educational equity and harmonious development of education in the whole society. Starting from the current situation of the urban-rural education gap in China, this paper examines the impact of the urban-rural economic, cultural and policy gap, and proposes specific measures to reduce the gap. These include balancing the input of urban and rural education, enhancing rural education resources with the aid of information technology, and enacting government policies that support rural education.

Abstract:<p>The rural urban income gap in China ranks as one of the largest in the world. This imbalanced rural urban relationship and the associated socioeconomic disparity have caused a weak and inefficient resource allocation, harmed the country's long-term economic development, and led to scores of socioeconomic problems. Concurrent with the widening rural urban income gap, China has been transformed by rapid urbanization. However, to date, there is limited understanding of the links between urbanization forces and this rural urban income disparity. This study uses the dynamic panel data model to investigate the influence of both economic and institutional urbanization forces and other socioeconomic factors on China's rural urban income disparity. Our results show that two economic urbanization factors—rural productivity and urban productivity—have contrasting effects on this income disparity. While rural productivity can significantly narrow the rural urban income disparity, urban productivity can positively contribute to widening the rural urban income disparity. We also find that the <em>hukou</em> openness policy negatively affects the rural urban income disparity with a one-year lag. Finally, consistent with the Kuznets theory, per capita GDP and urban population size both negatively correlate with the rural urban income disparity. Our findings provide insights into why rapid urbanization and the widening of the rural urban income gap coexist in China. Moreover, our results provide clear policy implications on how to mitigate the disparity. The most compelling suggestion is that sustainable agricultural productivity improvement is critical to achieving the goal of mitigating the income gap between rural and urban areas.</p>
