The Degree and Characteristics of Urban-Rural Segmentation in Urban Labor Market:Evidences from Zhejiang Province

Abstract:The Urban-Rural Segmentation leads to the negative economic efficiency.This paper designed an index measuring the Urban-Rural Segmentation,and used Zhejiang's data of China Urban-Household Surveys to measure the degrees of Urban-Rural Segmentation.The results show that,from the income point of view,the segmentation degree of relatively good sub-markets is higher than that of comparatively bad sub-markets and,from the employment opportunities point of view,the segmentation degree of relatively good sub-markets is lower than that of comparatively bad sub-markets.So the government should pay more attention to the problem of equal pay for equal work in bad sub-markets and implement the public policy to solve the unequal issue of employment opportunities in good sub-markets with different Hukou status.
