Abstract:With the fast development of China, today's medical students in China are very diverse in education backgrounds, experiences, culture, and learning styles. There are four major sensory modes of learning: visual (V), auditory (A), reading-writing (R), or kinesthetic (K). To determine whether a particular teaching method might satisfy the requirement of students, a learning preference survey with the VARK questionnaire was given to our second-year medical students of Zhejiang University City College School of Medicine. As a result, 98 of 133 students (74 %) returned the completed questionnaire. Only 14.3 % of the students preferred a single mode of information presentation. In contrast, most students (85.7 %) preferred multiple modes of information presentation. The current result suggests that medical instructors in China should be aware of the student's individual preferences in order to make the educational experience more productive and enjoyable. ? Abstract:This study investigates the relationship between teaching style and learning effectiveness and further examines the mediating effect of learning motivation in the relationship between teaching style and learning effectiveness. This study adopted the undergraduate students of University A in China as the research sample and conducted a quantitative survey to test the hypothetical relationship between these variables. The results showed that (i) the teacher-centered teaching style significantly negatively affected professional knowledge. (ii) the student-centered and the eclectic-centered teaching styles significantly positively affected professional knowledge and comprehensive ability, respectively. In addition, the hierarchical regression technique was used to examine the mediating effect of learning motivation. The findings revealed that (iii) intrinsic learning motivation had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between teaching style (student-centered and eclectic-centered teaching style) and learning effectiveness (professional knowledge and comprehensive ability). (iv) extrinsic motivation partially mediates the relationship between student-centered teaching style and learning effectiveness (professional knowledge and comprehensive ability).
The Influence of Learning Styles on Perception and Preference of Learning Spaces in the University Campus

Abstract:Good academic performance will occur when learning spaces match or support individual preference and needs. This effect depends on environmental characteristics and individual attributes. Learning styles (LSs) have been used as a tool to capture the behavioral and psychological characteristics of learners in the process of learning activities, which provide instructions to address their learning needs. However, few have focused on the perceptual characteristics of learning space from the view of distinct learning styles. The research aims to identify which kinds of learning spaces in university campus have been preferred by students with different learning styles respectively and the spatial characteristics which have significant influence on the distinct evaluation results; the research consists of 178 college students’ LSs measurement conducted by the Index of Learning Styles questionnaire and their subjective assessment to five typical learning spaces obtained by 5-point Likert-type scale. Then, the key spatial influencing factors were identified by the focus group interviews; the results firstly ranked the learning spaces according to their satisfaction evaluation and restorative potential. The self-study rooms are rated highest, followed by professional classroom, traditional classroom, and multimedia classroom. Then, two dimensions of learning styles were proved as having considerable effects on perception. Specifically, there are significant differences between visual and verbal learners’ evaluations of multimedia classrooms and traditional classrooms, and between global and sequential learners’ evaluations of multimedia classrooms, informal learning spaces, and learning buildings. The other two dimensions including perceiving and remembering have no obvious impacts on learners’ perception of any learning spaces. At last, the important influence factors of perceptions of five typical learning spaces were identified, respectively, and their different effects on various groups were discussed. For example, the serious atmosphere in traditional classrooms was regarded as a motivation for sensing learners but a stress for intuitive learners. The studies emphasize the perceptual difference on learning space in terms of students’ unique learning styles and key points for each kind of learning space with regard to satisfaction of personalized needs. However, before it can be used by designers as tools, more research is needed.

Abstract:Under the background of "double first-class" construction, the teaching staff, as the foundation of the construction of colleges and universities, determines the overall construction effect of colleges and universities.High-level teachers are the guarantee of talent cultivation, education and teaching, scientific research and competitiveness of colleges and universities.However, the improvement of teachers' quality is affected by many factors, which leads to teachers' choices that affect their overall performance when facing teaching and scientific research tasks.In view of this, this study attempts to determine the relationship between professional ability, incentive mechanism and career satisfaction in Chinese universities and colleges, and to propose ways to improve teacher quality.A total of 400 valid questionnaires were collected in this study, and SPSS 26.0 software was used for descriptive analysis, variance analysis and regression analysis.The results show that there is a positive correlation between professional ability, incentive mechanism and teacher satisfaction in Chinese universities.This means that the stronger the professional ability of teachers, the better the incentive mechanism, the higher the satisfaction of teachers, and the corresponding improvement of teacher quality.Through this research, universities may encourage and support the training and professional development of young teachers.This will help balance the age structure of the teaching force and provide more development opportunities for young teachers.As teachers themselves, they may continuously improve their level of professional ability, including teaching and academic ability, and formulate their own career plans in order to adapt to the constant changes in society.Regular teacher training programs should be established to help enhance their professional competence, while salaries and benefits should be improved to better motivate teachers.

Predictive and Mediating Effects of Learning Strategies and Styles on Chinese Undergraduate Students’ English Achievement

Abstract:The present large-scale quantitative study investigated the predictive effects of learning strategies and styles on Chinese undergraduate students’ English achievement and their mediating effects on each other’s relation to English achievement. A total of 439 students from different universities answered the 30-item Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire and 50-item Strategy Inventory for Language Learning as well as a background questionnaire. Analyses of the data revealed the following major findings: (a) Learning strategies were significantly positively related to learning styles, (b) both learning strategies and styles were significantly positively related to and predicted students’ English achievement, and (c) learning strategies significantly mediated the relation between learning styles and English achievement. These findings clearly highlight the importance of learning strategies and styles in second/foreign language learning. Based on these findings, some implications are discussed.

Abstract:By employing ″ the Longitudinal Data of the Survey on College Students′Development Situa-tion in Universities and Colleges at Beijing(2011-2013)″ ,this study analyzes how learning motivations in-fluence college students′ comprehensive ability development. The study concludes that:Firstly, college students are motivated by a strong desire for learning as well as leisure. It reflects that exam-oriented educa-tion has brought high pressure on students with intense competition,and after that,college students now de-mand a relaxing and anxiety-free environment. In the reform of university personnel cultivation,we need to rematch students′learning motivation and college education,and overstep the conflict between present situa-tion and our goal,then set up a new way to solve the problems. Secondly,The dislocation existing in different motivations and ability training indicates that at present the means of students′cultivation is still separated, and the concept of comprehensive cultivation hasn′t been put into practice. Especially,the training of critical thinking and social responsibility is seriously insufficient. Thirdly,The differences between urban and rural groups reflect the far-reaching influence of the family parenting culture in basic education stage to children e-motional cultivation and the development of the non-cognitive ability.
