Advances of Capillary Electrophoresis with Laser-induced Fluorescence Detection for the Analysis of Proteins and Peptides

Abstract:Capillary electrophoresis(CE)coupled with laser-induced fluorescence detection(LIF)provides a rapid and sensitive technique for the analysis of proteins and peptides.Three main approaches can be adopted to achieve effective separation and sensitive detection,that is,selecting and/or exploiting fluorescent reagents with appropriate properties and acceptable performance,establishing and/or optimizing the derivatization and separation processes,and employing and/or assembling LIF devices with high efficiency but low costs.This review highlights the characteristics of the common-used fluorescent reagents categorized by their laser-exciting sources and presents an overview of the recent applications and advances in the analysis of proteins and peplides using CE-LIF.
