Abstract:In this note, we obtain the sharp estimates for the first eigenvalue of Paneitz operator for $4$-dimensional compact submanifolds in Euclidean space. Since unit spheres and projective spaces can be canonically imbedded into Euclidean space, the corresponding estimates for the first eigenvalue are also obtained.

Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:In this paper we study bounds for the first eigenvalue of the Paneitz operator $P$ and its associated third-order boundary operator $B^3$ on four-manifolds. We restrict to orientable, simply connected, locally confomally flat manifolds that have at most two umbilic boundary components. The proof is based on showing that under the hypotheses of the main theorems, the considered manifolds are confomally equivalent to canonical models. This equivalence is proved by showing the injectivity of suitable developing maps. Then the bounds on the eigenvalues are obtained through explicit computations on the canonical models and its connections with the classes of manifolds that we are considering. The fact that $P$ and $B^3$ are conformal in four dimensions is key in the proof.

An improved variational formula, a general common estimate, and a new sharp one are added. The best lower estimates are now updated. The new estimates provide a global picture of what one can expect by our approach.

Abstract:We re-visit the eigenvalue estimate of the Dirac operator on spin manifolds with boundary in terms of the first eigenvalues of conformal Laplace operator as well as the conformal mean curvature operator. These problems were studied earlier by Hijazi–Montiel–Zhang and Raulot and we re-prove them under weaker assumption that a boundary chirality operator exists. Moreover, on these spin manifolds with boundary, we show that any $C^{3,\alpha }$ conformal compactification of some Poincare–Einstein metric must be the standard hemisphere when the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Dirac operator achieves its lowest value, and any $C^{3,\alpha }$ conformal compactification of some Poincare–Einstein metric must be the flat ball in Euclidean space when the first positive eigenvalue of the boundary Dirac operator achieves certain value relating to the second Yamabe invariant. In two cases the Poincare–Einstein metrics are standard hyperbolic metric.

Abstract:For a compact spin manifold M isometrically embedded into Euclidean space, we derive the extrinsic estimates from above and below for eigenvalues of the square of the Dirac operator, which depend on the second fundamental form of the embedding. We also show the bounds of the ratio of the eigenvalues. Since the unit sphere and the projective spaces admit the standard embedding into Euclidean spaces, we also obtain the corresponding results for their compact spin submanifolds.

Abstract:For a compact complex spin manifold M with a holomorphic isometric embedding into the complex projective space, the authors obtain the extrinsic estimates from above and below for eigenvalues of the Dirac operator, which depend on the data of an isometric embedding of M . Further, from the inequalities of eigenvalues, the gaps of the eigenvalues and the ratio of the eigenvalues are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the eigenvalue problem of Dirac operator on a compact Riemannian manifold isometrically immersed into Euclidean space and derive some extrinsic estimates for the sum of arbitrary consecutive $n$ eigenvalues of the square of the Dirac operator acting on some Dirac invariant subbundles. As some applications, we deduce some eigenvalue inequalities on the compact submanifolds immersed into Euclidean space, unit sphere or projective spaces and further get some bounds of general Reilly type. In addition, we also establish some universal bounds under certain curvature condition and on the meanwhile provide an alternative proof for Anghel's result. In particular, utilizing Atiyah-Singer index theorem, we drive an upper bound estimate for the sum of the first $n$ nontrivial eigenvalues of Atiyah-Singer Laplacian acting on the spin manifolds without dimensional assumption.

Abstract:In this note, we mainly focus on the existence of pseudo-Einstein contact forms, an upper bound eigenvalue estimate for the CR Paneitz operator and its applications to the uniformization theorem for Sasakian space form in an embeddable closed strictly pseudoconvex CR 3-manifold. Firstly, the existence of pseudo-Einstein contact form is confirmed if the CR 3-manifold is Sasakian. Secondly, we derive an eigenvalue upper bound estimate for the CR Paneitz operator and obtain the CR uniformization theorem for a class of CR 3-manifolds. At the end, under the positivity assumption of the pseudohermitian curvature, we derive the existence theorem for pseudo-Einstein contact forms and uniformization theorems in a closed strictly pseudoconvex CR 3-manifold of nonnegative CR Paneitz operator with kernel consisting of the CR-pluriharmonic functions and the CR Q-curvature is CR-pluriharmonic.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to provide sharp spectral gap estimates for problems involving higher-order operators (including both the clamped and buckling plate problems) on Cartan–Hadamard manifolds. The proofs are symmetrization-free — thus no sharp isoperimetric inequality is needed — based on two general, yet elementary functional inequalities. The spectral gap estimate for clamped plates solves a sharp asymptotic problem from [Q.-M. Cheng and H. Yang, Universal inequalities for eigenvalues of a clamped plate problem on a hyperbolic space, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 139(2) (2011) 461–471] concerning the behavior of higher-order eigenvalues on hyperbolic spaces, and answers a question raised in [A. Kristály, Fundamental tones of clamped plates in nonpositively curved spaces, Adv. Math. 367(39) (2020) 107113] on the validity of such sharp estimates in high-dimensional Cartan–Hadamard manifolds. As a byproduct of the general functional inequalities, various Rellich inequalities are established in the same geometric setting.

Abstract:Given a compact Riemannian manifold M^ the Poincare inequality tells us that for any smooth function/defined on M with / = 0, we can estimate f 2 in terms of | V/ P. JM JM JM By the minimax-principle, one knows that the best possible constant in the Poincare inequality is given by the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian.While this constant has analytic importance, it also gives strong insight in the geometry of the manifold.The upper estimate of the first eigenvalue has been discussed by many authors.J. Hersch [11] obtained an upper bound for manifolds homeomorphic to the two sphere.J. Cheeger [5], I. Chavel and E. Feldman [4] (see also Mazet [12] for generalization) obtained upper bound for manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature.The comparison theorem of S. Y. Cheng [8] gives s sharp upper bound for general Riemannian manifold in terms of the lower bound of the Ricci curvature and the diameter.While these progress had been made on the upper bound, not too many is known about the lower bound of the first eigenvalue.The best result is due to Lichnerowicz (see [1]) who gives a computable sharp lower bound for manifolds whose Ricci curvature is bounded from below by a positive constant.J. Cheeger [6] also gives a lower bound for general manifolds in terms of some isoperimetric constants.These constants of Cheeger, however, are not readily computable.Cheng [7] has observed that if the manifold is a two dimensional convex surface, then the isoperimetric constant has a lower bound in terms of the diameter.In this paper, we give a computable lower bound of the first eigenvalue of a general Riemannian manifold in terms of the lower bound of the Ricci curvature, the upper bound of the diameter and the lower bound of the volume.Actually, we have obtained the lower bound for the isoperimetric constants similar to those of Cheeger.We can also obtain a Sobolev inequality for a general Riemannian manifold.The first half of this paper is devoted to studying the two dimensional surfaces where better estimates for the isoperimetric constants are obtained.The second half of the paper is the proof of the main theorem.We shall come back to discuss the main theorem in a latter occasion.
First Eigenvalue Estimates for Asymptotically Hyperbolic Manifolds and their Submanifolds

Abstract:We derive a sharp upper bound for the first eigenvalue $\lambda_{1,p}$ of the $p$-Laplacian on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds for $1<p<\infty$. We then prove that a particular class of conformally compact submanifolds within asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds are themselves asymptotically hyperbolic. As a corollary, we show that for any minimal conformally compact submanifold $Y^{k+1}$ within $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}(-1)$, $\lambda_{1,p}(Y)=\left(\frac{k}{p}\right)^{p}$. We then obtain lower bounds on $\lambda_{1,2}(Y)$ in the case where minimality is replaced with a bounded mean curvature assumption and where the ambient space is a general Poincaré-Einstein space whose conformal infinity is of non-negative Yamabe type. In the process, we introduce an invariant $\hat \beta^Y$ for each such submanifold, enabling us to generalize a result due to Cheung-Leung.

Abstract:In this article, we prove pinching theorems for the first eigenvalue $\lambda _1(M)$ of the Laplacian on compact Euclidean hypersurfaces involving the integrals of $k$-th mean curvature. Particularly, we show that under a suitable pinching condition, the hypersurface is starshaped and almost-isometric to a standard sphere. Based on our theorems, we prove some pinching results for the almost-Einstein and almost-umbilical hypersurfaces in Euclidean space.
