Abstract:With the rapid growth of industrialization, polymers have become widely used in people's daily lives. However, the flammability of these materials poses a potential threat to people's safety and property. To support sustainable development, it is important and urgent to develop high-performance, green flame retardants. One such material that has garnered significant attention in the flame-retardant field is biomass phytic acid, which has high phosphorus content and excellent biocompatibility. In this review, we focus on the use of phytic acid in plastics, fabrics, and other polymers for fire resistance, including its intrinsic flame-retardant properties, phytate metal, phytate ammonium and multicomponent compounds. We also discuss the proposed mechanisms behind these flame-retardant properties and explore future trends in the field.

Abstract:The development and application of halogen-free flame retardant PC/ABS has become the main trend.In recent years,the phosphorus-containing flame retardants,have been developed rapidly because of their low toxicity,high efficiency and low price,which can improve flame retardancy and the processing flowability of alloy.An overview of recent research development on phosphorus-containing flame retardant system used for PC/ABS alloy is presented.The kinds of inorganic and organic phosphorus-containing systems,compositions and their effects on flame retardancy are introduced in detail.The relevant flame retarding mechanisms of the alloy are introduced briefly.The development trend is to develop organic phosphorus-containing flame retardants with high phosphorus content,high relevant molecular weight,good thermal stability,low toxicity and low smoke,and to use combination technology with synergistic flame retardant effect of different phosphate in gas and solid.

Abstract:Polypropylene has been used for applications requiring high mechanical properties, good adhesion, chemical stability and insulation. Whereas, Polypropylene itself is flammable, and its limiting oxygen index (LOI) is low, which cannot pass the UL-94 combustion test. Therefore, extensive use will cause a serious threat to human life and property. With the wide application of thermoplastic polypropylene in industry, the development of environmentally friendly flame retardant materials has become an important research direction. For the past dozen years, researchers have been exploring flame retardants with high flame retardant efficiency, low toxicity, less smoke or other excellent performance flame retardants. This paper reviews the research progress of some phosphorus-containing flame retardants on the flame retardant properties of polypropylene in recent years. Phosphorus flame retardant is a flame retardant with high flame retardant efficiency, good stability and wide application. The types and flame retardant properties of phosphorus flame retardant will be introduced, and the future research of phosphorus flame retardant is summarized, direction and development opportunities.

Abstract:PLA has become a commodity polymer with wide applications in a number of fields. However, its high flammability with the tendency to flow in fire has limited its viability as a perfect replacement for the petrochemically-engineered plastics. Traditional flame retardants, which may be incorporated into PLA without severely degrading the mechanical properties, are the organo-halogen compounds. Meanwhile, these compounds tend to bioaccumulate and pose a risk to flora and fauna due to their restricted use. Research into PLA flame retardants has largely focused on organic and inorganic compounds for the past few years. Meanwhile, the renewed interest in the development of environmentally sustainable flame retardants (FRs) for PLA has increased significantly in a bid to maintain the integrity of the polymer. A review on the development of new flame retardants for PLA is presented herein. The focus is on metal oxides, phosphorus-based systems, 2D and 1D nanomaterials, hyperbranched polymers, and their combinations, which have been applied for flame retarding PLA are discussed. The paper also reviews briefly the correlation between FR loadings and efficiency for various FR systems, and their effects on processing and mechanical properties.

Abstract:This paper introduces the current progress of flame retarded polyurethane materials containing phosphorus and halogen flame retardants .The main works are now developing new additive flame retardants, reactive flame retardants of organic phosphnate and flame retarded binders for flame retarded polyurethane materials. This paper also suggests that the future works should focus on improving comprehensive properties of flame retarded polyurethane materials and going deep into study flame retarded mechanism.

Abstract:The general flammability of polymer materials is a crucial problem to be solved in industrial applications. Polyphosphazenes, a kind organic-inorganic polymer and whose main chain is alternating by single and double bonds of phosphorus, nitrogen are endowed with excellent natural flame retardant synergies and thermal stability. Therefore, utilizing the designability of molecular structure and excellent flame retardant performance of polyphosphazene, a series of polyphosphazene flame retardants based on linear and cyclocrosslinked structures have been synthesized to improve the comprehensive properties especially the flame retardant properties, thermal stability and mechanical properties of materials, which is reviewed here. In particular, the molecular structure design and morphological changes of polyphosphazenes, flame retardant mechanism and the performance of flame retardant materials have been systematically discussed. As an important member of environmentally friendly halogen-free flame retardants, the challenges and opportunities encountered by polyphosphazene flame retardant materials have also been proposed in this review. In view of the excellent physical and chemical properties of polyphosphazenes, it's believed that an increasingly important role would be played by polyphosphazenes not only in flame retardant application but also in other application fields such as biomedicine and environmental adsorption.

Abstract:Currently,research and application of reactive phosphorus-containing polymer systems at home and abroad is still in initial phase. The introduction of phosphorus to improve the flame retardant of resin systems has been the focus of attention by researchers in recent years. In this paper,the mechanism of the phosphorus-containing flame retardant was simply discussed; a review on the recent developments in the research of reactive phosphorus-containing polymer ,including reactive flame retardant epoxy resins,poly-benzoxazine,poly(vinyl)s and poly(acrylic)s,polyamide,polyimide and polyurethane etc was given. Phosphorous-containing groups were introduced to the backbone chain or side chain of the polymers. The synthetic routes and properties were emphasized.

Abstract:The flame retardation of polymeric materials can be achieved by addition of small-molecule flame retardants. However, traditional small molecule flame retardants exhibit practical drawbacks during application, such as migration problems, the deterioration of polymer performance, as well as potential persistence, bio-accumulation and toxicity (PBT), etc. High molecular weight molecules have been found to be less accessible by living organisms and so have an automatically lower PBT profiles than small molecules. Phosphorus-containing thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers have proven to be a class of efficient polymeric flame retardants, which can overcome the aforementioned drawbacks of small molecules and have potential industrial applications to replace some of the existing small molecule flame retardants. The recent relevant developments are reviewed in this article.

Abstract:Polypropylene (PP), one of five general-purpose plastics, is widely used in many fields. However, the intrinsic alkane structure of PP makes it relatively easy to burn, leading to limiting its scope of application. Here, this article reviews the most commonly flame retarding strategies used in PP matrices, including the flame-retardant compounds, application methods as well as flame-inhibition mechanism and also focuses on recent advances and foresees the future outlook of such applications. It is seen that traditional flame retardants and some new compounds are considered in modifying the fire behaviors of PP. At present, with the enhancement of environmental awareness, the application frequency of novel materials in this field is increasing. Thus, the harmonious combination of traditional flame retardants with the newly derived flame retardants has broadened the choice of researchers to come up with novel strategies for improving the fire performance of PP matrices.
