Mathematics-Difficulty Children's Representations and Its Effects on the Word-Problem Solving

Abstract:Objective To investigate MD children's representations and its effects on the word-problem solving. Methods 30 MD children and other 30 mathematical-normal (MN) children were tested by four word-problems. Results MD children's numbers of representation type are remarkably less than MN children's; MD children are apt to using sentence representation and picture representation than relation representation and pattern representation; MD children have less scores and more time than MN children. Conclusion MD children's representations are not helpful in solving word-problems generally.
