Abstract:A total of 71 undergraduate students participated in the experiments.Thirty positive, thirty negative and thirty neutral Chinese words were used.In Experiment 1 and 2,we examined the validity of the standard affective priming paradigm and mere exposure effect paradigm. In the sequent experiments, positive prime words in standard affective priming paradigm were replaced by repeated exposed neutral words presented repeatedly in the same procedure as in Experiment 2 during the study phase. The result indicated that,a significant affective priming effect was observed successfully:neutral words possessed positive valence after repeated exposure, which played the role of positive prime words in a standard affective priming paradigm. This research suggested that the mere exposure of stimuli might be a source of the formation of positive affection.
