Abstract:A review is provided of the progress in the research of electrodeposited single metal nano-crystalline.The methods for preparing various single metal nano-crystallines including nanoparticles(zero dimension),nanowires(one dimension)and nanoplatings(two dimensions)with different properties and structures are summarized.It is pointed out that chemical methods used for preparing nanomaterials have the advan-tages of good controllability of the grains and structures,facile processes,and operation at ambient conditions.Besides,currently existing problems and prospects concerning the study of electropla-ted single metal nano-crystallines are discussed.
Preparation of nanocrystalline electrocatalystic electrode for electrodeposition

Abstract:Galvanostatic deposition is used to electrodeposit nickel and nickel-cobalt alloy from a Watts bath containing saccharin at 50-60°C, pH<3.5 and at the current density i>5 A·dm-2 in D.C. or pulse plating conditions. When comparing intensities of the nickel and nickel-cobalt alloy deposits with the traditional nickel deposit, it can be concluded that the deposits have strong (111) fibre texture by XRD analysis. The results of the X ray and SEM and EDS (energy dispersive spectroscope) analysis show that the crystal of nickel and nickel-cobalt alloy deposits are nanocrystalline whose grain size is less than 100 nm and whose deposits are found to contain a little sulphur impurity. The electrodes made by electrodeposited nickel or nickel-cobalt alloy can electrocatalyse hydrogen evolution in 1 mol·L-1 H2SO4. They also show good stability and anti-corrosion in these solutions.

Abstract:Several commonly used methods,namely anodic oxidation templates method,constant potential electrodeposition method and pulsed electrodeposition method,together with their mechanisms for preparing one-dimensional nanomaterials,are reviewed.Meanwhile,the thermodynamics and kinetics mechanisms of nucleation and growth for nanomaterials are discussed.In addition,the prospect of electrochemical methods for preparing one-dimensional nanomaterials is also provided according to the applications and research progresses of electrochemical synthesis method at present.

Abstract:A review is given on the recent research progress in synthesis and fabrication of nano-materials including powders,thin film, fiber, and composite materials, with the application of electroless plating in the preparation of nanomaterials to be focused on. It has been pointed out that nanomaterials have a lot of specific properties that are not observed for traditional materials. This is why nano-materials have been becoming the frontiers in material science and condensed matter physics. Abstract:The research progress of different functional nano-composite deposits were reviewed,and the photocatalysis activity,high hardness and corrosion resistance,self-lubricity,electric contact,unleaded weldability and high temperature oxidation resistance of nano-composite deposits were introduced.The application of pulse electroplating to nano-composite deposits and the stabilization and dispersion of nano-particles in bath were analysed.The codeposition mechanisms of composite electroplating were introduced.The prospect of nano-composite electroplating was presented,and some problems that need deep study were pointed out.

Abstract:Electrodeposition is used at the industrial scale to make coatings, membranes, and composites. With better understanding of the nanoscale phenomena associated with the early stage of the process, electrodeposition has potential to be adopted by manufacturers of energy storage devices, advanced electrode materials, fuel cells, carbon dioxide capturing technologies, and advanced sensing electronics. The ability to conduct precise electrochemical measurements using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and chronopotentiometry in addition to control of precursor composition and concentration makes electrocrystallization an attractive method to investigate nucleation and early-stage crystal growth. In this article, we review recent findings of nucleation and crystal growth behaviors at the nanoscale, paying close attention to those that deviate from the classical theories in various electrodeposition systems. The review affirms electrodeposition as a valuable method both for gaining new insights into nucleation and crystallization on surfaces and as a low-cost scalable technology for the manufacturing of advanced materials and devices.

Abstract:The nanocrystalline cobalt deposit with different structural characteristics and grain size were prepared by using different electro-deposition methods.The surface topography,and the size and the crystalline phase of the cobalt deposit were investigated by scanning elecrtron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD),respectively.The microhardness of the cobalt deposit was evaluated on MV-2T hardness tester.The friction and wear properties of the cobalt deposit were studied on a UMT-3M multifunctional friction and wear tester,and their worn surface were characterized by SEM.The results show that the size and crystalline phase of cobalt deposit,tribological properties and microhardness,were significantly affected by the electro-deposition methods.The cobalt deposit prepared by dual pulse electro-deposition had the smallest grain size,the highest microhardness and better wear resistance.The pin holes of the nanocrystalline cobalt deposit prepared by single-double pulse electro-deposition were the smallest.And this cobalt deposit also exhibited the best wear resistance and higher microhardness.These results indicate that the structure,anti-wear properties and microhardness of cobalt deposit can be controlled by controlling electro-deposition methods.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline Cobalt (Co) deposits with different microstructures are produced by direct current (DC), unipolar pulse, reverse pulse, and bipolar pulse electrodeposition processes. The microstructural characteristics of the resulting deposits, including average grain size, phase structure, surface roughness and morphology, are greatly affected by the electrodeposition techniques used. The hardness, friction and wear behaviors, and the electrochemical corrosion properties of the deposit are strongly dependent on the microstructural characteristics. The bipolar pulse electrodeposition produces nanocrystalline Co deposit that is featured by small grain size and low surface roughness, and consequently the highest hardness and resistances to wear and corrosion. The nanocrystalline Co deposit produced by the reverse pulse electrodeposition exhibits the smallest grain size and highest hardness but the lowest wear resistance attributable to its rough surface and indistinctive hcp (100) and (110) textures. DC plating has produced Co deposit with the largest grain size, the lowest hardness and corrosion resistance, and a relatively low wear resistance. The electrodeposition mechanisms involved in these processes are explained and related to the microstructures, properties and wear mechanisms of the resulting nanocrystalline Co deposits.

Abstract:A quasi two-dimension electrodeposition method was used to prepare materials with arborized, tree-shaped, and membrane patterned micro/nano-structures. The morphology of the membrane patterned micro/nano-structure was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, and a mechanism for the morphology formation was suggested. The novel preparation method used in this study, which is proprietary to our research group, does not require a template and so has many advantages including controllable, low cost, large scale preparation. The electrolyte concentration and electrodeposition voltage had a significant effect on the resulting morphology.

Abstract:The nickel pastes have been given much attention due to their wide applications in the chip ceramic capacitor,PDP(plasma displays),silicon solar cell fields and their synthesis has become an active area.But in the electronic conductive pastes,it is essential for the use of small size and non-agglomerated with the narrow size distribution Ni powders,which are not able to be produced in China at present.Therefore,various advanced preparation methods of ultrafine nickel powders are reviewed,including spray pyrolysis,hydrothermal hydrogen reduction,solution reduction method,solid carbon reduction method,γ-ray radiation,alloy mehtod.Their advantages and disadvantages as well as their applications are commented in this paper.Particularly,the liquid phase reducing method,as a new preparative method of nanosized nickel powder,is also put forward by the author.
