Abstract:To investigate the chemical constituents of the whole plants of Bidens bipinnata, the separation and purification of constituents were performed by chromatography on macroporous resin, silica gel, MCI and Sephadex LH-20. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data as quercetin (1), quercetin-3-0-alpha-L-rhamnoside (2), keampferol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), keampferol-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside (4), 3', 5-dyhydroxy-3, 6, 4'-trimethoxyl -7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside flavonoid (5), 7, 8, 3', 4'-tetraflavanone(6), (2S)- and (2R)-isookanin-7-O-beta-D- glucopyranoside (7a/7b), (2S)- and (2R)-3'-methoxy-isookanin-8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (8a/8b), 6, 7, 3', 4'-tetrahydroxyaurone(9), maritimetin (10), esculetin (11), 3-O-caffeoyl-2-methyl-d-erythrono-1, 4-lactone (12), (7S, 8R) balanophonin-4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (13), eugenyl-O-beta-apiofuranosyl-( 1"-6') -O-beta-glucopyranoside (14), and (+)-syringaresinol-4'-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (15). Compounds 8, 13, 14, and 15 were isolated from this genus for the first time. Compounds 1 and 6 were potent inhibitors against HSC-T6 cells in vitro and compounds 1, 2, 6, and 7 were capable of decreasing the inflammatory cytokine production of macrophage cells in vitro.

Abstract:Cannabis sativa L. is one of the oldest plants used for medicine because of its numerous natural constituents. From the 1960s to the present, a total of 565 constituents have been reported from Cannabis sativa L., which could be classified into two types: phytocannabinoids and non-cannabinoids. These active constituents are responsible for analgesic, anti-tumor, anti-nausea and vomiting, treatment and brain disease, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, etc. However, the pharmacological mechanism was gradually revealed in the past 50 years, and still need further study. In this paper, we present a general overview of chemical constituents in Cannabis sativa L., biosynthetic pathways of cannabinoids and key enzymes involved, techniques of determining cannabinoids, and the main potential (or established) therapeutic uses of some cannabis-related drugs, to provide reference for pharmacology and therapeutic potential of Cannabis sativa L..
Chemistry and pharmacology of Bidens pilosa: an overview

Abstract:Bidens pilosa L. is an edible herb and has been traditionally used for a wide range of ailments in many countries. The aim of this review is to present comprehensive information of the chemical constituents, nutraceutical and ethnomedical uses as well as the biological and pharmacological effects and toxicity of this plant based on 218 literary sources reported over 40 years. Major chemical constituents (including 301 compounds) belonging to polyacetylenes, polyacetylene glycosides, flavonoids, flavone glycosides, aurones, chalcones, okanin glycosides, phenolic acids, terpenes, pheophytins, fatty acids and phytosterols have been identified or isolated from the different parts of this plant. Many of them have been considered as the bioactive compounds which are potentially responsible for the pharmacological actions. Various types of preparations, extracts and individual compounds derived from this plant have been found to possess biological and pharmacological activities such as anti-malarial, anti-allergy, anti-hypertensive and smooth muscle relaxant, anti-cancerogenic, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antioxidant. The results of data analysis on the chemicals, pharmacological and toxicological characteristics of B. pilosa validate the view of its folk worldwide-medicinal uses. This herb has a great beneficial therapeutic property and is possibly used for complement or alternative to pharmaceutical drugs in some specific cases. However, this herb is known as hyperaccumulator and as-excluder; therefore, harvesting the herb for medicinal uses should be judiciously cautioned.

Abstract:Objective To review the studies on the Impatiens balsamina L.including their chemical constituents and pharmacological effects.Methods The research advances based on the related references were summarized.Results Impatiens balsamina L.contained large quantities of flavonoids,naphthoquinones,coumarins and so on,some of them were firstly obtained from the nature.Pharmaceutical researches showed that the Impatiens balsamina L.,as well as its chemical constituents presented good anti-allergy,anti-inflammation,anti-fungus activities.Conclusions It is of important significance in discovering and developing new medicines to carry out the studies related with Impatiens balsamina L.

Abstract:Objective To isolate and identify chemical constituents from Bidens bipinnata L. and screen for the an-ti-fibrosis activity. Methods The extracts were passed through HPD-100 macroporous resin columns with 100%water and 70% ethanol following by macro resin HPD-100, silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20, MCI and ODS chromatography. The structures of the components were elucidated by NMR methods. The prolifera-tion of HSC-T6 cells was evaluated by MTT. Results 13 components were isolated from the plant including 3-(hydroxyacetyl)indole (1), Kaempferol (2), 6,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxy-aurone (3), Quercetin (4), Okanin (5), Pinoresinol (6), (3E,11E)-tetradecadiene-5,7,9-tetrayn-1,2,13-triol (7), Isookanin (8), bis (2-ethylheptyl) phythalate (9), kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (10), (2S/2R) isookanin-7-O-β-D-(2″,4″,6″-triacetyl)gluco-pyranoside (11/12), 2-O-β-D-glucosyltri-deca-3,11E-en-5,7,9-tetrayn-1,13-diol (13). Conclusion 13 com-ponents are isolated from Bidens bipinnata L. , among which compounds 6, 9 are isolated from this genus for the first time and compounds 2, 4 could inhibit the proliferation of HSC-T6 cells.

Abstract:Bidens procera L.C.Xu ex X.W.Zheng (B. procera) as a new species was firstly investigated by phytochemical method, resulting in the isolation of sixteen compounds including eight flavonoids (7–14), four caffeoyl derivatives (3–6), two coumarins (1–2), one alkaloid (15), and one aliphatic (16). Their structures were elucidated by analyses of their NMR and MS spectroscopic data as well as by comparison of these data with those published in the literature. Compounds 2, 9, 15, 16 were reported from the Compositae family for the first time. Chemotaxonomic studies indicated that there were close relationships between species B. procera and Bidens pilosa L. (B. pilosa), as well as genera Bidens and Chrysanthemum.

Abstract:The revelant literatures about chemical constituents from the plant Bacopa monnieri and their pharmacological activities were consulted and summarized.The plant contains major chemical compounds including triterpenoids and their glycosides,flavonoids,phenylethanoid glycosides and sterols.It has the impact on central nervous system,cardiovascular system,digestive system,respiratory system and endocrine system,in addition to anti-inflammatory,analgesic,anti-oxidation,hypoglycemic,antitumor,anti-microbial and liver and kidney protection and other pharmacological activities.This paper reviewed the chemical compositions and pharmacological activities,and provided a scientific basis for further research and development of the plant.

Abstract:Recent studies on chemical constituents from Daphne genus and their pharmacological activities and clinical application were reviewed respectively. Daphne genus contains a variety of chemical constituents, mainly including diteropenoids, coumarins, lignans, flavonoid and biflavonoid compounds. Pharmacological studies indicated that the constituents had antifertility, analgesic, antiinflammatory, antibacterial, antitumor, antithrombotic and anticoagulant activities. Their clinical application is promising.

Abstract:Objective By combing pertinent literature and summarizing the current states of chemical composition of Bupleurum Chinense related with its efficacy and toxicity,to identify its effective and toxical composition,offer the accordance and research ideas for further research on the relationship between efficacy,toxicity and chemical composition of Bupleurum Chinense.Methods The related references in recent 20 years at home and abroad about Bupleurum Chinense were analyzed,collated and summarized.Results The main chemical composition of Bupleurum Chinense was saikosaponin,naphtha,flavonoids,polysaccharide and plant sterol,etc,and the saikosapoin and naphtha were the main chemical compositions;the pharmacological activity research was focused on saikosaponin,naphtha,flavonoids and polysaccharide;the toxicity research was focused on the extracts of Bupleurum Chinense,saikosaponin and naphtha,and the toxical target organ was liver.Conclusion The saikosaponin and naphtha were not only effective compositions that protected the liver,but also the toxical composition that injured of the liver.How to maximize the "shuganjieyu" efficacy and limit the hepatotoxicity of "Chinense robbing hepatic yin" were the key that restricted the chemical composition research.The efficacy and toxicity research of Bupleurum Chinense should be put on the background of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome to make the comprehensive evaluation and scientific cognitive,to explore the "effective treatment window " and "drug safety window",and to insure the safety and effectiveness of clinical medication.

Abstract:Bidens bipinnata L. is a folk medicinal plant in China that shows significant antihyperlipidemia effectiveness. However, studies of the underlying mechanism study are lacking. In order to explore the potential action sites and the underlying mechanism of treating hyperlipidemic, this work undertook tissue distribution and molecular docking research on the markers of B. bipinnata L., which were obtained through serum pharmacochemistry and network database retrieval. The results showed that seven compounds (gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, rutin, hyperoside, bipinnate polyacetylenicloside, luteolin and quercetin) were screened out as markers. Owing to the diversity of chemical structures, they exhibited an inconsistent trend in tissue distribution. However, all of them had high levels in the liver and no specific distribution in other tissues. More interestingly, seven proteins-HMGCR (1HWK), NR3C1 (4P6W), CYP1A2 (2HI4), RXRA (4PP3), CES1 (1MX1), HSD11B1 (2RBE) and CYP1A1 (4I8V)-showed significant binding affinity with three or more markers, suggesting that they may be the target proteins of B. bipinnata L. This study preliminarily sheds light on the tissue distribution and targets of B. bipinnata L., providing some useful information on the underlying mechanisms of the antihyperlipidemia effect.

Abstract:Objective To summarize the research progress of chemical structures and biological activities of Pachysandra terminalis Sieb.et Zucc.,and to provide references for the further research.Methods Literatures about Pachysandra terminalis Sieb.et Zucc.between 1964 to 2016 in journals and books were summarized in respect of the progress of chemical structures and biological activities.Results Since 1964,scholars separated a variety of alkaloids and non-alkaloid constituents from Pachysandra terminalis Sieb.et Zucc.and its antibacterial,anti-tumor, anti-oxidation,anti-ulcer and immunosuppressive activity were studied.Conclusion In order to develop the medicinal application of Pachysandra terminalis Sieb.et Zucc.,the chemical constituents,pharmacological activities and mechanism should be conducted.Meanwhile,the biological effects and the medical value compounds should be clarified.

Abstract:Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briq. is a famous Chinese traditional medicine with antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and hemostatic effects. Many chemical components can be isolated and detected by using various analysis methods, including monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, aldehydes, ketones, quinones, alcohols, phenols, carboxylic acids and esters, etc., in which volatile oil was considered to be the main chemical component. In this paper, the chemical constituents and their pharmacological effects were reviewed by summarizing the recent literature, revealing the relationship between them.

Abstract:For centuries, species of the genus Consolida (Ranunculaceae) have been extensively utilized for their extremely high ornamental and medicinal values. Phytochemical investigations of Consolida species have revealed the presence of multiple active ingredients, including diterpenoid alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, phytosterols, fatty acids, and volatile constituents. These chemical constituents are of great research significance due to their novel structures and broad biological activities. This review addresses, for the first time, the chemical constituents of Consolida plants and the biological activities of these compounds to facilitate future research.
