Abstract:Objective:To investigate the impact of Tanshinone ⅡA on oxidative stress in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis(CAPD) patients.Methods:Thirty-eight stable CAPD patients were randomly divided into two groups. The experimental group(n=19) were dialyzed with peritoneal dialysis fluid along with 5 mg·L-1Tanshinone ⅡA,and the control group(n=19) were dialyzed with peritoneal dialysis fluid without Tanshinone ⅡA.The concentration of glutathione(GSH),total-superoxide dismutase(T-SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA) in serum and effluent and serum albumin were measured at the beginning and three weeks later. And dialysis adequancy indices such as KT/V and creatinine clearance rate(Ccr) were also calculated for each group. Results:Three weeks later, the serum and effluent GSH,T-SOD increased and MDA decreased significantly in the experimental group as compared with those indices at the beginning(P0.01 or P0.05).No such differences were found in the control group. The levels of the serum and effluent GSH,T-SOD were significantly higher, and MDA was lower in experimental group as compared with those in the control group after three weeks treatment(P0.01 or P0.05).There were no significant differences in serum albumin,KT/V,ultrafiltration volume and Ccr between two groups. The levels of GSH,T-SOD were significantly higher and the levels of MDA was significantly lower in experimental group compared with those in control group(P0.05).Conclusion:Short-term supplement of Tanshinone ⅡA into peritoneal dialysis fluid can reduce both local and systemic oxidative stress in CAPD patients.
