Abstract:Liu xizai is a famous writer in literary criticism in late Qing Dynasty,whose book The Sum of Literature gives a high and correct evaluation of Li bai's poems and is quite creative.This is exhibited in these aspects: the origin of Li bai 's poems can be traced back to Zhuang and Sao;Li bai had great ambitions and wanted to assist a ruler in governing a country,but his poems often represent the opposition;his words have proper limits in essence;Li bai's poems have elegant content and rhythm and besides,he often has Promethean verses.

Abstract:The special literary environment in the reign of Wu Zetian created a new chance for literary growth.This literary environment showed the following characteristics: the system was established to employ officials by paper writing;the authority of the nobles was diminished;the San Jiao Shu Ying was compiled and Conficianism,Taoism and Buddhism became merged;and finally literary context turned from Confucianistic to humanistic.

Abstract:Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern,Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties are known as the middle ancient ages in the history of Chinese literature.The newly unearthed documents will contribute to a reexamination of literary background,literary evolution,literary ontology and stylistic form of these dynasties to correct the traditional heavy reliance in literary history on longitudinal combing.First,unearthed documents play an important role for the research on regional literary history to regain the initiative.Second,the research on unearthed documents is helpful to probe into the literary phenomena buried by history.Third,unearthed documents are significant for the research of essay,especially for the further study on stylistic forms dominated by practical writing.Because unearthed documents are excavated in odds and ends by accident,they should be compared with historical recordation in study.A comprehensive perspective of social-cultural science,based on the restoration of unearthed texts,will thus shed light on the natural process of birth and growth of literature.

Abstract:QIAN Mu is famous for his studies in the area of historiography, so his literary criticism is based on historiographical context. On the one hand, he analyzed literary works and theories from the perspective of history; one the other hand, he explained the historical meaning of literature by citing literary works to verify history development. Contrary to the trend of Chinese literary criticism in the early 20th century, QIAN Mu held on to traditional Chinese “elegant literary view”. His claim that literature and academy which are all representations of life spirit are interrelated is not only the broad literary perspective he left to us, but also the literary view on life with pure literary sense.

Abstract:Yu Yue’s academic view,literature view and drama view have some isomorphism.In aca-demic research,being the great academic master of southeast China in late Qing Dynasty,he wor-shiped Zheng Xuan’s classical research method,and regarded himself as the private student of Wang Niansun and Wang Yinzhi.In the literature field,he admired Bai Juyi in heart,advocated the smooth,beautiful,shallow and light literature style,and formed meaningful,subtle,fresh and smooth style in his poetry,drama and novels.While in the literature content he was strictly abided by the traditional Confucian education ethics,his novel and drama works had a thick preachy sig-nificance,and even expressed the tendency of writing the drama as the classics.All above was de-termined by his identity of scribe and classics.

Abstract:Jiao Hong is an important thinker and writer in late Ming,all aspects of his thought are nexus in history,especially the literary thought.Both attach importance to "Zaidao" tradition in literature,but also approbate the "Ci" and "Fa";both value the "Fenggu","Xingji",also do not ignore the "Xingqing";not only recognize the function of "Jingshi" about literature,also free lyric in the poems.He achieved a combination of literature and life in a poetic way,at the same time,integrate content and form,"Shanggu" and "Xingling","Jingshi" and "lyric" together successfully.All of those played an important role in the development of literature in the late Ming Dynasty.

Abstract:In Lu Ji(陆机) ’s biography from the History of the Jin Dynasty(《晋书》),Emperor Tang Taizong(唐太宗) summarized Lu Ji’s life from two perspectives.Firstly,Tang Taizong highly appraised Lu Ji and awarded him the title "the originator of writing from various dynasties"for his outstanding achievements in literature.Secondly,in combination with Lu Ji’s tragic fate,Tang Taizong presented his views on the literati’ s way of life,from which we can see he had a complex about the literati.Meanwhile,Tang Taizong put forward a new poetic theory to correct the drawbacks in the domain of poetry,which advocated the view that poems should be magnificent and passionate.Therefore his poetic theory occupied a position in the history of the development of Chinese literary theory.

Abstract:Laozi is of great importance during the whole history of Chinese philosophy.However,its literary value is seldom mentioned by the scholars in fields of literature and philosophy.As argued by Laozi himself,True words are never resplendent, many scholars insist on the historical misunderstanding in the book of Laozi that simplicity and navete are more important than beauty and resplendence.This article focuses on the argument of true words are never resplendent, and discusses the viewpoint of navete,the strategy of language,the reception of classics and the writing skills demonstrated in Laozi,in order to manifest its significance in the history of Chinese literature.

Abstract:Literary texts constitute an important part of the history of literature and function significantly in the narration of the history of literature.They are the starting point and the end of the studies of literary history.Before the publication of A Brief History of Chinese Fiction by Lu Xun,attention paid to fiction was rather limited in the field of literary history,and there was a void of a perspective or narrative strategy incorporating a specific text history and its literature property into the historical narration.A Brief History of Chinese Fiction utterly changed the situation by citing a great amount of extracted fictional texts to show its readers directly an explicit outline of the evolution of Chinese classical fiction.Lu Xun's emphasis on texts,his peculiar understandings of literature and his insights into history are clearly shown in this book.Nevertheless,as a monograph written in certain historical period,there are some improper texts cited in it.As the studies of the history of literature and the history of fiction deepen,new citations have substituted the old ones,which is a manifestation of the academic development.In the sense of reconstructing a coordinate system for literary history,close readings of texts and extractions of meaningful episodes will change the landscape of the history of fiction.

Abstract:Huang Zongxi is a famous thinker of early Qing Dynasty,at the same time,he had made certain contribution to the ancient Chinese drama theory.Huang Zongxi had positive attitude on opera,and he thought highly of the opera's distinct characters,such as true qualities,feeling,and custom and truth,which is the continuation of the drama view in late Ming Dynasty.However,in his late years,he strongly rejected opera.The change of Huang Zongxi's view on opera was connected with his change of academic view.The change of his academic thought is from the early Ming Dynasty academic to the late Qing Dynasty one,to which the change of his drama view is corresponding,namely from the Ming Dynasty drama view to the Qing Dynasty One.

Abstract:Chen Jieqi being the number one of epigra phy since the periods of Xianfeng and Tongzhi has been generally acknowledged by academic circles. However, our epigraphy circle stays the level of argumentation and testification, hard to avoid the repetitions a nd encumbrances. The thesis verifies them with reas on in four respects: in the viewpoint of the relations a mong them; the station of Liu Xihai in the mental view of the contemporary; Chen Jieqi purchasing and using the collections of Liu Xihai and imitating the ways of Liu's collecting; and the same spirit of Chert Jieqi's pursuing his studies as Liu Xihai etc., based on the historical facts, and demonstrates the influences of older Liu Xihai on the studies and collections of younger Chen Jieqi.

Abstract:This paper discusses OUYANG Xiu's suppression towards "the literary style in Imperial College" from the perspective of political history.It argues that the main motive of OUYANG Xiu was not only literary renovation,but also risisted the political habits of the impatient students who often discussed current affairs in a bad manner.This manner came from the scholar-officials who intensely participated in political affairs from Qingli Age to Jiayou Age.OUYANG Xiu tried his best to maitain the appropriate order of the government and took great pains in mediating between the passionate officials who could easily go to extremes.Although pinned hopes on the next generation,OUYANG Xiu ultimately failed to hold back the radical political manner.His political attitude and experiences were considerably representative at that time.

Abstract:There is a great relationship between the rise of Jin-wen-Jing-Xue and the argument of meaning and thing on The Spring and Autumn Annals in Qing Dynasty.Under the academic atmosphere of emphasizing fact in the school of Qian-Jia,but on the contrary,Zhuang Chunyu thought that The Spring and Autumn Annals was not a history of recorded events,but a record of meaning.Similarly,Kong Guangsen argued that Confucius' The Spring and Autumn Annals had a lot of new understandings,though it was about the history of Lu.Strictly speaking,both of them did not belong to the scholars of Jin-wen-Jing-Xue after the reign of Jiaqing and Daoguang.However,this kind of consciousness of emphasizing meaning not thing started the beginning of the Jin-wen-Jing-Xue of Qing Dynasty.

Abstract:Abstract Lu Xun's 魯迅 (1881–1936) early classical-style essays are concerned with issues in the history and philosophy of science, as well as literature, philosophy, politics, and aesthetics during an era in which China went through profound cultural changes. Part of their significance also lies in the way they provide us with an unabashed glimpse at what Lu Xun, who was to become China's most important writer of the twentieth century, set out to accomplish with his intended literary career. They first appeared in the Chinese expatriate journal Henan 河南 (Ho-nan, 1907–8). Although they are products of his last student years in Japan, the fact that he chose to include the two longest of them at the very front of his 1926 anthology Fen 墳 (The Grave) indicates that he considered the views expressed therein neither too immature nor too dated to reprint at the height of his career as a creative writer. In fact, he suggests in his preface to Fen that one of his reasons for doing so was that the poets and causes treated there had, ironically, taken on an increased relevance for China in the years “after the founding of the republic.” Over the years since they were written, the content and style of these essays have been the subject of considerable scholarly scrutiny, but this has drawn out divergent views. Scholars in Japan have done an admirable job of tracing down the sources of some of the essays, although their interpretation was not without controversy there. Chinese scholars have first discounted, then eschewed, then annotated, and finally extolled them as harbingers of a new poetics or a profound meditation on unresolved issues still facing China. Westerners, by and large, give them a degree of primacy, but from different perspectives and to different degrees. This article examines the reception of these essays internationally, recontextualizing it within the historical factors that contributed to and molded it.
