Abstract:A new and highly oxygenated limonoids compound, evolimorutanin 2, was isolated from the unripe fruits of Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss.) Benth. var. bodinieri (Dode) Huang (fructus evodiae) as a traditional Chinese medicine together with the known limonin 1. The chemical structure was elucidated by IR, MS, ID NMR(H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and distorsionless enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT)) and 2D NMR (H-1-H-1 COSY, heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC) and hetero nuclear multiple bond coherence (HMBC)). Both limonin and evolimorutanin belong to nortriterpenoids compounds on the chemical structure and their substituents and stereochemistry in the rings A, A', B, C, D were completely same, and their exclusive difference was the oxygenation in the ring E. In addition, the possible transformation route of evoli-morutanin from limonin via shihulimonin A is proposed.
