Abstract:We prove that the singular set of an $m$-dimensional integral current $T$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n + m}$, semicalibrated by a $C^{2, \kappa_0}$ $m$-form $\omega$ is countably $(m - 2)$-rectifiable. Furthermore, we show that there is a unique tangent cone at $\mathcal{H}^{m - 2}$-a.e. point in the interior singular set of $T$. Our proof adapts techniques that were recently developed in [DLS23a, DLS23b, DLMS23] for area-minimizing currents to this setting.

Abstract:We consider an area-minimizing integral current $T$ of codimension higher than $1$ in a smooth Riemannian manifold $\Sigma$. In a previous paper we have subdivided the set of interior singular points with at least one flat tangent cone according to a real parameter, which we refer to as ``singularity degree''. This parameter determines the infinitesimal order of contact at the point in question between the ``singular part'' of $T$ and its ``best regular approximation''. In this paper we show that the set of points for which the singularity degree is strictly larger than $1$, is $(m-2)$-rectifiable. In a subsequent work we prove that the remaining flat singular points form an $(m-2)$-null set, thus concluding that the singular set of $T$ is $m-2$-rectifiable.

Abstract:For any non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous hypersurface singularity, we describe a family of moduli spaces, a virtual cycle, and a corresponding cohomological field theory associated to the singularity. This theory is analogous to Gromov-Witten theory and generalizes the theory of r-spin curves, which corresponds to the simple singularity A_r-1. We also resolve two outstanding conjectures of Witten. The first conjecture is that ADE-singularities are self-dual; and the second conjecture is that the total potential functions of ADE-singularities satisfy corresponding ADE-integrable hierarchies. Other cases of integrable hierarchies are also discussed.

Abstract:De Lellis and coauthors have proved a sharp regularity theorem for area-minimizing currents in finite coefficient homology. They prove that area-minimizing mod $v$ currents are smooth outside of a singular set of codimension at least $1.$ Classical examples like triple junctions demonstrate that their result is sharp.

Abstract:Consider an $m$-dimensional area minimizing mod$(2Q)$ current $T$, with $Q\in\mathbb{N}$, inside a sufficiently regular Riemannian manifold of dimension $m + 1$. We show that the set of singular density-$Q$ points with a flat tangent cone is countably $(m-2)$-rectifiable and has locally finite $(m-2)$-dimensional upper Minkowski content. This complements the thorough structural analysis of the singularities of area-minimizing hypersurfaces modulo $p$ that has been completed in the series of works of De Lellis-Hirsch-Marchese-Stuvard and De Lellis-Hirsch-Marchese-Stuvard-Spolaor, and the work of Minter-Wickramasekera.

Flat interior singularities for area almost-minimizing currents

Abstract:The interior regularity of area-minimizing integral currents and semi-calibrated currents has been studied extensively in recent decades, with sharp dimension estimates established on their interior singular sets in any dimension and codimension. In stark contrast, the best result in this direction for general almost-minimizing integral currents is due to Bombieri in the 1980s, and demonstrates that the interior regular set is dense. The main results of this article show the sharpness of Bombieri's result by constructing two families of examples of area almost-minimizing integral currents whose flat singular sets contain any closed, empty interior subset $K$ of an $m$-dimensional plane in $\mathbb{R}^{m+n}$. The first family of examples are codimension one currents induced by a superposition of $C^{k,\alpha_*}$ graphs with $K$ contained in the boundary of their zero set. The second family of examples are two dimensional area almost-minimizing integral currents in $\mathbb{R}^4$ whose set of branching singularities contains $K$.

Abstract:There are two types of $J$-holomorphic spheres in a symplectic manifold invariant under an anti-symplectic involution: those that have a fixed point locus and those that do not. The former are described by moduli spaces of $J$-holomorphic disks, which are well studied in the literature. In this paper, we first study moduli spaces describing the latter and then combine the two types of moduli spaces to get a well-defined theory of counting real curves of genus 0. We use equivariant localization to show that these invariants (unlike the disk invariants) are essentially the same for the two (standard) involutions on $\mathbb{P}^{4n-1}$.

Abstract: By using analytic method, we prove that there exist rational curves on compact Hermitian manifolds with positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. It confirms a question of S.-T. Yau. It is well-known that Mori proved in \cite{Mori79} that every compact complex manifold $N$ with $c_1(N)>0$ contains at least one rational curve. However, as a borderline example, we show that the standard Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ has a Hermitian metric with non-negative holomorphic bisectional curvature (in particular, $c_1(S^1\times S^3)\geq 0$), but it contains no rational curve.
Examples of Harmonic Foliated Currents and Singular Levi-flats on the Projective Plane

Abstract:We provide examples of foliations on the complex projective plane $\CP^2$ carrying positive foliated harmonic currents whose supports coincide with singular Levi-flats which, in turn, can be chosen real-analytic (but non-algebraic) or merely continuous with fractal transverse nature. Furthermore, non-trivial examples as above can already be found among foliations of degree~$2$ and~$3$. In addition, the space of positive foliated harmonic currents for these foliations is fully characterised and it contains a unique harmonic (non-closed) current supported on the Levi-flat in question. Finally, we also provide examples of foliations carrying diffuse positive foliated closed currents related to a theorem due to Brunella as well as a general criterion for the existence of singular real analytic Levi-flats for Riccati foliations.

Holomorphic symplectic manifolds from semistable Higgs bundles

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{M}_{C}(2, 0)$ be the moduli space of semistable rank two and degree zero Higgs bundles on a smooth complex hyperelliptic curve $C$ of genus three. We prove that the quotient of $\mathcal{M}_{C}(2, 0)$ by a twisted version of the hyperelliptic involution is an 18-dimensional holomorphic symplectic variety admitting a crepant resolution, whose local model was studied by Kaledin and Lehn to describe O'Grady's singularities. Similarly, by considering the moduli space of Higgs bundles with trivial determinant $\mathcal{M}_C(2, \mathcal{O}_{C})\subseteq \mathcal{M}_C(2, 0)$, we show that the quotient of $\mathcal{M}_C(2, \mathcal{O}_{C})$ by the hyperelliptic involution is a 12-dimensional holomorphic symplectic variety admitting a crepant resolution.

Abstract:Given a closed symplectic manifold, we construct invariants which count (a) closed rational pseudoholomorphic curves with prescribed cusp singularities and (b) punctured rational pseudoholomorphic curves with ellipsoidal negative ends. We prove an explicit equivalence between these two frameworks, which in particular gives a new geometric interpretation of various counts in symplectic field theory. We show that these invariants encode important information about singular symplectic curves and stable symplectic embedding obstructions. We also prove a correspondence theorem between rigid unicuspidal curves and perfect exceptional classes, which we illustrate by classifying rigid unicuspidal (symplectic or algebraic) curves in the first Hirzebruch surface.

Abstract:Kähler–Einstein currents, also known as singular Kähler–Einstein metrics, have been introduced and constructed a little over a decade ago. These currents live on mildly singular compact Kähler spaces X and their two defining properties are the following: They are genuine Kähler–Einstein metrics on , and they admit local bounded potentials near the singularities of X. In this note, we show that these currents dominate a Kähler form near the singular locus, when either X admits a global smoothing, or when X has isolated smoothable singularities. Our results apply to klt pairs and allow us to show that if X is any compact Kähler space of dimension three with log terminal singularities, then any singular Kähler–Einstein metric of nonpositive curvature dominates a Kähler form.

Abstract:We study fine structural properties related to the interior regularity of $m$-dimensional area minimizing currents mod$(q)$ in arbitrary codimension. We show: (i) the set of points where at least one tangent cone is translation invariant along $m-1$ directions is locally a connected $C^{1,\beta}$ submanifold, and moreover such points have unique tangent cones; (ii) the remaining part of the singular set is countably $(m-2)$-rectifiable, with a unique flat tangent cone (with multiplicity) at $\mathcal{H}^{m-2}$-a.e. flat singular point. These results are consequences of fine excess decay theorems as well as almost monotonicity of a universal frequency function.

Rigid currents occur in complex dynamics, algebraic and differential geometry. The goals of the present paper are: (a) to give a systematic treatment of rigid currents, (b) to demonstrate how they appear within the Minimal Model Program, and (c) to give many new examples of rigid currents.

Abstract:A taming symplectic structure provides an upper bound on the area of an approximately pseudoholomorphic curve in terms of its homology class. We prove that, conversely, an almost complex manifold with such an area bound admits a taming symplectic structure. This confirms a speculation by Gromov. We also characterize the cone of taming symplectic structures numerically, prove that complex 2-cycles can be approximated by coarsely holomorphic curves, and provide a lower energy bound for such curves.

Abstract:Let dimensions $d \ge 3$ and codimensions $c \ge 3$ be positive integers, and define the exceptional set $E = \{3, 4\}$. We prove that, for $d \notin E$ with arbitrary $c$, or for $d \in E$ with $c \le d$, for any $d$-dimensional integral homology class $[\Sigma]$ on a compact (not necessarily orientable) $(d+c)$-dimensional smooth manifold $M$, there exist open sets $\Omega_{[\Sigma]}$ in the space of smooth Riemannian metrics such that all area-minimizing integral currents in $[\Sigma]$ are singular for metrics in $\Omega_{[\Sigma]}$. This resolves a conjecture by White regarding the generic regularity of area-minimizing surfaces and provides a sharp dimension-wise answer. As a corollary, we determine the moduli space of area-minimizing currents in the vicinity of any area-minimizing transverse immersion with dimension $d \ge 3$ and codimension $c \ge 3$ that satisfies an angle condition of asymptotically sharp order in $d$. Analogous conclusions apply to mod $2$ area-minimizing surfaces.

Singularity of the Spectrum for Smooth Area-Preserving Flows in Genus Two and Translation Surfaces Well Approximated by Cylinders

Abstract:We consider smooth flows preserving a smooth invariant measure, or, equivalently, locally Hamiltonian flows on compact orientable surfaces and show that, when the genus of the surface is two, almost every such locally Hamiltonian flow with two non-degenerate isomorphic saddles has singular spectrum. More in general, singularity of the spectrum holds for special flows over a full measure set of interval exchange transformations with a hyperelliptic permutation (of any number of exchanged intervals), under a roof with symmetric logarithmic singularities. The result is proved using a criterion for singularity based on tightness of Birkhoff sums with exponential tails decay. A key ingredient in the proof, which is of independent interest, is a result on translation surfaces well approximated by single cylinders. We show that for almost every translation surface in any connected component of any stratum there exists a full measure set of directions which can be well approximated by a single cylinder of area arbitrarily close to one. The result, in the special case of the stratum H ( 1 , 1 ) , yields rigidity sets needed for the singularity result.
