Abstract:This paper explores the challenges associated with teaching reading to English majors in China, concentrating on the course designated as "Comprehensive English" or "Intensive Reading". Through historical analysis and critical synthesis, it identifies two significant obstacles in the prevailing teaching approaches. First, a discrepancy is noted between the course's static positioning and the dynamically shifting educational objectives. Second, the prevailing approaches such as TBLT, CBI, and POA are found to be misaligned with the specialized educational needs of English majors, thus requiring modification to align with the academic aspirations of English as a discipline. To address the first challenge, the paper advocates a broader scope for the course, extending beyond mere language skills training to cultivate language proficiency, humanistic literacy, and establishes connections with disciplinary knowledge. For the second challenge, a refined approach is presented, assimilating strengths from both traditional and contemporary approaches, and focusing on critical concepts such as learner autonomy, the flipped classroom model, and Barrett's taxonomy of levels of understanding. This customized approach provides efficacious procedures, aligned with the academic goals of English majors, offering implications for teachers and curriculum designers engaged in English major programs in China.

Abstract:The use of whole English to teach content subjects (English medium instruction) is gaining an increasing popularity in Chinese universities. It is generally held that English proficiency is a barrier to most Chinese students. But the study of Public Relation, a course offered by a foreign professor in Fudan University reveals that those with good scores in the CET (Band 4) test can manage the immersion model. The key is persistency and confidence when difficulty arises. The efforts also should be made to change the way they think of the model, the concept of College English teaching to adapt its curriculum to the immersion model

Abstract:Seminar classes are problem-oriented and student-centered,which lay emphasis not only on learning outcomes but also learning process.The class usually starts with a problem description given by the teacher,followed by collaborative exploration of the problem by both the teacher and students,and ends with a discussion of the research report written by students to tackle the problem.Employing the methodology of action research and content analysis,the present study found that student engagement rates in seminar classes are noticeably higher than in traditional classes.What’s more,student engagement in seminar classes tends to be more indepth,usually taking the form of an analytical or evaluative comment.The present study also designs two scales to assess student engagement rates,and put forward several suggestions about how to further improve student engagement in seminar classes.

Abstract:The course Introduction to Linguistics aims at fostering students’ rational understanding of human languages, fortifying students’ linguistic and cultural awareness and critical thinking ability, and developing students’ language research awareness and interest. The article analyzes the status quo of Introduction to Linguistics teaching in some local colleges and universities in China, elaborates the application of project-based research-oriented learning to Introduction to Linguistics teaching in X University from the aspects of teaching design, teaching implementation and teaching assessment, examines its teaching effects through a case study involving students’ cognition and experience of the learning mode, the impact on students’ knowledge acquisition and ability development, and students’ evaluations about the teaching mode. The paper provides some pedagogical implications from the perspectives of teachers and students.

Abstract:Based on College English teaching (intensive reading) in Shanxi Medical College for Continuing Education,the author explores the methods of the cultural introduction,including the cultural connotation of the words, idioms, allusions, sentences and discourses, and also discusses the principles of cultural introduction, the principle of interrelation,the principle of applicability, and the principle of practicality. Abstract:Abstract Today, with China’s increasing international influence, the number of international students coming to China is increasing, and the cause of Chinese language education for foreigners is booming. Taking the multimodal theory as the guiding principle, the article establishes an immersion teaching mode for Chinese as a foreign language by analyzing the characteristics of a comprehensive elementary Chinese language course. Sixteen students from the College of International Education of University T were selected as the research subjects, and the design of teaching methods and teaching processes based on the immersion teaching model, as well as the design of a comparative experiment on the teaching of the comprehensive elementary Chinese language class were carried out. The composite mean score of the Chinese post-test scores of the class based on the immersion teaching mode was 87.89, with an overall mean score increase of 22.39 points, and the students’ grammar test scores increased by a total of 4.02 times from the 1st week to the 16th week. The mean value of students’ satisfaction with the instructional design was 4.432 points, and 89.39% of international students expressed their approval of the immersion teaching mode. Taking the multimodal theory as a guide and combining the immersion teaching mode to realize the efficient interaction between teachers and students provides a new path to improve the dChinese language mastery and cross-cultural awareness of international students in China.

Abstract:Integrating intercultural competence in foreign language classrooms has been emphasized in China, yet scant explicit guidance currently exists on how to teach intercultural competence in college English courses. This study aimed at comparing and contrasting intercultural pedagogical approaches used by instructors in English courses for non-English majors, as well as teaching feedback provided by students enrolled in such courses. This study applied a sequential exploratory mixed research design. Methods such as face-to-face interviews and teaching and learning related document analyses were utilized to collect data, and generated qualitative and quantitative data. Three-dimensional meta themes emerged in mixed analysis, categorizing pedagogical approaches and teaching styles of individual instructors. Student feedback revealed learning experiences and difficulties of the teaching approaches.

Abstract:The traditional college English intensive reading class is mostly taught by teachers, students are passive learners, and the learning atmosphere is serious and the study is inefficient, which cannot meet the high requirements of modern society for the practical knowledge and ability of contemporary college students. The traditional class education mode should now been changed. In English intensive reading class, students show negative participation or even non-participation, so the teacher has become the master of English class teaching. The communication between students and teachers in speech, behavior and emotion is not ideal, therefore, on the basis of the inability to interact, teaching becomes more boring, students are more reluctant to participate in it. To solve this problem, the author tries to analyze the internal factors that influence students’ effective participation in intensive reading class, and external factors affecting students’ effectiveness. The effective participation strategies are put forward.

Abstract:In China,Dialectics of Nature is the necessary course for all graduate students in science,technology,medicine,and agriculture.I edited a Reading in Humanities of Science for the course.In this paper,expressing my idea on editing the book,and summarizing others' experience of using the book,I suggest a mode of teaching the course,which purpose is to promote students' comprehensive scientific literacy.In my opinion,science is at its five levels,and they are separately explanation in form of knowledge,technology in form of implements,attitude and method in form of sprits,institute in form of organization,and social facet in its backgrounds and effects.I have established a framework of the contents in the teaching based on these levels,and concerned about scientific life and social life.I select the reading materials of the classics in humanities of science to fit the framework.The instructor should play a role to guide students to read analytically,expansively,and in exploring way,rather than to give lectures by the textbook.

Abstract:The existing problems of the traditional teaching modes of English teaching were explored for environmental engineering major.Five aspects of teaching methods were proposed based on the practice of the English teaching revolution and innovation,such as focus on specialty knowledge,make full use of the class hours,enrich the teaching modes,intensify oral practice,and arrange the examination form scientifically.Students were expected to improve their ability on searching information,reading and writing scientific papers,and express themselves freely during international communications in the field of environmental engineering.

Abstract:When the literature of tourism higher education is concerned, Scholars from China and abroad have had a relatively deep and broad research in the field of the characteristics of tourism theory, according to which the curriculum system and teaching methods are designed, while at the same time, there is research vacancy when we look into the field of the practical ways of successful cultivating of tourism bachelor's theory system. Thus, the article first proves the necessity of reading guidance to classics in professional curriculum of tourism higher education through theoretical analyzing of the interdisciplinary characteristics of tourism major and the human resource demands of tourism industry in China; then the empirical study and quantitative analysis of the effects and influential factors of classics reading guidance in tourism academic classes are made, according to these analysis, the article draws an conclusion that during the teaching of professional courses, the initiatives of the under-graduates to take part in the reading of classics should be attached full importance to in the syllabus; the effects of classics reading should try to be improved through the organization of specialized courses teaching; the input of students' classics reading should be strengthened by the design of the cultivating methods; and the teaching resources should be optimized to provide better environment for classics reading. Besides these suggestions, four implementation methods are also provided as the conclusion.

Abstract:PAD (Presentation-Assimilation-Discussion) is a new teaching mode put forward by Professor Zhang Xuexin of Fudan University, which has attracted the attention of academic circles in recent years and has been widely used in teaching practice in China. After personal practice in college English courses, the author believes that in order to optimize the teaching and learning effect, we need to combine this model with the “literature circle” in reading program and attach great importance to the pivotal role of peer support in the learning procedure. Only in this way can we really achieve the goal of cultivating talents with core literacy. The current study focuses on the implementation of college English teaching practice based on the PAD class and its effect compared with traditional teacher-centered classroom teaching.

Abstract:We introduce our experiment of research-oriented teaching mainly in Nanjing University and Tsinghua University, China. The great population and enrollment in China makes it worth to concern. It lasts 20 years and involves thousands of students and hundreds of instructors, consultant experts. We tried many characteristic styles such as integrated teaching and case analysis, open resources, interactive mode, course paper program, elite solutions and so on. The research on the contents is also placed on the agenda. Many students joined research works that lead to PRL, APL, Nature, Science, and Cell papers. To impart colleagues the essence we offered some examples in every session. We declare the accomplishment of the experiment through this paper and new project is programming.

Abstract:With the continuous promotion and development of Chinese around the world, increasingly foreign students come to China to learn Chinese. What they have learned is not only language skills but also the culture behind the language, because language and culture are integrated and inseparable. The purpose of this paper is to explore the teaching research of the teaching mode of using deep learning in contemporary literature courses in colleges and universities. This paper firstly introduces the distance and open education, which refers to a new type of education that uses modern teaching information technology to organize classroom teaching and deliver teaching content under the guidance of the concept of openness. The biggest difference between distance and open education and traditional education lies in the location and method of teaching. Then, the teaching of deep learning theory is explained, and the optimization algorithm of teaching and learning and the problem of education optimization are expounded. The algorithm successfully simulates the process of teachers passing professional knowledge to students and students’ self-learning professional knowledge. Finally, the teaching of modern and contemporary literature courses is investigated and analyzed. The results of this experimental survey show that more than 40% of the learners believe that modern and contemporary culture courses help to develop their Chinese communication skills. At the same time, this course will help foreign students to better master Chinese and understand China, which is beneficial and harmless. It can also change the world’s stereotype of China and shape a new image of China.

Abstract:As a main course of Chinese language and literature major in colleges, Literature Course is one of required courses for students majoring in journalism, hosting and broadcasting, which can cultivate students’ favorable humanistic quality and promote their specialty development. However, some problems exist in traditional teaching process, such as low interest in linguistics, insufficient interaction between teachers and students, and single evaluation system. Starting from Merrill’s chief teaching principle and aiming at teaching deficiencies of Literature Course, this study innovatively introduced O2O iterative project-based teaching model to establish an iterative teaching model based on online and offline integration. In combination of the question-based teaching method, four teaching steps including “construction, guidance, tutoring and introspection” were designed under the cooperation of O2O space environment and collaborative mechanism, and a brand-new implementation framework for linguistics teaching was tentatively constructed. To test the effect of this teaching mode, classification and regression tree (CART) algorithm of data mining technology was applied to compare and evaluate teachers’ teaching ability before and after the implementation of this teaching mode. It is found that, this teaching reform contributes to cultivating students’ critical thinking and innovation ability, and enhancing their academic research spirit and ability of language theory application.
