Abstract:The inquiry into the relationships of awareness with reflection is concerned with the clarification of the nature of consciousness.This paper first argues that the judgment of consciousness has to come out of the self-evidence of first-person experience,so the nature of consciousness consists in awareness and its self-awareness in first-person experiential present.Based on this argument,the paper makes a key analysis of the differences between awareness and reflection,and shows that the essence of reflection lies in,with the help of memory and language,a capability for the latter conscious events making the deposited images of the former conscious event as its experiential content.The structure of reflection is "I"-am-aware-of-that-"I-was-aware-of-X",and the very double awareness of reflection constitutes the semantic intension of the word of "know".Finally,this paper makes a brief analysis of the similarities of the demarcation between primary consciousness and higher-order consciousness by A.Damasio with the demarcation between awareness and reflective consciousness by us.

Abstract:The fundamental importance of reverence is recognized by all major world cultures. Confucianism’s account of “The three things of which the sage is in awe” is seen in Chinese culture through the value placed on reverence. “The three things of which the sage is in awe” both manifests itself as an approach to value and is also an expression of practical ethical guidance. The essential aspect of reverence is a sincere and ethical outlook; accordingly it is a part of virtue ethics. In this kind of virtue ethics, ethical practice accords with self-conscious conduct that is guided by a sense of reverence, and this forms the guiding thought of Confucianism. From a comparative cultural perspective, the Confucian sense of reverence founded upon ethical self-awareness and Christian sense of reverence founded on divine worship are different. However, both take reverence to be the root of culture, thus proving that reverence is an element that none of the world’s major cultures can be without. In the early modern period, a sense of reverence was seen something enchanted and harmful to the rational progress of civilization. However, the contemporary reenchantment movements in some ways call up a return to such reverence.

Abstract:Feng-shui theory can be seen as a part of folklore and culture in China.The key value orientation of geomantic thought is that the dwelling space of human should be harmonious with the environment.Through analyzing the Feng-shui theory and idealized model,with the example of Jingju temple and Guoqing temple,this article analyzed and discussed the Feng-shui and landscape ecology benefit of the buddhist temple garden of Tiantai Stream based on landscape ecology,and summed up the connection between Feng-shui theory and landscape ecology benefit.

Abstract:Taoism,based on Lao-tse's theory of Tao,is a unique theoretical cultural system with strong vitality and lasting influence.It is an accumulation of the traditions of Taoism culture that last for thousands of years.At present and in the future,we need to understand clearly the status of Taoism as a part of the world's culture.We oppose the western-centric globalization,as well as the arrogance of chauvinism in the eastern world.Taoism is just one facet of multi-culture.It shouldn not be seen as a new cultural pattern that has dominant influence.By applying the thoughts and theory of Taoism to international conversation,the values of our nation could make contribution to the world.Taoism shows great wisdom and remarkable effects in dealing with interpersonal problems and issues between man and himself,which also reflect its unrelenting charm and value in the modern world.

Abstract:Based on different traditional cultures,the view of life and death between ancient Chinese and westerners presents distinctive connotations.Confucianism and Taoism play an important role in ancient Chinese culture,so their interpretations on the view of life and death are representative in China.Confucianism,focusing on practicing "Three Builts",lays emphasis on realistic life in order to achieve immortality,while Taoism pays more attention to heavenly law,which is a view of natural way.On the contrary,the view on life and death in ancient western culture,starting from the perspective of "termination"(i.e.death),advocates the idea of "soul immortality".Chinese and western literary works show different situations under the influence of different views of life and death.

Abstract:This paper discusses the core ideas, development course and influence of Chinese religious philosophy and its influence on modern society. The paper first summarizes the important position of religious philosophy in Eastern and Western cultures, and then makes a detailed analysis of the core elements of Chinese religious philosophy and American religious philosophy respectively. In the part of Chinese religious philosophy, this article discusses the ideological system and ethical concepts of major sects such as Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, and analyzes the influence of these philosophical thoughts in Chinese history and social politics. In the section of American religious philosophy, the article introduces the teachings and practice of major denominations such as Christianity and Catholicism, and explores their role in American social politics and culture. Through their comparative analysis, this paper reveals the similarities and differences between Chinese religious philosophy and American religious philosophy in terms of ideological system, values and practice methods. Chinese religious philosophy emphasizes the harmony of man and nature, personal morality and social responsibility, while American religious philosophy pays more attention to the doctrines of personal freedom of belief and redemption, and the direct connection between individual and God. These similarities and differences not only reflect the deep differences between Eastern and Western cultures, but also provide an important perspective for understanding the values and behavior patterns of the two societies. Finally, this paper summarizes the roles and challenges of religious philosophy in modern society, such as promoting cultural exchanges and promoting social harmony. At the same time, the paper also discusses the possibility of the dialogue and integration of Eastern and Western religious philosophies, and puts forward the importance of promoting the exchange and mutual learning of different religious philosophies in the context of globalization. Through dialogue and integration, eastern and Western religious philosophies can learn from each other and develop together, and contribute wisdom and strength to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Abstract:Survival and death are the two most important things in life. The ancient Chinese people attached great importance to death, so the funeral ceremonies were very complete. Since its inception, Taoism has actively participated in funeral activities, so the combination of epitaphs and tomb inscriptions has a historical origin. The establishment of a unified dynasty in the Sui Dynasty provided an opportunity for the integration and development of Taoism in the north and south. The Mao Shanzong (茅山宗) in the southern region began to spread to the north, gradually integrating Lou Guan Dao (樓觀道) and becoming the mainstream of Northern Taoism. The epitaph of Wu Tong in the Sui Dynasty is engraved with rich Taoist symbols, and the epitaph text adopts the language content of “Zhen Gao” (真誥), which is a typical representative of the integration of Northern and Southern Taoism and reflects Taoism’s concern for death.

Abstract:This study compared the responses of 380 Han and 315 Tibetan respondents regarding their attitudes about death and factors influencing those attitudes using the Death Anxiety Scale and Death Attitude Profile-Revised. The results show that Tibetan respondents expressed more death anxiety, fear of death, death avoidance, and escape acceptance than the Han participants, while Han participants showed more neutral acceptance than the Tibetan participants. There was a significant interaction between age and gender around Approaching Death. In addition, the death attitudes of Han and Tibetan participants were influenced by religious beliefs, funeral experiences, and the way their families talked about death.

Abstract:Objective To discuss the influence of Christian belief to the believer's mental health.Methods The mental health status of middle-aged Christians in a city was surveyed with psychotropic symptom checklist(SCL-90)and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).14 Christian churches were investigated and 200 Christians were tested in the study group.172 effective questionnaires were called back.At the same time,240 non-religious middle-aged people who had similar background to Christians were selected as the control group,and 199 effective questionnaires were called back.Results The mental health status of middle-aged Christians was generally better than the status of non-religious middle-aged,but it was still lower than the average of domestic adults.There was no significant difference of the mental health status among Christians in different sex,different belief time,different income and participation in religious activities.The different personality types and different personality traits of middle-aged Christians had significant impacts on the mental health.Conclusions The mental health of Christian believers is influenced by the variety of factors,including personality factors more prominent.

Abstract:This essay analyzes Zhu Xi's opinions on the differences between Confucianism and Buddhism on the basis of the following three aspects:the attribute of noumenon,the concern of ethic and the way of cultivating.As to the attribute of noumenon,Zhu Xi considered that Confucianism is "one" while Buddhism "two".In the aspect of ethic concern,Zhu Xi regarded that in Confucianism ethic was endowed by the nature.However,Buddhism considered ethic as a burden and aimed to get away from it.As to the way of cultivating,Zhu Xi held that Confucianism practiced according to the natural order.On the other hand,Buddhism sought peace and calmness in mind with intention.Therefore,Buddhism and Confucianism are different in both the root and the end.Zhu Xi reached the peak of North Song dynasty's scholars' discussions on the differences between Confucianism and Buddhism.His opinions could also inspire modern Confucians.Nevertheless,Zhu Xi's misinterpretation of Buddhism in his analysis,of course,should also be noticed.

Abstract:To present the complex relationship between Christianity and modern non-Western societies, this article compares two novels from East Asia, Silence (1966) by Japanese writer Shūsaku Endō and Someone to Talk To (2009) by Chinese novelist Liu Zhenyun, that touch on themes of Christianity and cross-cultural tensions in indigenous contexts, including theodicy, suffering, and hope. Endō portrays a Japanese society through the eyes of a western Catholic priest. In comparison, Liu's literary innovation presents a possibility of missionary integration through humanly mundane details of life.
