Abstract:Mechanical design have experienced a long process of development, the improvement of design method and optimization method have always been the pursuit of any designer. In recent years, introduction of CAD/CAE have increased greatly the speed of design and experiment, making mechanical design undergo a fundamental leap. However, the whole process: design-trial-improvement, still needs manual control to complete, designers still face the problem of complex repeating process. In views of this bottleneck, we will conduct parametric modeling on complex mechanical system in PRO/E, and let key parts import into ANSYS to be flexible .Then, we will build and analyze rigid-flexible mixture virtual prototyping in automatic dynamic analysis of mechanical systems. At last, we will integrate this process in ISIGHT3.5, exploring design-trial-improvement integrated optimization and simulation method through the optimization of the size of key parts of complex mechanical system.

Abstract:Conventional geometric models couldn't meet the needs of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) of products with complex shape. In order to solve this problem, a point-based geometric model applied to CAD/CAM was put forward. The definition of point-based geometric model and its application process of CAD/CAM were presented. The geometric properties, CAD method, CAM method, and CAD/ CAM system development method of this model were studied. The CAD/CAM application of shoe last showed that point-based geometric model was superior to conventional geometric models, and could realize CAD/CAM in some special products.

Abstract:One of the technology products that have taken an important place in our lives from the past to the present is power and motion transfer elements. Power and motion transfer elements are very important for users in terms of facilitating work transfer, easing the workload based on people and ergonomics. One of the basic building blocks of these transmission systems is cam mechanisms. Cam mechanisms consisting mainly of followers and cams; It performs a complementary task by transmitting the follower's movement to the cam assembly by direct contact. While cam mechanisms lighten the work load, it is a frequently preferred system because it takes up little space and contains few parts and allows for a wide range of movements. However, sensitivity to vibration and sudden shock effects and cost problems have led to the development of manufacturing methods of cam mechanisms. In this master's thesis, design and mathematical information about cam mechanisms and cylindrical cam mechanisms are given, and the design of a cylindrical cam mechanism with a vertical multiple output limb was carried out using computer-aided drawing programs Solidworks and Autocad. The use of multiple output limb cam mechanisms is increasing day by day in terms of the width of the work area and the possibility to work with other machines. For this reason, this work is intended to be a guide resource for the reader in industry and science for both cam mechanisms and cylindrical cam mechanisms. Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic programs were used in the calculations and designs, and the design details of the mechanism were revealed with the data and formulas entered into the program.

Abstract:By use of the theoretical surface the path of the axis of the roller of space cams, the cams with cylindrical roller-followers were discussed and a conclusion that the theoretical surface and real surface are offset surfaces was derived. A simple and useful procedure used to determine the real surface was presented. This method establishes the mapping relationships among the axis of roller, the theoretical surface and real surface, and gets the simple analytical equation of the real surface. The proposed analytical model of the synthesis of offset surface can be widely used, and can satisfy the needs of CAD of cams. Compared with the conventional methods such as envelope theory and conjugating theory, this method has the features of conceptual clarity and simplicity of computation, avoiding complex solutions of the constrain equations.

Abstract:Pro/ENGINEER is a widely used CAD/CAM/CAE integrated system.Under Pro/ENGINEER,Skeleton Model can be used to complete top-down design for products and can be used to automatically create parametric models.Through the combination of Skeleton model and Program technology,the product definition and control process of modeling for parametric design of rolling bearings are studied.Then the detail steps for parametric designing rolling bearings are explained by an example.The results show that this method can achieve diversification and series design of rolling bearings and can shorten product development period greatly.

Abstract:The 3D model of whole cycloid gear is more complex and tedious,and is also inconvenient to modify.This design method establishes the 3D models of internal meshing whole cycloid spur and helical gears by using the features of whole cycloid gear,the feature modeling and parametric modeling techniques of Pro/E software.The parametric design of whole cycloid gear is realized,which can reduce the repeatability modeling of the whole cycloid gear and greatly improve the design efficiency of whole cycloid gear.It lays foundation for virtual assembly and finite element analysis of gear drive system in later period.

Abstract:Schematic design based on the representation of mechanism motion model is an important issue in product motion modeling technology, which cannot be solved well through the geometrically constrained relation based CAD systems. The motion constraint of mechanical product in terms of the definition of function unit was abstractly expressed, and a new scheme of evolutionary modeling for mechanism motion based on function semantics was proposed. The expression of function semantics, the evolutionary mode of motion constraint and the synthesis technology of mechanism motion were presented, which enabled the designer specified function relations easily via abstract semantics during evolutionary modeling for mechanism motion. The evolutionary relationship between function constraint and mechanism combination constraint was established to transfer motion intent from semantics layer to geometric constraint layer. This model combined function semantics and transform evolution process of motion function to map and translate designer's functional intent. Furthermore, the new method was applied successfully to the modeling of some projects, and results showed the utility, flexibility and robust of the new technology.

Abstract:To facilitate the manufacturing of an end mill, this paper presents a manufacturing model of a flat-end mill using a five-axis computer numerical control (CNC) grinding machine. Using input data of end mill geometry, wheels geometry, wheel setting and machine setting, the NC code for machining will be generated directly from a solid modeling then used as input to simulate the end mill machining in 3 Dimension before machining. The 3D simulation system of the end mill grinding is generated by VBA and AutoCAD2008. Machining simulation consists of a sequence of Boolean operations on difference between the tool and the grinding wheels through NC code. Then the major design parameters of a cutter, such as relief angle and inner radius, can be verified by interrogating the section profile of its solid model. The manufacturing model presented in this paper provides a practical and efficient method for developing CAM software for the manufacture of an end mill.

Abstract:The whirl-machining process is a precise, efficient, and promising machine process for manufacturing workpieces over the milling process. At the same time, the roller-gear cam has advantages over the other cam-follower system. However, the whirl-machining process has not been applied to manufacture the roller-gear cam. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel method for roller-gear cam manufacturing using a whirl-machining process. Mathematical modeling is described for generating the roller-gear cam, roller, and whirl-milling tool surface. A novel CNC machine and its coordinate system are proposed. Cutting simulations for obtaining the surface topologies and normal deviations are conducted. Globoidal cam with different cylindrical rollers, globoidal cam with a conical roller, and cylindrical cam with a conical roller are taken as case studies, and results are discussed. A virtual cutting simulation was conducted using VERICUT. Some machining examples are shown to verify the benefits of the proposed method in roller-gear cam manufacturing.

Abstract:A two circular-arc cam mechanism is a special kind of constant-breadth cam. At the junction point of each cam contour, a mutation of the curvature radius may be produced, which affects the motion performance of the mechanism, especially its jerk performance at high speed. Based on a proposed motion model, the follower movements of the constant-breadth two circular-arc cam mechanism with an inclined flat-faced follower are analyzed. Bezier Curve is proposed to fit the driving law of the cam mechanism, while variable speed law is adopted to drive the cam mechanism motion, thus reducing motion characteristic value (AV)max (i.e., the maximum value of the velocity multiplied by acceleration for the follower’s motion law of the cam mechanism at the same motion time point) and the jerk of the follower. In this paper, the establishment of the optimization objective functions and constraint conditions, and the control node selections of the cam drive function are researched. The optimization results are obtained by using the primary objective method. The results of a test case calculation and simulation show that, the optimized drive function, according to the variable motor speed, can significantly reduce the value of (AV)max of the follower, while the jerks of the follower system are also reduced considerably. More precisely, the (AV)max value is reduced by 11.63% and the jerks are reduced on average by 15.35%, at the three jerk positions. The proposed methods provide a new approach to improving the kinematic performance of similar cam mechanisms.

Abstract:The cam-linkage mechanism is a typical transmission mechanism in mechanical science and is widely used in various automated production equipment. However, conventional modeling methods mainly focus on the design and dimensional synthesis of the cam-linkage mechanism in the slow-speed scenario. The influence of component dimensions is not taken into consideration. As a result, the model accuracy dramatically falls when analyzing large-size cam-linkage mechanisms, especially in high-speed environments. The kinematic aspects of cam design have been investigated, but there are few studies discussing the motion characteristic and accuracy analysis models of the large-size cam-linkage mechanism under high-speed scenarios. To handle such issues, this paper proposes a parameter optimization methodology for the design analysis of the large-size high-speed cam-linkage mechanism considering kinematic performance. Firstly, the mathematical model of the cam five-bar mechanism is presented. The cam curve and motion parameters are solved forward with linkage length and output speed. Then, a particle swarm-based multi-objective optimization method is developed to find the optimal structure parameters and output speed curve to minimize cam pressure angle and roller acceleration and maximize linkage mechanism drive angle. A Monte Carlo-based framework is put forward for the reliability and sensitivity analysis of kinematic accuracy. Finally, a transverse device of a sanitary product production line is provided to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method. With the parameter optimization, the productivity of the transverse device is doubled, from 600 pieces per minute (PPM) to 1200 PPM.

Optimization and Modeling of a Spatial CAM Mechanism for a Two-Dimensional Plunger Electro-Hydraulic Pump

Abstract:Traditional cam movements in piston pumps follow a non-stopping motion law, resulting in insufficient smoothness in plunger stroke changes. Consequently, this directly impacts the theoretical flow rate of the pump. To address this issue, describes the transition curve of the non-stopping motion law is constructed in this study by using a fivefold B-spline curve. The maximum uncaused velocity and acceleration are considered optimization parameters. Multi-objective optimization of the motion law is conducted using a genetic algorithm, resulting in the generation of a Pareto solution set. Compared to the modified equivalent acceleration (MEA) motion law, the B-spline combined motion law leads to a reduction of 1.39% and 0.86% in the maximum velocity and acceleration characteristic values, respectively. Furthermore, by employing the principle of a single-parameter surface envelope, a mathematical model of the cam surface is developed. The obtained data points are then solved using the double-three times B-spline cam surface interpolation algorithm. Subsequently, the interpolation result is translated into a cam surface model file based on the data structure of the IGES file.The optimization results demonstrate that compared to equal acceleration and deceleration motion laws, the B-spline optimization curve achieves a seamless transition. Specifically, the maximum pressure angle decreases from 27.98° to 19.92°, and the minimum radius of curvature decreases from 9.94 mm to 7.44 mm, validating the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. Experimental displacement tests are conducted on the spatial cam mechanism, revealing that the cam design process has been streamlined, and the designed spatial cam exhibits enhanced fitting performance.

Abstract:In order to improve the accuracy of a solar-powered punch card car's movement on a designated route and reduce positional deviations during its operation, a solar-powered punch card car with a single cam as the steering guidance mechanism was designed. The car adopts a three-wheel structure. The transmission mechanism, steering mechanism, driving mechanism, and regulating mechanism of the car were analyzed. The kinematics model of the car was established and the motion characteristics of the car were obtained. By analyzing the relationship between the steering angle of the car and the curvature radius of its travel route, the front wheel angle of the car at each position was calculated using MATLAB R2020a. This allowed us to establish the relationship between the front wheel angle and the displacement of the steering push rod, which was further converted into the theoretical contour line of the cam. Subsequently, the theoretical contour line of the cam was completed and envelope correction was performed. Finally, through mechanical analysis and experimental verification using a prototype, the results indicated that the single-cam steering guidance mechanism calculated using this fast path fitting method exhibited excellent mechanical performance and a smooth and accurate trajectory, and the traveling path of the theoretical cam contour curve was basically consistent with the actual trajectory route.

Abstract:To solve the practical application of direct measurement in accordance with the cam production generated by the processing of error,the paper brings forward a method that is based on curve smoothing and the three-dimensional drawing software——Pro/E to assist the reverse design of the conjugated cams.This method first eliminates the bad points by analysing the curvature,then smooths the main Cam's curve by polynomial fitting,in the end,uses Pro/E's motional simulation module to create the vice-cam.It avoids the error by calculating the vice-cam's contour line.
