Abstract:Jiang Yan, who is a poet and writer of Cifu, occupies an important position in the literary history of Southern Dynasty. Academic and biographical works on whom gave more attentions and studies his thought relative overlooked. Jiang Yan's thought includes the Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism which are melted into one. The Confucianism thought is the core of his thought, which passes through his life and becomes the most radical and important guiding ideology, and his Confucianism thought is very flexible, which is the reflection of the turmoil restless time in Southern and Northern Dynasties. And Jiang Yan takes Taoism thought and Buddhism thought which attaches to the Taoism thought as auxiliary.

Abstract:The predecessors' estimation of JIANG Yan's varied Imatation Poems laid stress on his concept of literature criticism.The article indicates the development of archaistic and ancient meaning poetry.In every respect,including subject matter,synthetical image,structure,manifestation mode and style of pronunciation,this poetry systematically embodied Jiang Yan's cognition in the meaning,structure,body source of represented poets' five-character poems from the Han and Wei Dynasties.So it formed the idea of historical-poet that poetry changed with the years and developed with writers and theme.Its significance lies in reflecting gradually clear differentiated style awareness.It also summarized the poetry character of the five-character poems with refined form.It offered reflection on the large change of the approach in five-character poems' style and sentiment in Qi and Liang Dynasties.

Abstract:Jun Style refers to the language characteristics of Wu Jun’s but not to the characteristics of its subject matter. Jun Style pursues innovation and strangeness with exterior primitive simplicity, which is different from the contemporary ancient interest, as ancient style is just its appearance, and strange style is its inner individuality. Meanwhile, Jun Style is also different from the mainstream of contemporary poetry language which was growing to recent style poetry, not only owing to its ancient style, but also owing to its strangeness against the balance and harmony of YongMing Style.

Abstract:In 1930, Japanese Sinologist Xibei Xiantang constructed the cultural image of Suzhou from the three levels of material, history and symbol in his book The Journey of Jiangnan Poetry.On the material level, the “Jiangnan narrative” of Xibei Xiangtang is the urban state of Suzhou under the atmosphere and aesthetic experience,and the water town travel with blurred light and shadow.At the historical level, the fine shell sweet pond shows the “historical” Suzhou through the “historical” description of the landscape.At the symbolic level, the poetic nature of Jiangnan is reflected in the pictorial, ruins and poetic nature, constructing a Suzhou with symbolic significance.However, Xibei xiangtang often reveals dissatisfaction with the social reality of China, and reveals irony to China’s modern exploration and the so-called cultural inferiority.Fine shell fragrant pond “Chinese interest” on the one hand, immersed in the reality of Suzhou landscape experience, and the historical “jiangnan” landscape reveals appreciation, but on the other hand reveals the contempt for “decadent China”, is a kind of mixed “view” of China, fine shell fragrant pond narrative also reflects the characteristics of “orientalism”.

Abstract:Jin Yongs short story Cloud of The Moon is an autobiographical novel published in 2000.Yi Guan,hero of this novel,sincerely treats Yue Yun who is his maid in his childhood,and there is an indistinct "master-maid" love between them.This work reveals the remembrance of south of the Yangtze River-Jiang Nan complex,which can be seen as the origin of advocating the thoughts of equality and philanthropy,a type of love relationships between a male with more females,different descriptive styles of south of the Yangtze River and other areas in Jin Yong’s later fictions.Through recollecting his childhood experiences,the author makes some self-interpretations for his martial arts fictions and life path.This novel is a window to look through Jin Yong himself and his works.

Abstract:Since the 1980s, the author of Hundred Years of Solitude has become a great idol and a constant source of the "anxiety of influence" (as phrased by Harold Bloom) for an entire generation of Chinese writers, including Jia Pingwa, Yu Hua, Su Tong, Yan Lianke, Ma Yuan and Mo Yan. The paper proposes a parallel reading between Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Mo Yan, the Chinese Nobel laureate, in order to demonstrate that the Latin American magical realism and its adventure in China has formed part of Chinese contemporary literature history. Not only has the magical realism revived the memory of these Chinese writers and pushed them to adopt a new attitude regarding their own history, but it has also shown them a way of writing new novels.

Abstract:As Liu Shilin points out that the northern vernacular nurtures the Chinese nation's ability to put its morality in practice while the dialect to the south of the Yangtze nurtures the aesthetic spirit for this ancient nation celebrated for its pragmatism. This southern dialect is a special metanarration carrying out the aesthetic function in Chinese poetic discourse system. To bring out the south of the Yangtze as it is to the current world, the only approach is a kind of the language ontology consciousness. As Xu Yanping points out that the work to portrait the old families that were distinguished for learning and literature has just begun and waits for further research that must be based on sorting of such documents as the works and family trees in the Qing Dynasty. Only after we find out the differences between these old families known for literary creation (for example the Zhas' in Haining, and the Yus' in Deqing) and think over a problem from multi-angles, can we work out the spectacle of these families in detail. As Zhu Yining points out, in history of cultural development the late Tang dynasty and immediately after is a very important historical period, because it is in this period that remarkable phenomena and personages emerged and the spirit in this region began to change. From then on, the South has become the symbol of Chinese poetic culture in place of the North. Geng Bo believes that in Ming and Qing dynasties, in the context of city culture to the south of the Yangtze, the relationship between intellectuals become that of organized mutual help. The intellectuals shared information with and offered support to each other, establishing a community so as to survive the logic produced by the city culture. The delicate and hard mentality of the intellectuals to reconcile individualism and pursuit of truth in the city cultural context was the most poetic factor in the city culture. The mind of the intellectuals was not only romantic but also subtle. It differs from the romanticism in the western Renaissance in its depth.
The Strange Style of Writing:Another Side of the Classical Prose Movement in Ancient China

Abstract:Some works on the classical prose movement in the Tang and Song dynasties have painted the "strange style of writing" in a negative light. This style covers the strange writing style of the mid-Tang era and,in the Song dynasty,the radical style of the early Song,the variant of this style in the Jingyou reign period,the new writing style of the Imperial College during the Qingli reign period,the Imperial College during the Jiayou reign period,and then the so-called jing yi (Confucian classics argumentation) during the Xining reign period. This paper attempts to explore and prove that the reasons for the existence of this strange style of writing lay in the conflict between the rising literati group and the subjects of the imperial examinations. We also seek to explore the implications of the radical thought associated with this style of writing by incorporating the rise of different schools of thought during the Qingli era and analyzing the development of Neo-Confucianism. We further attempt to explore the relationship between ancient prose and Neo-Confucianism by analyzing mainstream thinkers' criticism of the decline of prose of Ouyang Xiu. In generally,we hope to provide a well-rounded picture of the classical prose movement.

Abstract:AbstrcatIn Ming and Song Dynasties, Neo-Confucianism laid a foundation on Northern Song Dynasty, produced great influence on literature thought and literature creation. After the Mongols eliminated Jin Dynasty, Neo-Confucianism was dveloped in the North, and then influenced literature directly. After this, this kind of influence had being extended all with Neo-Confucianism. The family had a relation between teachers and friends for the majority, some poetic prose writers themselves were Neo-Confucianism. If we understand the texts further, we can find out a great deal of marks relating to the Neo-Confucianism in lots of poetic and prose works.

Abstract:Wang Furen holds the view that the reappraisal of Yan’an Literature in the new century is not to habitually treat it as the ultimate form of the development of contemporary Chinese literature, but to re-experience and rethink it from a higher point of view with full regard to the new developments in the field of studies on contemporary Chinese literature after the Cultural Revolution. Zhu Hongzhao argues that as contrasted with the conceptually accepted “Tradition of Yan’an Literature” is its counterpart in practice. Yuan Shengyong regards Yan’an Literature at the later stage, instead of Yan’an Literature as a whole, as the immediate theoretical source and literary resources in the development of contemporary Chinese literature during 1949—1976. To inquire into the original form of Yan’an Literature in the new historical context is to confront its complexity and treat it as an important point of departure for further study in this area.

Abstract:Full of innovative consciousness in both thinking and writing skills,Idle Talk Under the Bean Arbor is an excellent work in the ealy Qing Dynasty.The very expression the Bean Arbor suggests the natural traits and cultural elements in the area of Jiangnan.Its criticism of the fourflushers in Su Zhou reveals the circumstance and human relationship in this specific district of Jiang Nan from another perspective,while the story of Xishi reflects the tradition of Jiang Nan culture.All these cultural factors in local conditions,social customs and history build an indissoluble bond between Idle Talk Under the Bean Arbor and Jiang Nan culture.Hopefully new clues or reference about its still unknown author and writing backgroud may be found through a meticulous examination on Jiang Nan culture.

Abstract:Xu Zhaohua is generally recognized as the standard-bearer of feminine literature prevalent in the south of the Yangtse River during the Qing Dynasty.This paper aims to reconstruct her literary life and analyzes those poems collected in Huanxiang'ge Yi Gao but not included in Xu Du Jiang Shi.It is also argued that the poetess should not be thought of as belonging to the female literary group surnamed Qi.

Abstract:From the perspective of poetic thoughts,the main stream of the poetry of the Song Dynasty is the poetic thoughts of Jiangxi school of poetry.The represeatatives of Jiangxi school of poetry,Huang Tingjian and some others ,held some similar ideas to the Neo-Confucianism on poetry .And the influence of the Neo-Confucianism was increasing gradually; so the two theories well coordinated.Meanwhile a few chief members of Jiangxi school of poetry were Neo-Confucianists, whose works include the philosophy of Neo-Confucianism.From the above ,a conclusion may be drawn: the spiritual core of Jiangxi school of poetry is Neo-Confucianism of the Song and Ming Dynasties .

Abstract:Poetics was compiled by Confucius'disciples who have attended his lectures on Poetry. Most prob ably it should be Zi Xia according to relative reference books. Dwelling upon th is problem now, one can discern that though there is ideological inheritance amo ng Poetics, Preface to Poetry, and Mao Zhuan , there is considerable difference, especially regarding to Guan Ju and other six articles. Instead of being written by Zi Xia himself,Preface to Poetry is the product of the systematic research on Poetry starting from Zi Xia. Nevertheless, both Preface to Poetry and Mao Zhuan represent similarities with Poetics, which is of great importance for us to recognize the inh eritance of Poetics study.

Abstract:In his manuscript Rong An Guan Zha Ji,Qian Zhongshu offers harsh criticism upon Xu Yueqing,the Neo-Confucian poet of the late Song dynasty.His critical remarks contain abundant poetic thoughts.With reference to the interrelated contents in Tan Yi Lu,Song shi Xuan zhu and Guan zhui Bian,we can interpretate the connotation of Mr.Qian's remarks.Meanwhile,we should also probe into Mr.Qian's brilliant views on the relationship among Neo-Confucianism,moral integrity,and the poetry of the late Song dynasty,and thus reexamine the position of such elements as Neo-Confucianism and moral integrity in Mr.Qian's poetry evaluation system.

Abstract:The Shuzhuang Poetry Club was a Taiwanese literary organization thriving during the Period of Japan Occupying Taiwan.It shared the poetic tradition with the Min School of Genre,and accepted the latter's literary ideals.Moreover,Chen Yan,a representative of the Min School of Tongguang Genre, was revered by the Club as the spiritual leader.It shows that the Taiwanese literature during this period accepted consciously the culture of motherland.
