Abstract:Some representative preparation methods for quantum dots,which include precipitation,sol-gel,solvo-thermal method,the application in the biomedicine,material-science,etc were summarized in this paper.Quantum Dots can also be called semiconductor nanocrystal.It consists of Ⅱ-Ⅵ or Ⅲ-Ⅴ cluster elements,and a kind of nanocrystal with the dimension of 1～100nm.It has the properties of stability and dissolubility.Present,semiconductor quantum dots have received more and more attention in different fields.Their content not only relates to physics and chemistry but also already becomes an cross-subject.As a streamlined fluorescence material,they have many advantages compared to traditional organic dye,and the abundant color is the most virtue.They can be used as fluorescence probe in the organism system.Beacause of these excellent opitics characteristics,quantum dots have wide application in biochemistry,molecular biology,drug screening and so on.

Abstract:Quantum dots (QDs) are a kind of semiconductor nanopaticles with the radius equal to or less than the exciton Bohr radius. They have tremendous potential in the field of biology and medicine because of their unique and tunable optical properties (broad excitation spectrum, narrow emission spectrum, precise tunability of their emission peak and negligible bleaching, etc) as new fluoresent probes. Recently, because of their superiority in sensitivity, a new method based on them is introduced to analysis, and made great progress in the quantitative analysis. Here the applications of QDs in the assay of metal ions, some drugs and compounds, as well as the current research progress are reviewed according to the advanced works worldwide.

Abstract:Semiconductor quantum dots(QDs) are new inorganic fluorophores that are currently being investigated for use as luminescent biological probes in biology due to its unique optical properties.The fluorescence excitation and emission properties,quantum yield,photobleaching characteristic and fluorescence lifetime of quantum dots are described in detail.Particularly,this review summarizes the recent advances of quantum dots in developmental biological applications,which mainly include cellular labeling,in vivo animal and tissue imaging,multiplexed assaying and photodynamic therapy.Moreover,the potential toxicity and challenges of quantum dots in biological application are discussed.Finally,the future prospects for promising applications of quantum dots in biology are also briefly presented.

Abstract:More and more attention has been drawn on nano-materials in the application of molecular imaging and targeted cancer therapy. Quantum dots, due to their rich surface chemical properties and bright stable fluorescence, have been used as a new type of nano-probes and widely used in molecular, cellular and vivo biological imaging. In recent years, many inspiring achievements have been obtained in the study on quantum dots surface modification and biological imaging in cell and animals. In this article, current status and the latest developments of the study and the application are reviewed.

Abstract:Quantum dots (QDs) are a group of semiconducting nanomaterials with unique optical and electronic properties. They have distinct advantages over traditional fluorescent organic dyes in chemical and biological studies in terms of tunable emission spectra, signal brightness, photostability, and so forth. Currently, themajor type of QDs is the heavymetal-containing II-IV, IV-VI, or III-V QDs. Silicon QDs and conjugated polymer dots have also been developed in order to lower the potential toxicity of the fluorescent probes for biological applications. Aqueous solubility is the common problem for all types of QDs when they are employed in the biological researches, such as in vitro and in vivo imaging. To circumvent this problem, ligand exchange and polymer coating are proven to be effective, besides synthesizing QDs in aqueous solutions directly. However, toxicity is another big concern especially for in vivo studies. Ligand protection and core/shell structure can partly solve this problem. With the rapid development of QDs research, new elements and new morphologies have been introduced to this area to fabricate more safe and efficient QDs for biological applications.

Abstract:Quantum dots (QDs), a type of nanoparticles, have displayed promising applications within many scientific fields. A QD is a nanoscale semiconductor particle with unique quantum mechanical properties. These tiny structures, typically ranging from 1 to 10 nanometers in diameter, exhibit distinct electronic and optical behaviors due to their size-dependent quantum confinement effects. Their applications improve upon quality, energy consumption, and efficiency in LEDs, batteries, catalysts, solar energy, and more. This review article goes over the fundamentals of nanochemistry as a whole, before proceeding into more in-depth procedures on synthesizing quantum dots and delving into various applications today. The key points of this article are to introduce scholars who are new to the field of quantum dots in the fundamentals of quantum chemistry before elaborating on the improvements quantum dots have brought to many fields. This article covers in-depth enough to grasp most concepts behind these applications, but as a whole, this field is still relatively new, in which case new applications and improvements of quantum dots can be found. In the future, quantum dots may become a key to advancing society, with possible applications in medicinal processes, more efficient energy storage, better energy generation, and quantum computing, in addition to what QDs already improved within those fields.

Abstract:As newly developed fluorescence labels,compare to the traditional organic fluorescent dyes,the semiconductor quantum dots(QDs) are of many advantages,such as broaden and continuous excitation,narrower and more symmetric emission,photochemical stability,longer fluorescence lifetime,higher quantum yield and lower biological toxicity,and so on.These properties make quantum dots(QDs) unique and superior in the applications of cell labeling and tracking and imaging in vivo.It was widely applied in many areas of life science.It breaks through many defects,such as fluorescence performance and biological toxicity,compared to the traditional organ-ic fluorescent dyes.The application of quantum dots(QDs) has greatly promoted the research work of ultra-sensitive,in situ,real-time and dynamic bio-tracking and bio-imaging in life sciences.In this paper,the fluorescent properties of quantum dots and the application of cell labeling and tracking imaging in vivo are reviewed,and the prospects in Fluorescence in situ hybridization,flow cytometry,Re-al-time quantitative fluorescence PCR are envisioned.

Abstract:It is the unique size-dependent band gap of quantum dots (QDs) that makes them so special in various applications. They have attracted great interest, especially in optoelectronic fields such as light emitting diodes and photovoltaic cells, because their photoluminescent characteristics can be significantly improved via optimization of the processes by which they are synthesized. Control of their core/shell heterostructures is especially important and advantageous. However, a few challenges remain to be overcome before QD-based devices can completely replace current optoelectronic technology. This Special Issue provides detailed guides for synthesis of high-quality QDs and their applications. In terms of fabricating devices, tailoring optical properties of QDs and engineering defects in QD-related interfaces for higher performance remain important issues to be addressed.
Luminescent Characteristics and Applied Research Progress of II-VI Semiconductor Quantum Dots

Abstract:Semiconductor quantum dots have great practical value because of their unique optical characteristics. In this paper, the luminescent principle and properties of semiconductor quantum dots were introduced combining with our work about this aspect. In the experiments, it was found that the luminescent stability of the core/shell structural semiconductor quantum dots CdSe/CdS was enhanced in comparison with the bare CdSe quantum dots, and the absorption and emission spectra of the CdSe/CdS quantum dots shifted to the longer wavelength. It was also observed that the different sized semiconductor quantum dots showed different colors, and the absorption and emission spectra shifted to the longer wavelength as the size of the quantum dots increased. Particularly, the progress and applications of semiconductor quantum dots in optoelectronic devices and biomedicine were reviewed, and the perspective of the development was viewed.

Abstract:Luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals, also known as quantum dots (QDs), are generally composed of II-VI and III-V elements. Due to their quantum confinement of charge carriers in tiny spaces, QDs show some unique and fascinating optical properties, and are characterized as sharp and symmetrical emission spectra, high quantum yields, broad absorption spectra, good chemical and photo-stability and size dependent emission wavelength tunability. Recently, QDs have been successfully used as new fluorescent tags in many biological and biomedical fields, and will become a new promising tool in biomedical studies, clinical diagnostics, drug delivery and photodynamic therapy. In this review, firstly, the methodology of QDs preparation was introduced, which included organic synthesis, aqueous synthesis and microwave assisted aqueous synthesis. Secondly, some procedures for the QDs bio-conjugation with biomarkers were described. And then, some key applications of QDs were summarized, which mainly covered biomedical imaging, immunoassay, DNA hybridization, and photodynamic therapy. Finally, future prospects were discussed.

Abstract:Quantum dots (QDs) have sparked great interest due to their unique electronic, optical, and structural properties. In this review, we provide a critical analysis of the latest advances in the synthesis, properties, and applications of QDs. We discuss synthesis techniques, including colloidal and hydrothermal synthesis, and highlight how the underlying principles of these techniques affect the resulting properties of QDs. We then delve into the wide range of applications of QDs, from QDs based color conversion, light-emitting diodes and biomedicine to quantum-based cryptography and spintronics. Finally, we identify the current challenges and future prospects for quantum dot research. By reading this review, readers will gain a deeper understanding of the current state-of-the-art in QDs research and the potential for future development.
