Abstract:Dong and Dow′s comments on Lin′s article are motivated by the implications of MacLeod′s papers. However, they fail to see that MacLeod deals with the case where a worker has the incentive to shirk and quit a cooperative, whereas Lin deals with the case where a worker has the incentive to shirk and stay. Moreover, the results of their model are based on two unwarranted assumptions about the utility function. Kung′s first comment confuses a necessary condition with a sufficient condition in a hypothesis, and his interpretation of historical evidence in the second comment is inconsistent with his own account.
