Abstract:Let $X$ be a terminal weak $\bQ$-Fano threefold. We prove that $P_{-6}(X)>0$ and $P_{-8}(X)>1$. We also prove that the anti-canonical volume has a universal lower bound $-K_X^3 \geq 1/330$. This lower bound is optimal.

Abstract:By a canonical (resp. terminal) weak $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano $3$-fold we mean a normal projective one with at worst canonical (resp. terminal) singularities on which the anti-canonical divisor is $\mathbb{Q}$-Cartier, nef and big. For a canonical weak $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano $3$-fold $V$, we show that there exists a terminal weak $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano $3$-fold $X$, being birational to $V$, such that the $m$-th anti-canonical map defined by $|-mK_{X}|$ is birational for all $m\geq 52$. As an intermediate result, we show that for any $K$-Mori fiber space $Y$ of a canonical weak $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano $3$-fold, the $m$-th anti-canonical map defined by $|-mK_{Y}|$ is birational for all $m\geq 52$.

Abstract:Let X be a Gorenstein minimal projective 3-fold with at worst locally factorial terminal singularities. Suppose the canonical map is of fiber type. Denote by F a smooth model of a generic irreducible element in fibers of phi(1), and so F is a curve or a smooth surface. The main result is that there is a computable constant K independent of X such that g(F) less than or equal to 647 or p(g)(F) less than or equal to 38 whenever p(g)(X) greater than or equal to K.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a partial affirmative answer to the BAB conjecture for $3$-folds in characteristic $p>5$. Specifically, we prove that a set $\mathcal{D}$ of weak Fano $3$-folds over an uncountable algebraically closed field is bounded, if each element $X \in \mathcal{D}$ satisfies certain conditions regarding the Gorenstein index, a complement and Kodaira type vanishing. In the course of the proof, we also study a uniform lower bound for Seshadri constants of nef and big invertible sheaves on projective $3$-folds.

Optimal upper bounds for anti-canonical volumes of singular toric Fano varieties

Abstract:Fix two positive integers $d\geq3$ and $q$. We give an upper bound for anti-canonical volumes of $d$-dimensional $\frac{1}{q}$-lc toric Fano varieties, which corresponds to an upper bound for the dual normalized volumes of the associated $d$-dimensional $\frac{1}{q}$-lc Fano polytopes. And we also construct examples to show that these upper bounds are optimal. Besides, we provide an optimal upper bound for volumes of $d$-dimensional lattice simplices $S$ such that $\frac{1}{q}S$ has exactly one interior lattice point.

The method heavily relies on both a Noether type of inequality and a Miyaoka-Yau inequality and that is the reason we only treat a Gorenstein object here. It is open whether the degree of the canonical map is universally bounded when the canonical map is generically finite.

On explicit bounds of Fano threefolds

Abstract:In this paper, we study the explicit geometry of threefolds, in particular, Fano varieties. We find an explicitly computable positive integer $N$, such that all but a bounded family of Fano threefolds have $N$-complements. This result has many applications on finding explicit bounds of algebraic invariants for threefolds. We provide explicit lower bounds for the first gap of the $\mathbb R$-complementary thresholds for threefolds, the first gap of the global lc thresholds, the smallest minimal log discrepancy of exceptional threefolds, and the volume of log threefolds with reduced boundary and ample log canonical divisor. We also provide an explicit upper bound of the anti-canonical volume of exceptional threefolds. While the bounds in this paper may not and are not expected to be optimal, they are the first explicit bounds of these invariants in dimension three.

Optimal Degenerations of K-unstable Fano threefolds

Abstract:We explicitly determine the optimal degenerations of Fano threefolds $X$ in family No 2.23 of Mori-Mukai's list as predicted by the Hamilton-Tian conjecture. More precisely, we find a special degeneration $(\mathcal{X}, \xi_0)$ of $X$ such that $(\mathcal{X}_0, \xi_0)$ is weighted K-polystable, which is equivalent to $(\mathcal{X}_0, \xi_0)$ admitting a Kähler-Ricci soliton (KRS) by \cite{HL23} and \cite{BLXZ23}. Furthermore, we study the moduli spaces of $(\mathcal{X}_0, \xi_0)$. The $\mathbf{H}$-invariant of $X$ divides the natural parameter space into two strata, which leads to different moduli spaces of KRS Fano varieties. We show that one of them is isomorphic to the GIT-moduli space of biconic curves $C\subseteq \mathbb{P}^1\times \mathbb{P}^1$, and the other one is a single point.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We prove $P_{12}(V)>0$ and $P_{24}(V)>1$ (which answers an open problem of J. Kollar and S. Mori). We also prove that the canonical volume has an universal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V) \geq 1/2660$ and that the pluri-canonical map $\Phi_m$ is birational onto its image for all $m\geq 77$. As an application of our method, we prove Fletcher's conjecture on weighted hyper-surface 3-folds with terminal quotient singularities. Another featured result is the optimal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/420}$ among all those 3-folds $V$ with $\chi({\mathcal O}_V)\leq 1$.

Abstract:We prove that, for a spherical Fano threefold not in the Mori-Mukai family 2-29, and a weight function associated with the action of the connected center of a Levi subgroup of its automorphism group, weighted K-polystability is equivalent to vanishing of the weighted Futaki invariant. This is surprising since unlike the case of toric Fano manifold, there exist non-product, special, equivariant test configurations. For the Kähler-Einstein Fano threefold 2-29, and for well-chosen torus action on the three dimensional quadric, we show that this property is false and exhibit explicit examples of weighted optimal degenerations. We then generalize this to higher-dimensional quadrics and blowups of quadrics along a codimension 2 subquadric.

Optimal bound for singularities on Fano type fibrations of relative dimension one

Abstract:Let $\pi:X\rightarrow Z$ be a Fano type fibration with $\dim X-\dim Z=d$ and let $(X,B)$ be an $\epsilon$-lc pair with $K_X+B\sim_{\RR} 0/Z$. The canonical bundle formula gives $(Z,B_Z+M_Z)$ where $B_Z$ is the discriminant divisor and $M_Z$ is the moduli divisor which is determined up to $\RR$-linear equivalence. Shokurov conjectured that one can choose $M_Z\geq 0$ such that $(Z,B_Z+M_Z)$ is $\delta$-lc where $\delta$ only depends on $d,\epsilon$. Very recently, this conjecture was proved by Birkar \cite{Bir23}. For $d=1$ and $\epsilon=1$, Han, Jiang and Luo \cite{HJL22} gave the optimal value of $\delta=1/2$. In this paper, we give the optimal value of $\delta$ for $d=1$ and arbitrary $0<\epsilon\leq 1$.

Abstract:The first aim of this paper is to construct a $13$-dimensional affine variety $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ related with $\mathbb{P}^{2}\times\mathbb{P}^{2}$-fibration. It is well-known that the affine cone of the Segre embedded $\mathbb{P}^{2}\times\mathbb{P}^{2}$ is defined as the null loci of the so called $\sharp$-mapping of a 9-dimensional nondegenerate quadratic Jordan algebra $J$ of a cubic form. Inspired with this fact, we construct $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ in the same way coordinatizing $J$ with 8 parameters. We derive such a coordinatization of $J$ using fixed three complementary primitive idempotents and the associated Peirce decomposition of $J$. The second aim of this paper is to construct complex prime $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano $3$-folds of anti-canonical codimension 4 as weighted complete intersections of appropriate weighted projectivizations of $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ or its subvarieties (possibly allowing some coordinates with weight $0$). The affine variety $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ and such weighted projectivizations of $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ are called key varieties for prime $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano 3-folds. We show that a prime $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano 3-fold of genus $3$ with three $\frac{1}{2}(1,1,1)$-singularities belonging to the class of No.5.4 as in [Tak1] is constructed from one weighted projectivization of $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ such that all the coordinates have positive weights. Conversely, we also show that any such a prime $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano 3-fold is obtained in this way. Moreover, relating $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ with the $C_{2}$-cluster variety constructed by Coughlan and Ducat [CD1], we show that weighted projectivizations of $\mathscr{H}_{\mathbb{A}}^{13}$ or its subvarieties are key varieties for prime $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano 3-folds belonging to 108 classes in the online database [GRDB].
