Abstract:We prove an optimal Kawamata-Miyaoka type inequality for terminal $\mathbb Q$-Fano threefolds with Fano index $\geq 3$. As an application, we obtain that any terminal $\mathbb Q$-Fano threefold $X$ satisfies the following Kawamata-Miyaoka type inequality \[ c_1(X)^3 < 3c_2(X)c_1(X). \]

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to prove the validity of an optimized Kawamata - Miyaoka - type inequality for terminal Q - Fano three - folds with Fano index ≥ 3. Specifically, the main results of the paper are as follows: **Theorem 1.2**: Let \(X\) be a terminal Q - Fano three - fold, and \(q_Q(X)\geq3\). Then: \[c_1(X)^3\leq\frac{121}{41}c_2(X)c_1(X)\] and the equality holds if and only if \(X\) is isomorphic to \(\mathbb{P}(1, 2, 3, 5)\). As a direct application, combining Theorem 1.2 and the previous result [LL23, Theorem 4.4], a more general conclusion can be obtained: **Theorem 1.3**: Let \(X\) be a terminal Q - Fano three - fold. Then: \[c_1(X)^3 < 3c_2(X)c_1(X)\] ### Methods for Solving the Problem The paper proves the above results through the following steps: 1. **Excluding Specific Cases**: - Using the orbifold Riemann - Roch theorem and the previous known result [LL23, Corollary 4.3], the paper first lists the possible numerical types (see Corollary 2.3). - Then, by means of a computer program or the Grdb database [BK09], certain impossible cases are excluded. 2. **Using Foliation Theory**: - For the case where \(q_Q(X) = 5\), the paper introduces foliation theory to exclude the last case (see Section 4). 3. **Using Sarkisov Chains**: - For the case where \(q_Q(X)=4\), the paper uses the Sarkisov chain method developed by Y. Prokhorov (see Section 5). ### Specific Steps - **Lemma 5.3**: Proves that \(d\geq2\) and \(\beta_3\geq6\alpha\). - **Lemma 5.4**: Describes the forms of elements in \(\bar{S}_2\) and \(\bar{S}_3\) and points out that these elements are irreducible. - **Case - by - Case Discussion**: - When \(f(\tilde{E})\) is a curve or a Gorenstein point, this case is excluded by calculation. - When \(f(\tilde{E})\) is a point with local index 13, by analyzing in detail the values of \(\hat{q}\) in different cases, all possibilities are finally excluded. Through these steps, the paper successfully proves the optimized Kawamata - Miyaoka - type inequality and shows its application in excluding specific numerical types.
