Abstract:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(C7H5O4)(2)(C7H6N2)(2)]center dot 3H(2)O, the Cu-II ion is coordinated by two benzimidazole (bzim) molecules and two 3,5-dihydroxybenzoate (dhba) anions in a tetrahedrally distorted square-planar geometry. Aromatic pi - pi stacking is observed between parallel bzim ligands and between roughly parallel bzim and dhba units. An extensive O - H center dot center dot center dot O and N - H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen-bonding network helps to consolidate the crystal structure.

Abstract:The title compound, [CoNa4(C8H3O7S)(2)(H2O)(12)](n), is a three-dimensional coordination polymer bridged by sulfoisophthalate trianions and water molecules. The Co-II atom, located on an inversion centre, is coordinated by two carboxylate groups of the sulfoisophthalate trianions and by four water molecules in a distorted CoO6 octahedral geometry. Two independent Na-I atoms also have a distorted octahedral coordination geometry formed by water, carboxylate O and sulfonate O atoms. An extensive O-H center dot center dot center dot O and C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen-bonding network is present in the crystal structure, as well as weak pi-pi stacking [centroid-centroid distance = 3.9553 (11) angstrom].

Abstract:The title compound, [Co(C4H4O5)(C6H6N4S2)(H2O)] . 2H(2)O, contains one Co-II complex and two water molecules in the asymmetric unit. The tridentate oxydiacetate dianion meridionally chelates a Co atom, and both five-membered chelate rings assume an envelope conformation. Diaminobithiazole chelates the Co atom, in a planar configuration. Parallel thiazole rings of neighboring complex molecules are separated by 3.504 (5) Angstrom, suggesting the existence of pi-pi stacking interactions.

Abstract:The title complex, [Cu3(C9H8BrNO4S)2(C7H4BrO2)2(C10H8N2)2]·H2O, lies on an inversion center located on the central Cu atom, which is four-coordinated in a square-planar geometry, whereas the outer Cu atoms related by symmetry are five-coordinated in a square-pyramidal geometry. The trinuclear mol-ecules, with an intramolecular Cu⋯Cu separation of 6.313 (3) Å, are linked to each other, forming a chain through O - H⋯O and O - H⋯Br hydrogen bonds involving the half-occupied water mol-ecule. Futhermore, weak C - H⋯O inter-actions link the chains to form a supra-molecular network.

Abstract:A new microporous polyborate, NaCuB 7 O 12 . n H 2 O, is synthesized using boric acid as a flux. It contains a 14-membered ring framework built up by CuO 6 octahedra, BO 4 tetrahedra and BO 3 triangles. The spin-1/2 dimers of Cu 2+ ions are connected by BO 3 to form an infinite ladder along the b -axis. Magnetic susceptibility data between 2 and 330 K are presented, and the data are accurately fitted by theoretical predictions of Bleaney-Bowers for the spin-1/2 dimer, with J/k B = -153.8 K, and g = 1.98, where J is the intradimer exchange interaction constant and g is the Landé g factor.

Abstract:The polymeric title complex, [Co(C8H8O5)(H2O)(2)](n) was synthesized by reaction of cobalt acetate with 7-oxabicyclo[2,2,1]heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride. The Co-II ion is six-coordinated in a distorted octahedral environment, binding to two water O atoms, to the ether O atom of the bicycloheptane unit, to two carboxylate O atoms from two different carboxylate groups of the same anion and to one carboxylate O atom from a symmetry-related anion. The bridging character of the dianion leads to the formation of ribbons along [001]. The ribbons are linked into a layered network parallel to (010) by several O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the coordinating water molecules as donors and the carboxylate O atoms of neighbouring ribbons as acceptors. The crystal under investigation was an inversion twin.

Abstract:Two novel isotypic polyborate cluster compounds Na 5[MB 24O 34(OH) 12]. nH 2O (M = Cr (3+), Al (3+)) have been synthesized in a boric acid flux closed system at 220 degrees C by using gel as precursors. The structure of the Cr compound was determined by low-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and the Al compound was confirmed to be isostructural by powder X-ray diffraction and similar FT-IR spectra and thermal behavior. Na 5[CrB 24O 34(OH) 12]. nH 2O crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 1/ c with the cell parameters a = 17.4549(3) A, b = 11.1976(2) A, c = 21.2403(3) A, beta = 94.644(2) degrees , V = 4137.85(12) A (3), and Z = 4. The predominant feature of the structure are the spherelike polyborate clusters [MB 24O 34(OH) 12] (5-). The M (3+) cation is located at the center of the cluster, around which four hexaborate units ([B 6O 10(OH) 3] (5-)) are tetrahedrally assembled in almost a perfect T d symmetry. To the best of our knowledge, [MB 24O 34(OH) 12] (5-) is the first example of a polyborate cluster that contains 24 boron atoms. Upon heating, the compounds show two steps of weight loss, including the loss of the disengaged water and dehydration of the hydroxy groups. The first step is reversible, retaining the structure framework. The second weight loss is continuous and irreversible.

Abstract:A new mixed-metal polyborate, Na5Li[B12O18(OH)(6)]center dot 2H(2)O (1), has been synthesized using solvothermal method and characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, UVeVis spectroscopy, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, respectively. It crystallizes in the trigonal space group R-3c (No. 167) with unit cell parameters of a = b = 9.6767(6) angstrom, c = 36.358(5) angstrom, and Z = 6. Its structure features unprecedented 3D framework constructed from novel honeycomb-shaped inorganic Na-O sheets with unique 12-MR sodium rings and supramolecular polyborate 2D layers of lithium-centered [B12O18(OH)(6)](6-). Abstract:Three new open-framework transition-metal borophosphates Na5(H3O){M(II)3[B3O3(OH)]3(PO4)6}.2H2O (M(II) = Mn, Co, Ni) (denoted as MBPO-CJ25) have been synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that the three compounds possess isostructural three-dimensional (3D) open frameworks with one-dimensional 12-ring channels along the [001] direction. Notably, the structure can also be viewed as composed of metal phosphate layers [M(II)(PO4)2]4- with Kagomé topology, which are further connected by [B3O7(OH)] triborates, giving rise to a 3D open framework. The guest water molecules locate in the 12-ring channels. Partial Na+ ions reside in the 10-ring side pockets within the wall of the 12-ring channels, and the other Na+ ions and protonated water molecules locate in the 6-ring windows delimited by MO6 and PO4 polyhedra to compensate for the negative charges of the anionic framework. These compounds show a high thermal stability and are stable upon calcinations at ca. 500 degrees C. Ionic conductivities, due to the motion of Na+ ions, are measured for these three compounds. They have similar activation energies of 1.13-1.25 eV and conductivities of 2.7 x 10(-7)-9.9 x 10(-7) S cm(-1) at 300 degrees C. Magnetic measurements reveal that there are very weak antiferromagnetic interactions among the metal centers of the three compounds. Abstract:A chromium borophosphate-phosphate (Na(8)[Cr(4)B(12)P(8)O(44)(OH)(4)][P(2)O(7)]nH(2)O, 1), which has an unusual 3D framework structure, was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The framework consists of spherical cages composed of CrO(6), PO(4), BO(4), and BO(3) polyhedra. The cages are located at the vertices and the body center of the cubic cell and are interconnected through 12-membered-ring windows along the {111} direction. The actual framework structure is very complex, but the description can be simplified by using the 5-connected fundamental building cluster [CrP(5)B(3)O(24)](11-). In addition, 1 represents the first borate-rich borophosphate that contains a 3D borophosphate partial framework (3(over)infinity[B(3)P(2)O(11)(OH)]) in which the fundamental building unit is an oB dreier single ring (Delta4 square:square<Delta2 square> square). The cavities of the framework are filled with disengaged water molecules and Na(+) counterions. The former can be reversibly desorbed and reabsorbed and the latter can be exchanged by Li(+) ions, which results in significant shrinkages of the cell volume.
A Series of Inorganic-Organic Hybrid Cadmium Borates with Novel Cd-centred [Cd@b14o20(oh)6](2-) Clusters.

Abstract:Four novel inorganic-organic hybrid cadmium borates, namely [EAH]2{(py)2Cd@[B14O20-(OH)6]} (1, py = pyridine, EA = ethylamine), [PAH]2{(py)2Cd@[B14O20(OH)6]} (2, PA = propylamine), [pyH]2{(py)2Cd@[B14O20(OH)6]} (3) and {(AImH)2Cd@[B14O20(OH)6]} (4, AIm = 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole) have been solvothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, respectively. They represent the first hybrid cadmium borates that exhibit 3D supramolecular open-frameworks with different topologies. All the networks are formed by the unprecedented Cd-centred cluster [Cd@B14O20(OH)6](2-), and further link each other via a multipoint H-bond system. UV-Vis-NIR spectral investigation reveals that these borates are wide-band-gap semiconductors. Moreover, they display strong fluorescence emission around 430 nm, making them excellent candidates for optoelectronic applications as blue materials.

Abstract:Abstract[Cu(NH2CH2CH2NEt2){B6O7(OH)6}]·5H2O (1) and [Cu(NH3)2{B6O7(OH)6}]·2H2O (2) have been obtained as crystalline materials from aqueous solutions of Dynamic Combinatorial Libraries (DCLs) originating from B(OH)3 and appropriate Cu(II) amine complexes. These two Cu/O/B clusters are formed through self-assembly processes and contain tridentate hexaborate(2−)-κ3O ligands. Both compounds have been characterized by TGA/DSC, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal XRD studies. The intermolecular H-bond interactions between neighbouring hexaborate units are implicated in their templated synthesis. Compound 2 is a coordination polymer and stabilization is also gained through formation of an additional O–Cu coordinate bond. Steric congestion in 1 blocks formation of this bond resulting in insular complexes.

Abstract:A new aluminoborate, [C5H6N][AlB12O14(OH)(12)], has been hydrothermally synthesized at 200 degrees C. The single-crystal diffraction study reveals that it crystallizes in space group C2/c. It consists of aluminoborate clusters [AlB12O14(OH)(12)](-) and counterions [C5H6N](+). The aluminoborate cluster contains an Al(OH)(6) octahedron as a core that is capped by two raft-like polyborate units [B6O7(OH)(6)]. These clusters are further interlinked by extensive hydrogen bonding to form a three-dimensional (3D) network, containing large channels along the b-axis, in which the [C5H6N](+) cations are located. Abstract:A new three-dimensional (3-D) manganese(II) borophosphate, [NH4](4)[Mn9B2(OH)(2)(HPO4)(4)(PO4)(6)] (denoted MnBPO-CJ26), has been synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c (No. 15) with a = 32.603(7) angstrom, b = 10.617(2) angstrom, c = 10.718(2) angstrom, and beta = 108.26(3)degrees. Its structure features anionic manganese-phosphate layers [Mn-9(OH)(2)(HPO4)(4)(PO4)(6)](10-), which are made up from MnO5, MnO6, PO4, and HPO4 polyhedral units. These anionic layers, parallel to the bc plane, are further connected by BO4 tetrahedra through vertex oxygen atoms forming a novel open framework with 2-D eight-membered ring (8-MR) channels along the [010] and [001] directions. Charge neutrality is achieved by protonated NH3 molecules. The structure has unique B/P and Mn/P ratios (B/P = 1/5, Mn/P = 9/10). Magnetic measurements indicate that Curie-Weiss behavior above 100 K with C = 4.404(3) cm(3) mol(-1) K and theta = -51.2(5) K. The value of C is consistent with an S = (5)/(2) ion with g similar to 2.0 (4.38 cm(3) mol(-1) K). However, the magnetic data reveal a spontaneous magnetization at 8.0 K, indicating a canting of Mn2+ moments in the antiferromagnetic ground state.

Abstract:A chromium borophosphate-phosphate (Na-8[Cr4B12P8O44(OH)(4)]-[P2O7]center dot nH(2)O,1), which has an unusual 3D framework structure, was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The framework consists of spherical cages composed of CrO6, PO4, BO4, and BO3 polyhedra. The cages are located at the vertices and the body center of the cubic cell and are interconnected through 12-membered-ring windows along the {111} direction. The actual framework structure is very complex, but the description can be simplified by using the 5-connected fundamental building cluster [CrP5B3O24](11-). In addition, 1 represents the first borate-rich borophosphate that contains a 3D borophosphate partial framework (infinity(3)- [B3P2O11(OH)]) in which the fundamental building unit is an oB dreier single ring (Delta 4(sic):(sic)<Delta 2(sic)> c). The cavities of the framework are filled with disengaged water molecules and Na+ counterions. The former can be reversibly desorbed and reabsorbed and the latter can be exchanged by Li+ ions, which results in significant shrinkages of the cell volume.
