Progress in Experimcntal Reseachs on the Multiolrug-Ristverse Effect of Garcinia acid

Abstract:Gambogic acid is a natural product extracted from the resin of the plant Garcinia.Garcinia,a typical drug from Traditional Chinese Medicine,is considered to have anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidant,anti-viral,and anti-infectious effect.Gambogic acid was extracted from Garcinia and proved to be the main active ingredient in 1973.Thereafter,more and more therapeutic effects of this ancient drug have been found,the most amazing one is the anti-tumor effect.Domestic and international studies have found that gambogic acid can also reverse multidrug resistance toward chemotherapy.The reversal mechanism may include down-regulation of the expression of ATP binding membrane glycoprotein,inhibition of the catalytic activity of human topoisomerase,inhibition of the expression of anti-apoptotic protein.This article is mainly focused on the reversal effect toward MDR of the gambogic acid.Also,this article will discuss the present problem of Gambogic acid researches and introduce some new directions of this field,such as Gambogic derivatives and drug delivery system.
