Abstract:Surface functionalized and defect enriched carbon nanotubes (oCNTs) by green ozone/H2O treatment can efficiently anchor gold nanoparticles. This Au/oCNT could be stabilized and well dispersed after thermal treatment and showed robust catalytic activity (20.6 mmol gcat-1 h-1) for the oxidative self-coupling of benzylamine to imine in solvent free conditions.

Abstract:Owning to the unique structure, the excellent physical and chemical properties, the superstrong mechanics performances and so on, carbon nanotubes had been attracting the interest of all over the world. As the basis of carbon nanotubes, single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs) have the better potential prospect in many fields, such as electron nano-devices, single electron devices, energy storage materials and so on. In this paper, the recent developments in the synthesis of SWCNTs were reviewed briefly, which included arc discharge, laser ablation, chemical vapor deposition and so on. At the same time, the crucial factors for the growth of SWCNTs were discussed.

Abstract:Hybrid nanostructures composed of gold nanoparticles (NPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been prepared by a microwave-assisted method in the mixed solvents of oleylamine and oleic. The morphology, structure and composition of as-obtained Au/CNT composites are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD). The composites show characteristic plasmon absorption of Au NPs in the Ultraviolet–visual spectrum. Fourier transform infrared spectrum shows the successful introduction of functional groups on the surface of CNTs, which are crucial factors to assist the nucleation in situ of Au NPs on the surface of CNTs. Electrochemical measurements show the enhancement electrochemical response for the gold electrode modified with Au/CNT composites.

Abstract:Gold-coated magnetic nanocomposites with unique physical and chemical properties have recently been subjected to extensive researches since the gold shells could improve their biocompatibility, functionality and stability further, which endue them with great application potentials in various fields. Several main approaches have been studied for the synthesis of gold-coated magnetic nanocomposites, including microemulsion, sonochemical synthesis, self assembly, seed-mediated growth method, and laser irradiation. This review is focused on describing various strategies for the preparation of gold-coated magnetic nanocomposites. Furthermore, we also introduce main applications of gold-coated magnetic nanocomposites in biomedical fields and point out some challenges in the synthesis of high-quality gold-coated magnetic nanocomposites.

Abstract:In this paper the technique and conditions of the synthesis of CNTs-Ni-P composite coating with electroless com posite plating have been studied.We also discussed the influence on the wear-re-sis tance and anti-corrasion of the Ni-P com posite coating with the CNTs .We found the best conditions to synthesize the CNTs-Ni-P composite coating from all above.At the same time after annealed in high temperature,the hardness of the composite coating has been observed.The SEM and the TEM were used to analyze the structure characters of the CNTs-Ni-P composite coating and the morphology of the CNTs respectively.

Abstract:This review (with 106 references) summarizes the latest progress in the synthesis, properties and biomedical applications of gold nanotubes (AuNTs). Following an introduction into the field, a first large section covers two popular AuNTs synthesis methods. The hard template method introduces anodic alumina oxide template (AAO) and track-etched membranes (TeMs), while the sacrificial template method based on galvanic replacement introduces bimetallic, trimetallic AuNTs and AuNT-semiconductor hybrid materials. Then, the factors affecting the morphology of AuNTs are discussed. The next section covers their unique surface plasmon resonance (SPR), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and their catalytic properties. This is followed by overviews on the applications of AuNTs in biosensors, protein transportation, photothermal therapy and imaging. Several tables are presented that give an overview on the wealth of synthetic methods, morphology factors and biological application. A concluding section summarizes the current status, addresses current challenges and gives an outlook on potential applications of AuNTs in biochemical detection and drug delivery.

Preparation methods (coprecipitation, deposition-precipitation, impregnation, etc.) of the catalysts, characterization of active gold species (size effect, valence state and interaction between metal and support), and performance of the catalysts in selective oxidation, hydrogenation and environmental remediation were summarized.

Abstract:High-strength and high-conductivity copper alloy is one kind of functional materials which has a broad application. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can be used in the preparation of copper based composite as reinforcement. The uniform dispersion of carbon nanotubes and combination between carbon nanotubes and copper are two key factors. Some technics used in the surface treatment will be introduced in this paper and a new technics which is called zone melting technology will be applied in the preparation of CNTs/Cu composites. Through a series of experiments, one point has been proved that this kind of technics can improve the combination between carbon nanotubes and copper.

Abstract:In this paper we are reporting the different methods of synthesis and characterization of gold colloid, silver colloid and Multiwall carbon nanotube based composites and the potential applications. Three types of gold colloids (negative, neutral, positive) were produced by chemical reduction of uric chloride using either sodium citrate or sodium borohydride or diethyl amino pyridine (DMAP) as reducing agents. Silver colloid was produced by reduction of silver nitrate solution. Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT's) based composites are synthesized using solvent casting method. The formation of Au and Ag nanoparticles was confirmed by the appearance of surface Plasmon absorption maxima at 560 and 420 nm for Au and Ag nanoparticles respectively using UV-Visible spectroscopy. All these nano materials and MWCNT based composites are characterized using SEM, TEM, AFM and XRD. XRD analysis of gold and silver colloids revealed all relevant Bragg's reflections corresponding to the FCC crystal structure as given in the JCPDS data for gold and silver colloid. However some new peaks which do not belong to the above structure were also present in the data for both Au and Ag. In this paper we are also reporting the possibility of using Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF)/CNT composite as strain sensors. Different weight percentage (2 Wt%, 3 Wt%, 4 Wt %) of CNT-PVDF polymer nanocomposite films are prepared and they are characterized using various techniques and reported. The strain and defect measurements using the CNT-PVDF nanocomposite as a novel Non-destructive technique (NDT) is briefly explained.

Abstract:Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can be incorporated into polymer matrices to form CNTs/polymer composites exhibiting outstanding mechanical, electrical and nonlinear optical properties. The crystallization and morphology of the polymers can be strongly affected by small additions of CNTs. A large number of research results have demonstrated that these composite materials have found many potential applications in the fields of e. g. photovoltaic cells, organic light-emitting device, optical limiting, all-optical switches, protective coatings, and artificial muscles as well. This review introduced the preparation of CNTs/polymer composites, and their potential applications in many high-technology fields.

Abstract:Carbon nanotube (CNT) is a promising nanomaterial with excellent mechanical, electrical, thermal, and chemical stability. It has received extensive attention due to its unique multifunctional properties in engineering materials. Researchers have explored the preparation and characterization of CNT reinforced cement-based materials. Studies have shown that adding CNT will significantly improve the performance of cement-based materials. This article introduces the techniques for the dispersion characterization of CNT and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques. The functionalized applications of CNT in cement-based materials are reviewed, including sensing performance, structural health monitoring of concrete, electromagnetic shielding, and other applications. In addition, the application and development prospects of CNT in 3D printing concrete have been prospected. Finally, we discussed the existing problems and challenges in developing and applying CNT in cement-based materials and suggested future research.

Research of Carbon Nanotubes-Cu Composite with Interpenetrating Networks

Abstract:Carbon nanotube(CNTs)-Cu composite with interpenetrating network was fabricated through a new route.This fabrication involved the addition of Cu powders during the formation process of gelatin elastic bulk,in which CNTs acted as a skeleton,followed by reduction,carbonization,vacuum hot pressed sintering.The SEM images of the composite indicated that CNTs and Cu matrix were cross-linked as interpenetrating networks.The results of tribological test demonstrate that the wear resistant property was enhanced remarkably with the increased content of CNTs ranging from 0%~9%,owing to the self-lubricating effect of CNTs and the good incorporation between CNTs and Cu matrix.

Abstract:The present paper reports reinforced particles effects on the properties of copper alloy. Characteristics and preparation methods of Cu-based composites were compared, and the formation mechanism of particle phase was discussed. The emphasis is laid on the types and the fabricating techniques of reinforced particle phase. The latest development shows nano - ceramic can improved the mechanical property of copper alloy. It is proposed such nano - ceramics produced by mechanical alloy or in - situ reaction have the best effect. Reaction spray deposition (RSD) , liquid in-situ reaction and mechanical alloy (MA) have better application outlook at produce Cu - based composites reinforced by particles.

Abstract:Nanoporous gold (NPG) is one of the representatives of emerging materials that combine the advantages of nano, porous, and metallic materials. In addition to the general characteristics of nanoporous materials, NPG also has many unique properties, such as excellent structural stability, adjustable pore size, high conductivity, remarkable biocompatibility, clean surface, easy recycle and reuse, and unique electrochemical catalytic activities. These performances endow NPG promising application potentials in the fields of catalysis, environmental monitoring, energy storage, biomedicine, etc. Herein, this review summarizes the recent advances of NPG over the past decade. Besides preparation and modification of NPG, special emphasis is placed on its applications in biotechnology and biomedicine: catalysis, biosensors, biofuel cells, and drug delivery. The significant and representative studies in each area are comprehensively reviewed and analyzed as a reference for researchers working in related areas. The main challenges and future opportunities of NPG in these areas are also discussed.
