Abstract:The selecting lemma of Liao selects, under certain conditions of a non-hyperbolic setting, a special kind of orbits of finite length, called quasi-hyperbolic strings, which can be shadowed by true orbits. In this article we give an exposition on this lemma, and illustrate some recent applications.

Mirror Symmetry for Special Nilpotent Orbit Closures

Abstract:Motivated by geometric Langlands, we initiate a program to study the mirror symmetry between nilpotent orbit closures of a semisimple Lie algebra and those of its Langlands dual. The most interesting case is $B_n$ via $C_n$. Classically, there is a famous Springer duality between special orbits. Therefore, it is natural to speculate that the mirror symmetry we seek may coincide with Springer duality in the context of special orbits. Unfortunately, such a naive statement fails. To remedy the situation, we propose a conjecture which asserts the mirror symmetry for certain parabolic/induced covers of special orbits. Then, we prove the conjecture for Richardson orbits and obtain certain partial results in general. In the process, we reveal some very interesting and yet subtle structures of these finite covers, which are related to Lusztig's canonical quotients of special nilpotent orbits. For example, there is a mysterious asymmetry in the footprint or range of degrees of these finite covers. Finally, we provide two examples to show that the mirror symmetry fails outside the footprint.

Abstract:Let π be a minimal Erdös-Szekeres permutation of 1, 2, ..., n 2 , and let l n,k be the length of the longest increasing subsequence in the segment ( π (1), ..., π ( k )). Under uniform measure we establish an exponentially decaying bound of the upper tail probability for l n,k , and as a consequence we obtain a complete convergence, which is an improvement of Romik’s recent result. We also give a precise lower exponential tail for l n,k .

Abstract:The authors give a quick account for the theory of quasi-hyperbolicity and linear transversality,due independently to Ma e ′,Sacker-Sell,and Selgrade. In the last section the authors explain the correspondence between this theory and the obstruction sets theory of Liao. In fact this account serves also as an illustration of Liao's theory.
SLE Loop Measure and Liouville Quantum Gravity

Abstract:As recently shown by Holden and two of the authors, the conformal welding of two Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) disks produces a canonical variant of SLE curve whose law is called the SLE loop measure. In this paper, we demonstrate how LQG can be used to study the SLE loop measure. Firstly, we show that for $\kappa\in (8/3,8)$, the loop intensity measure of the conformal loop ensemble agrees with the SLE loop measure as defined by Zhan (2021). The former was initially considered by Kemppainen and Werner (2016) for $\kappa\in (8/3,4]$, and the latter was constructed for $\kappa\in (0,8)$. Secondly, we establish a duality for the SLE loop measure between $\kappa$ and $16/\kappa$. Thirdly, we obtain the exact formula for the moment of the electrical thickness for the shape (probability) measure of the SLE loop, which in the regime $\kappa\in (8/3,8)$ was conjectured by Kenyon and Wilson (2004). This relies on the exact formulae for the reflection coefficient and the one-point disk correlation function in Liouville conformal field theory. Finally, we compute several multiplicative constants associated with the SLE loop measure, which are not only of intrinsic interest but also used in our companion paper relating the conformal loop ensemble to the imaginary DOZZ formulae.

On a class of selection rules without group actions in field theory and string theory

Abstract:We discuss a class of selection rules which i) do not come from group actions on fields, ii) are exact at tree level in perturbation theory, iii) are increasingly violated as the loop order is raised, and iv) eventually reduce to selection rules associated with an ordinary group symmetry. We start from basic field-theoretical examples in which fields are labeled by conjugacy classes rather than representations of a group, and discuss generalizations using fusion algebras or hypergroups. We also discuss how such selection rules arise naturally in string theory, such as for non-Abelian orbifolds or other cases with non-invertible worldsheet symmetries.

A new characterization of $L^2$-domains of holomorphy with null thin complements via $L^2$-optimal conditions

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the $L^2$-optimal condition implies the $L^2$-divisibility of $L^2$-integrable holomorphic functions. As an application, we offer a new characterization of bounded $L^2$-domains of holomorphy with null thin complements using the $L^2$-optimal condition, which appears to be advantageous in addressing a problem proposed by Deng-Ning-Wang. Through this characterization, we show that a domain in a Stein manifold with a null thin complement, admitting an exhaustion of complete Kähler domains, remains Stein. By the way, we construct an $L^2$-optimal domain that does not admit any complete Kähler metric.

Local geometry of special pieces of nilpotent orbits

Abstract:The nilpotent cone of a simple Lie algebra is partitioned into locally closed subvarieties called special pieces, each containing exactly one special orbit. Lusztig conjectured that each special piece is the quotient of some smooth variety by a precise finite group $H$, a result proved for the classical types by Kraft and Procesi. The present work is about exceptional types. Our main result is a local version of Lusztig's conjecture: the intersection of a special piece with a Slodowy slice transverse to the minimal orbit in the piece is isomorphic to the quotient of a vector space by $H$. Along the way, we complete our previous work on the generic singularities of nilpotent orbit closures, by providing proofs for the last two `exotic' singularities. Four further, non-isolated, exotic singularities are studied: we show that quotients $\overline{{\mathcal 0}_{\text{mini}}(\mathfrak{so}_8)}/\mathfrak{S}_4$, $S^2({\mathbb C}^2/\mu_3)$, $S^3({\mathbb C}^2/\mu_2)$ and $\overline{{\mathcal 0}_{\text{mini}}(\mathfrak{sl}_3)}/\mathfrak{S}_4$ occur as Slodowy slice singularities between nilpotent orbits in types $F_4$, $E_6$, $E_7$ and $E_8$ respectively. We also extend, to fields other than ${\mathbb C}$, the results of Brylinski and Kostant on shared orbit pairs. In the course of our analysis, we discover a shared pair which is missing from Brylinski and Kostant's classification.

Abstract:The combinatorial Mandelbrot set is a continuum in the plane, whose boundary is defined as the quotient space of the unit circle by an explicit equivalence relation. This equivalence relation was described by Douady (1984) and, separately, by Thurston (1985) who used quadratic invariant geolaminations as a major tool. We showed earlier that the combinatorial Mandelbrot set can be interpreted as a quotient of the space of all limit quadratic invariant geolaminations with the Hausdorff distance topology. In this paper, we describe two similar quotients. In the first case, the identifications are the same but the space is smaller than that used for the Mandelbrot set. The resulting quotient space is obtained from the Mandelbrot set by ıpinching" the transitions between adjacent hyperbolic components. In the second case we identify renormalizable geolaminations that can be ırenormalized" to the same hyperbolic geolamination while no two non-renormalizable geolaminations are identified.

Abstract:For every r is an element of N->= 2 boolean OR {infinity} , we prove a C (R) -orbit connecting lemma for dynamically coherent and plaque expansive partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with one-dimensional orientation preserving center bundle. To be precise, for such a diffeomorphism f, if a point y is chain attainable from x through pseudo-orbits, then for any neighborhood U of x and any neighborhood V of y, there exist true orbits from U to V by arbitrarily C (R) -small perturbations. As a consequence, we prove that for C-r -generic diffeomorphisms in this class, periodic points are dense in the chain recurrent set, and chain transitivity implies transitivity.

Abstract:We prove an analogue of Yau's Caccioppoli-type inequality for nonnegative subharmonic functions on graphs. We then obtain a Liouville theorem for harmonic or non-negative subharmonic functions of class Lq, 1<=q<∞, on any graph, and a quantitative version for q > 1. Also, we provide counterexamples for Liouville theorems for 0 < q < 1.

Abstract:Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, it is known that at least half of the central values $L(\frac{1}{2},\chi)$ are non-vanishing as $\chi$ ranges over primitive characters modulo $q$. Unconditionally, this is known on average over both $\chi$ modulo $q$ and $Q/2 \leq q \leq 2Q$. We prove that for any $\delta>0$, there exist $\eta_1,\eta_2>0$ depending on $\delta$ such that the non-vanishing proportion for $L(\frac{1}{2},\chi)$ as $\chi$ ranges modulo $q$ with $q$ varying in short intervals of size $Q^{1-\eta_1}$ around $Q$ and in arithmetic progressions with moduli up to $Q^{\eta_2}$ is larger than $\frac{1}{2}-\delta$.

Abstract:Abstract We study foliations by chord–arc Jordan curves of the twice punctured Riemann sphere using the Loewner–Kufarev equation. We associate to such a foliation a function on the plane that describes the “local winding” along each leaf. Our main theorem is that this function has finite Dirichlet energy if and only if the Loewner driving measure has finite Loewner–Kufarev energy, defined by whenever is of the form , and set to otherwise. Moreover, if either of these two energies is finite, they are equal up to a constant factor, and in this case, the foliation leaves are Weil–Petersson quasicircles. This duality between energies has several consequences. The first is that the Loewner–Kufarev energy is reversible, that is, invariant under inversion and time reversal of the foliation. Furthermore, the Loewner energy of a Jordan curve can be expressed using the minimal Loewner–Kufarev energy of those measures that generate the curve as a leaf. This provides a new and quantitative characterization of Weil–Petersson quasicircles. Finally, we consider conformal distortion of the foliation and show that the Loewner–Kufarev energy satisfies an exact transformation law involving the Schwarzian derivative. The proof of our main theorem uses an isometry between the Dirichlet energy space on the unit disc and that we construct using Hadamard's variational formula expressed by means of the Loewner–Kufarev equation. Our results are related to ‐parameter duality and large deviations of Schramm–Loewner evolutions coupled with Gaussian random fields.

Abstract:We study the property of uniform discreteness within discrete orbits of non-uniform lattices in $SL_2(\mathbb{R})$, acting on $\mathbb{R}^2$ by linear transformations. We provide quantitative consequences of previous results by using Diophantine properties. We give a partial result toward a conjecture of Lelièvre regarding the set of long cylinder holonomy vectors of the "golden L" translation surface: for any $\epsilon>0$, three points of this set can be found on a horizontal line within a distance of $\epsilon$ of each other.

We prove that, for an odd prime p|N_L , if L_p=L_p,1 L_p,2 , where L_p,1 is unimodular, L_p,2 is ( p )-modular, and ℚ_pL_p,2 is anisotropic, then ℳ(L;p):= ℳ(L) +T_p^2. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_p^2 . If L_2 is isometric to ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ 2ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1; 1 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ with ε∈ℤ_2^× and κ :=k-1/2 , then ℳ(L;2):=T_2^2.ℳ(L)+T_2^2^2. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_2^2 . Furthermore, we determine some invariant subspaces of the cusp forms for the Hecke operators.
