Abstract:Since the 1970s,Marjorie Perloff,has been regarded as a guardian figure by contemporary American poets for her defense of contemporary American poetry. Through her work and insightful criticism,she acts as a guide in the development of contemporary poetry writing.In particular,she is regarded as a respected forerunner in expositing and theorizing the avant-garde in poetry.Without the succession of critical books and articles on avant-garde poetry that Perloff has produced,it is hard to imagine the academic success of avant-garde poetry in the United States.Her Radical Artifice;Writing Poetry in the Age of Media,is a must-read for all literary scholars.Her profound observation, critical perspective and commitment to modern and contemporary literature are the determining factors of this book's enduring academic appeal.Although 20 years have passed since the book's publication,it still speaks to the tunes of our time and provides fruitful research directions for contemporary literary studies.As a humanity classic,it will continue to make an impact upon academia,to say the least,even in 20 years to come.
