Abstract:It is argued that the newly introduced moments of rapidity gaps for the event-by-event fluctuations depends on the number of events and multiplicity. The interesting ones are unstable under ISR energies of h–h collisions. The instability is well improved when multiplicity increases.

Abstract:The relation between event rapidity gap fluctuation and rapidity correlations is derived. It is shown that the new and interesting parts included in rapidity gap analysis are the generalized two-particle rapidity-correlation moments. The physical meanings of these moments for specific two particles and moment orders are clarified.

Abstract:I examine the phenomenology of particle multiplicity distributions, with special emphasis on the low multiplicities that are a background in the study of rapidity gaps. In particular, I analyze the multiplicity distribution in a rapidity interval between two jets, using the HERWIG QCD simulation with some necessary modifications. The distribution is not of the negative binomial form, and displays an anomalous enhancement at zero multiplicity. Some useful mathematical tools for working with multiplicity distributions are presented. It is demonstrated that ignoring particles with pt<0.2 has theoretical advantages, in addition to being convenient experimentally.

Abstract:The rapidity distributions of shower particles in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions are investigated and compared with that in hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions. The remarkable difference in the correlation between rapidity distribution and multiplicity in the three cases, as well as the scaling of rapidity distribution in the target region and the nonscaling of the same distribution in the central region, are explained.

Abstract:The requirement of a large pseudo-rapidity gap to select diffractive DIS events at HERA restricts the kinematically accessible region of phase space for a significant range of Q2, β and xp. Consequences of this include a breakdown of xp-factorization in large rapidity gap diffractive samples and an enhancement in the relative contribution of quark-antiquark-gluon processes over dijet processes in the diffractive DIS sample.

Abstract:Employing the AMPT transport model, we investigate the response of the rapidity-even dipolar flow ( ) and its associated Global Momentum Conservation (GMC) parameter to structural disparities within Ru and Zr nuclei. We analyze and collisions at a center-of-mass energy of = 200~GeV. Our analysis demonstrates that the eccentricity , and exhibit subtle yet discernible sensitivity to the input nuclear structure distinctions between Ru and Zr isobars. This observation suggests that measuring and the GMC parameter in these isobaric collisions could serve as a means to fine-tune the comprehension of their nuclear structure disparities and offer insights to enhance the initial condition assumptions of theoretical models.

Abstract:Size and position of rapidity window dependence of charge fluctuations and correlations are studied by PYTHIA and RQMD models for hadron–hadron and nucleus–nucleus collisions respectively. The results show that all the measures for charge fluctuations and correlations depend on the size of central rapidity windows and most of them depend on the position of the rapidity windows, which is not expected. Only charge balance function in hadron–hadron collisions is independent of the position of rapidity window, i.e. boost-invariant, in consistent with corresponding experimental data, while charge fluctuations measured by D(Q) is not boost-invariant in contrast to the experimental data. The measures for three kind of charge correlations (R++, R--, R+-) show a good account for the behavior of charge correlations and global charge conservation in longitudinal phase space in both PYTHIA and RQMD.

Abstract:The multiplicity fluctuation of particles in small rapidity intervals from mini-jets in high-energy hadron-hadron collisions are considered and a power-law behavior is found. An increase of the observed factorial moments with PT of the jets is expected. However, the fluctuation becomes smaller for larger total multiplicity due to the contributions from multiple mini-jets production.

Abstract:We study the semi-inclusive limit of the deep inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan (DY) processes in soft collinear effective theory. In this regime so-called threshold logarithms must be resummed to render perturbation theory well behaved. Part of this resummation occurs via the Dokshitzer, Gribov, Lipatov, Altarelli, Parisi (DGLAP) equation, which at threshold contains a large logarithm that calls into question the convergence of the anomalous dimension. We demonstrate here that the problematic logarithm is related to rapidity divergences, and by introducing a rapidity regulator can be tamed. We show that resumming the rapidity logarithms allows us to reproduce the standard DGLAP running at threshold as long as a set of potentially large nonperturbative logarithms are absorbed into the definition of the parton distribution function (PDF). These terms could, in turn, explain the steep falloff of the PDF in the end point. We then go on to show that the resummation of rapidity divergences does not change the standard threshold resummation in DY, nor do our results depend on the rapidity regulator we choose to use.

Abstract:The problem of eliminating the statistical fluctuations and extracting the event dynamics from event-by-event analysis is discussed. New moments Gp (for continuous distribution) and Gq,p (for anomalous distribution) are proposed, which are experimentally measurable and can eliminate the Poissonian-type statistical fluctuations to recover the dynamical moments Cp and Cq,p. In this way, the dynamical distribution of the event-averaged transverse momentum p¯t can be extracted, and the anomalous scaling of dynamical distribution, if it exists, can be recovered, through event-by-event analysis of experimental data.

Abstract:A comprehensive analysis of centrality dependence of event-by-event fluctuations of pseudo-rapidity multiplicity combination in terms of strongly intensive quantity has been carried out in 22 Ne-emulsion interactions at 4.1 AGeV/c. The ensemble of events has been categorized into four centrality classes based on the total charges or sum of the charges of non-interacting projectile fragments (Q). Notably, significant fluctuations in pseudo-rapidity are observed across different centrality ranges. Strongly intensive quantity increases with decreasing centrality while increases weakly with decreasing centrality up to Q = 4. Our study reflects that change in the strongly intensive quantity and does not depend on the number of analyzed events in each class. Experimental results are compared with the analysis of MC-RAND events.

Abstract:This thesis is concerned with the theory and the phenomenology of rapidity gap processes. We perform perturbative calculations of energy flow observables in jet-gap-jet processes, which consist of resummed primary emission calculations specific to the soft gluon geometry at HERA and an estimate of non-global (secondary emission) effects in clustered energy flow observables. The resulting predictions agree well with H1 data. We also study hard diffraction and use a factorised model, with a Monte Carlo event generator, to make detailed predictions for gap-jet-gap events at the Tevatron. We find that we can describe the data in a natural way by using HERA parton densities and a gap surivial factor consistent with theoretical estimates.

Abstract:A possible universal description of rapidity dependence of multiplicity distributions in high energye+e−, μp, hh, hA and AA collisions is proposed based on a cluster mechanism, local charged compensation and its violation. It appears that there exist a statistical connection between multiplicity distribution in a full longitudinal phase space and that in a selected rapidity window with limited size.

Abstract:In contrast to the recent prediction of high pT hadron suppression within the parton saturation model, it is shown that multiple parton scattering suffered by the projectile will enhance high pT hadron spectra in d+A collisions relative to a superposition of binary p+p collisions at RHIC. A stronger enhancement in the forward rapidity region of the projectile is also predicted, resulting in a unique rapidity asymmetry of the hadron spectra at high pT. The shape of the rapidity asymmetry should be reversed for low pT hadrons that are dominated by soft and coherent interactions which suppress hadron spectra in the projectile rapidity region. The phenomenon at the LHC energies is shown to be qualitatively different because of parton shadowing.

Abstract:Large transverse momentum distributions of identified particles observed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) are analyzed by a relativistic stochastic model in the three dimensional (non-Euclidean) rapidity space. A distribution function obtained from the model is Gaussian-like in radial rapidity. It can well describe observed transverse momentum p T distributions. Estimation of radial flow is made from the analysis of p T distributions for [Formula: see text] in Au + Au Collisions. Temperatures are estimated from observed large p T distributions under the assumption that the distribution function approaches to the Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution in the lower momentum limit. The power-law behavior of large p T distribution is also derived from the model.

Abstract:The energy and centrality dependence of the charged multiplicity per participant nucleon is shown to be able to differentiate between final state saturation and fixed scale perturbative QCD models of initial entropy production in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. The energy dependence is shown to test the nuclear enhancement of the minijet component of the initial conditions, while the centrality dependence provides a key test of whether gluon saturation is reached at RHIC energies. The HIJING model predicts that the rapidity density per participant increases with centrality, while the saturation model prediction is essentially independent of centrality.
