Abstract:In this paper, we present a construction of abelian Paley type group schemes which are inequivalent to Paley group schemes. We then determine the equivalence amongst their configurations, the Hadamard designs or the Paley type strongly regular graphs obtained from these group schemes, up to isomorphism. We also give constructions of several families of non-abelian Paley type group schemes using strong multiplier groups of the abelian Paley type group schemes, and present the first family of p-groups of non-square order and of non-prime exponent that contain Paley type group schemes for all odd primes p.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that every automorphism of a Chevalley group (or its elementary subgroup) with root system of rank > 1 over a commutative ring (with 1/2 for the systems A2,F4,Bl,Cl ; with 1/2 and 1/3 for the system G2 ) is standard, i.e., it is a composition of ring, inner, central and graph automorphisms. This result finalizes description of automorphisms of Chevalley groups. However, the restrictions on invertible elements can be a topic of further considerations. We provide also some model-theoretic applications of this description.

Regular bi-interpretability and finite axiomatizability of Chevalley groups

Abstract:In this paper we consider Chevalley groups over commutative rings with~$1$, constructed by irreducible root systems of rank $>1$. We always suppose that for the systems $A_2, B_\ell, C_\ell, F_4, G_2$ our rings contain $1/2$ and for the system $G_2$ also $1/3$. Under these assumptions we prove that the central quotients of Chevalley groups are regularly bi-interpretable with the corresponding rings, the class of all central quotients of Chevalley groups of a given type is elementarily definable and even finitely axiomatizable (see Definition~2.2). The same holds for adjoint Chevalley groups and for bondedly generated Chevalley groups. We also give an example of Chevalley group with infinite center, which is not bi-interpretable with the corresponding ring and is elementarily equivalent to a group that is not a Chevalley group itself.

Abstract:Let G \mathsf G be a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over R \mathbb R , and let C : G → G C: \mathsf G\rightarrow \mathsf G be a fundamental Chevalley involution. We show that for every g ∈ G ( R ) g\in \mathsf G(\mathbb R) , C ( g ) C(g) is conjugate to g − 1 g^{-1} in the group G ( R ) \mathsf G(\mathbb R) . Similar result on the Lie algebras is also obtained.

Abstract:The (reduced) Burau representation V n of the braid group B n is obtained from the action of B n on the homology of an infinite cyclic cover of the disc with n punctures. In this paper, we calculate H *(B n ; V n ). Our topological calculation has the following arithmetic interpretation (which also has different algebraic proofs): the expected number of points on a random superelliptic curve of a fixed genus over F q is q.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a smooth, projective, geometrically integral curve defined over a perfect field $\mathbb{F}$. Let $k=\mathbb{F}(\mathcal{C})$ be the function field of $\mathcal{C}$. Let $\mathbf{G}$ be a split simply connected semisimple $\mathbb{Z}$-group scheme. Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite set of places of $\mathcal{C}$. In this paper, we investigate on the conjugacy classes of maximal unipotent subgroups of $\mathcal{S}$-arithmetic subgroups. These are parameterized thanks to the Picard group of $\mathcal{O}_{\mathcal{S}}$ and the rank of $\mathbf{G}$. Furthermore, these maximal unipotent subgroups can be realized as the unipotent part of natural stabilizer, which are the stabilizers of sectors of the associated Bruhat-Tits building. We decompose these natural stabilizers in terms of their diagonalisable part and unipotent part, and we precise the group structure of the diagonalisable part.

Abstract:In this paper we study abstract group homomorphisms between the groups of rational points of linear algebraic groups which are not necessarily reductive. One of our main goal is to obtain results on homomorphisms from the groups of rational points of linear algebraic groups defined over certain specific fields to the groups of rational points of linear algebraic groups over number fields and non-archimedean local fields of characteristic zero; in this set-up we deal with the unexplored topic of abstract homomorphisms from the groups of rational points of anisotropic groups over non-archimedean local fields of characteristic zero. We also obtain results on abstract homomorphisms from unipotent and solvable groups, and prove general results on the structures of abstract homomorphisms using the celebrated result of Borel and Tits in this area and a well-known theorem due to Tits on the structure of the groups of rational points of isotropic semisimple groups.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{G}$ be a reductive Chevalley group scheme (defined over $\mathbb{Z}$). Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a smooth, projective, geometrically integral curve over a field $\mathbb{F}$. Let $P$ be a closed point on $\mathcal{C}$. Let $A$ be the ring of functions that are regular outside $\lbrace P \rbrace$. The fraction field $k$ of $A$ has a discrete valuation $\nu=\nu_{P}: k^{\times} \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}$ associated to $P$. In this work, we study the action of the group $ \textbf{G}(A)$ of $A$-points of $\mathbf{G}$ on the Bruhat-Tits building $\mathcal{X}=\mathcal{X}(\textbf{G},k,\nu_{P})$ in order to describe the structure of the orbit space $ \textbf{G}(A)\backslash \mathcal{X}$. We obtain that this orbit space is the ``gluing'' of a closed connected CW-complex with some sector chambers. The latter are parametrized by a set depending on the Picard group of $\mathcal{C} \smallsetminus \{P\}$ and on the rank of $\mathbf{G}$. Moreover, we observe that any rational sector face whose tip is a special vertex contains a subsector face that embeds into this orbit space.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the structures of monomial Hopf algebras over a field of positive characteristic. A necessary and sufficient condition for the monomial coalgebra C d ( n ) to admit Hopf structures is given here, and if it is the case, all graded Hopf structures on C d ( n ) are completely classified. Moreover, we construct a Hopf algebras filtration on C d ( n ) which will help us to discuss a conjecture posed by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. Finally combined with a theorem by Montgomery, we give the structure theorem for all monomial Hopf algebras.

Abstract:We prove a formula for the multiplication of equivariant first Chern classes of tautological bundles of type A bow varieties with respect to the stable envelope basis. This formula naturally generalizes the classical Chevalley--Monk formula and can be formulated in terms of creating crossings of skein type diagrams that label the stable envelope basis.

Abstract:We give a complete classification of homomorphisms from the braid group on $n$ strands to the braid group on $2n$ strands when $n$ is at least 5. We also classify endomorphisms of the braid group on 4 strands, as well as homomorphisms from the commutator subgroup of the braid group on $n$ strands to the braid group on $2n-5$ strands. Our classifications suggest a recursive classification of homomorphisms between any braid groups. We also give a simple, geometric proof of a theorem of Lin that highly constrains the holomorphic maps that may exist between spaces of monic, square-free polynomials of two given degrees.

Abstract:Let $L/K$ be any finite Galois extension with Galois group $G$. It is known by Chase and Sweedler that the Hopf--Galois correspondence is injective for every Hopf--Galois structure on $L/K$, but it need not be bijective in general. Hopf--Galois structures are known to be related to skew braces, and recently, the first-named author and Trappeniers proposed a new version of this connection with the property that the intermediate fields of $L/K$ in the image of the Hopf--Galois correspondence are in bijection with the left ideals of the associated skew brace. As an application, they classified the groups $G$ for which the Hopf--Galois correspondence is bijective for every Hopf--Galois structure on any $G$-Galois extension. In this paper, using a similar approach, we shall classify the groups $N$ for which the Hopf--Galois correspondence is bijective for every Hopf--Galois structure of type $N$ on any Galois extension.

Abstract:Let $G(\mathbb{Q})$ be a simply connected Chevalley group over $\mathbb{Q}$ corresponding to a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $V$ be a finite dimensional faithful highest weight $\mathfrak g$-module and let $V_\mathbb{Z}$ be a Chevalley $\mathbb{Z}$-form of $V$. Let $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z})$ be the subgroup of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ that preserves $V_{\mathbb{Z}}$ and let $G(\mathbb{Z})$ be the group of $\mathbb{Z}$-points of $G(\mathbb{Q})$. Then $G(\mathbb{Q})$ is \emph{integral} if $G(\mathbb{Z})=\Gamma(\mathbb{Z})$. Chevalley's original work constructs a scheme-theoretic integral form of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ which equals $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z})$. Here we give a representation-theoretic proof of integrality of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ using only the action of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ on $V$, rather than the language of group schemes. We discuss the challenges and open problems that arise in trying to extend this to a proof of integrality for Kac-Moody groups over $\mathbb{Q}$.

Abstract:Let $X,Y$ be $(n-1)$-connected finite pointed CW-complexes of dimension at most $n+2$, $n\geq 3$. In this paper we give elementary proofs of the abelian group structure of $[X,Y]$ of homotopy classes of based maps from $X$ to $Y$, which was due to Baues and Schmidt. Furthermore, we determine the explicit generators associated to $[X,Y]$. As an application, we compute certain (sub)groups of self-homotopy equivalences of certain Chang complexes.
