Abstract:For a harmonic map between two hyperkäher manifolds, we prove a Weitzenböck type formula for the defining quantity of quaternionic maps, and apply it to harmonic morphisms. We also provide a sufficient and necessary condition for a smooth map being quaternionic.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the Bochner-Kodaira formulas to the case of Hermitian complex (possibly non-holomorphic) vector bundles over compact Hermitian (possibly non-Kähler) manifolds. As applications, we get the complex analyticity of harmonic maps between compact Hermitian manifolds.

Abstract:Let (M, J(alpha), alpha = 1, 2, 3) and (N, J(alpha), alpha = 1, 2, 3) be hyperkahler manifolds. We study stationary quaternionic maps between M and N. We first show that if there are no holomorphic 2-spheres in the target then any sequence of stationary quaternionic maps with bounded energy subconverges to a stationary quaternionic map strongly in W-1,W-2(M, N). We then find that certain tangent maps of quaternionic maps give rise to an interesting minimal 2-sphere. At last we construct a stationary quaternionic map with a codimension-3 singular set by using the embedded minimal S-2 in the hyperkahler surface (M) over tilde (0)(2) studied by Atiyah-Hitchin.

Abstract:We derive the variation formula of the partial derivative-energy and of the partial derivative-energy for a smooth map from a complex Finsler manifold to an Hermitian manifold. Applying the result on a nonlinear elliptic system due to J. Jost and S. T. Yau, we obtain some existence theorems of harmonic maps from strongly Kahler Finsler manifolds to Kahler manifolds. Also, for such maps, we show that the difference between partial derivative-energy and partial derivative-energy is a homotopy invariant.

Abstract:Let ( M , J α , α = 1 , 2 , 3 ) (M, J^\alpha , \alpha =1,2,3) and ( N , J α , α = 1 , 2 , 3 ) (N, \mathcal {J}^\alpha , \alpha =1,2,3) be Hyperkähler manifolds. Suppose that u k u_k is a sequence of stationary quaternionic maps and converges weakly to u u in H 1 , 2 ( M , N ) H^{1,2}(M,N) , we derive a blow-up formula for lim k → ∞ d ( u k ∗ J α ) \lim _{k\to \infty }d(u_k^*\mathcal {J}^\alpha ) , for α = 1 , 2 , 3 \alpha =1,2,3 , in the weak sense. As a corollary, we show that the maps constructed by Chen-Li [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa Cl. Sci. (5) 4 (2005), pp. 375–388] and by Foscolo [J. Differential Geom. 112 (2019), pp. 79–120] cannot be tangent maps (c.f Li and Tian [Internat. Math. Res. Notices 14 (1998), pp. 735–755], Theorem 3.1) of a stationary quaternionic map satisfing d ( u ∗ J α ) = 0 d(u^*\mathcal {J}^\alpha )=0 .

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of various harmonic maps from Hermitian manifolds to Kaehler, Hermitian and Riemannian manifolds respectively. By using refined Bochner formulas on Hermitian (possibly non-Kaehler) manifolds, we derive new rigidity results on Hermitian harmonic maps from compact Hermitian manifolds to Riemannian manifolds, and we also obtain the complex analyticity of pluri-harmonic maps from compact complex manifolds to compact Kaehler manifolds (and Riemannian manifolds) with non-degenerate curvatures, which are analogous to several fundamental results in [28,Siu], [14,Jost-Yau] and [26, Sampson].

Abstract:The k-Cauchy-Fueter complex in quaternionic analysis is the counterpart of the Dolbeault complex in complex analysis. In this paper, we find the explicit transformation formula of these complexes under SL(n+1,ℍ), which acts on ℍ^ n as quaternionic fractional linear transformations. These transformation formulae have several interesting applications to k-regular functions, the quaternionic counterpart of holomorphic functions, and geometry of domains. They allow us to construct the k-Cauchy-Fueter complex over locally projective flat manifolds explicitly and introduce various notions of pluripotential theory on this kind of manifolds. We also introduce a quaternionic projectively invariant operator from the quaternionic Monge-Ampère operator, which can be used to find projectively invariant defining density of a domain, generalizing Fefferman's construction in complex analysis.
Quaternion-Kähler manifolds with non-negative quaternionic sectional curvature

Abstract:Compact Hermitian symmetric spaces are Kähler manifolds with constant scalar curvature and non-negative sectional curvature. A famous result by A. Gray states that, conversely, a compact simply connected Kähler manifold with constant scalar curvature and non-negative sectional curvature is a Hermitian symmetric space. The aim of the present article is to transpose Gray's result to the quaternion-Kähler setting. In order to achieve this, we introduce the quaternionic sectional curvature of quaternion-Kähler manifolds, we show that every Wolf space has non-negative quaternionic sectional curvature, and we prove that, conversely, every quaternion-Kähler manifold with non-negative quaternionic sectional curvature is a Wolf space. The proof makes crucial use of the nearly Kähler twistor spaces of positive quaternion-Kähler manifolds.

Differential Geometry and its Applications

Abstract:Penrose's two-spinor notation for 4-dimensional Lorentzian manifolds is extended to two-component notation for quaternionic manifolds, which is a useful tool for calculation. We can construct a family of quaternionic complexes over unimodular quaternionic manifolds only by elementary calculation. On complex quaternionic manifolds as complexification of quaternionic Kähler manifolds, the existence of these complexes was established by Baston by using twistor transformations and spectral sequences. Unimodular quaternionic manifolds constitute a large nice class of quaternionic manifolds: there exists a very special curvature decomposition; the conformal change of a unimodular quaternionic structure is still unimodular quaternionic; the complexes over such manifolds are conformally invariant. This class of manifolds is the real version of torsion-free QCFs introduced by Bailey and Eastwood. These complexes are elliptic. We also obtain a Weitzenböck formula to establish vanishing of the cohomology groups of these complexes for quaternionic Kähler manifolds with negative scalar curvatures.
Hermitian pluriharmonic maps between almost Hermitian manifolds

Abstract:In the case where both the domain and target manifolds are almost Hermitian, we introduce the concept of Hermitian pluriharmonic maps. We prove that any holomorphic or anti-holomorphic map between almost Hermitian manifolds is Hermitian pluriharmonic. We also establish some monotonicity formulae for the partial energies of Hermitian pluriharmonic maps into Kähler manifolds. As an application, under appropriate assumptions on the growth of the partial energies, some holomorphicity results are proven.

Abstract:We describe explicitly all quaternionic contact hypersurfaces (qc-hypersurfaces) in the flat quaternion space $\Hnn$ and the quaternion projective space. We show that up to a quaternionic affine transformation a qc-hypersurface in $\Hnn$ is contained in one of the three qc-hyperquadrics in $\Hnn$. Moreover, we show that an embedded qc-hypersurface in a hyper-Kähler manifold is qc-conformal to a qc-Einstein space and the Riemannian curvature tensor of the ambient hyper-Kähler metric is degenerate along the hypersurface.

Abstract: For a sequence of extrinsic or intrinsic biharmonic maps $u_j: M_j\rightarrow N$ from a sequence of non-collapsed degenerating closed Einstein 4-manifolds $(M_j,g_j)$ with bounded Einstein constants, bounded diameters and bounded $L^2$ curvature energy into a compact Riemannian manifold $(N,h)$ with uniformly bounded biharmonic energy, we establish a compactness theory modular finitely many bubbles, which are finite energy biharmonic maps from $\mathbb{R}^4$, or from $\mathbb{R}^4 / \Gamma$ for some nontrivial finite group $\Gamma \subset SO(4)$, or from some complete, noncompact, Ricci flat, non-flat ALE 4-manifold (orbifold). To achieve this, we develop a sophisticated asymptotic analysis for solutions over degenerating neck regions.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the stress-energy tensors of the partial energies E'(f) and E"(f) of maps between Kaehler manifolds. Assuming the domain manifolds poss some special exhaustion functions, we use these stress-energy tensors to establish some monotonicity formulae of the partial energies of pluriharmonic maps into any Kaehler manifolds and harmonic maps into Kaehler manifolds with strongly semi-negative curvature respectively. These monotonicity inequalities enable us to derive some holomorphicity and Liouville type results for these pluriharmonic maps and harmonic maps. We also use the stress-energy tensors to investigate the holomorphic extension problem of CR maps.

Abstract:We prove the long time existence and uniqueness of solution to a parabolic quaternionic Monge-Ampère type equation on a compact hyperKähler manifold. We also show that after normalization, the solution converges smoothly to the unique solution of the Monge-Ampère equation for $(n-1)$-quaternionic psh functions.

Assuming the domain manifolds possess some special exhaustion functions and the vecotor field V = J M δJ M satisfies some decay conditions, we use stress-energy tensors to establish some monotonicity formulas of partial energies of Hermitian pluriharmonic maps. Hermitian structures on a class of quaternionic Kähler manifolds

Abstract:Any quaternionic Kähler manifold $(\bar N,g_{\bar N},\mathcal Q)$ equipped with a Killing vector field $X$ with nowhere vanishing quaternionic moment map carries an integrable almost complex structure $J_1$ that is a section of the quaternionic structure $\mathcal Q$. Using the HK/QK correspondence, we study properties of the almost Hermitian structure $(g_{\bar N},\tilde J_1)$ obtained by changing the sign of $J_1$ on the distribution spanned by $X$ and $J_1X$. In particular, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for its integrability and for it being conformally Kähler. We show that for a large class of quaternionic Kähler manifolds containing the one-loop deformed c-map spaces, the structure $\tilde J_1$ is integrable. We do also show that the integrability of $\tilde J_1$ implies that $(g_{\bar N},\tilde J_1)$ is conformally Kähler in dimension four, but not in higher dimensions. In the special case of the one-loop deformation of the quaternionic Kähler symmetric spaces dual to the complex Grassmannians of two-planes we construct a third canonical Hermitian structure $(g_{\bar N},\hat J_1)$. Finally, we give a complete local classification of quaternionic Kähler four-folds for which $\tilde J_1$ is integrable and show that these are either locally symmetric or carry a cohomogeneity $1$ isometric action generated by one of the Lie algebras $\mathfrak{o}(2)\ltimes\mathfrak{heis}_3(\mathbb R)$, $\mathfrak{u}(2)$, or $\mathfrak{u}(1,1)$.

Abstract:We introduce the quaternionic Mahler measure for non-commutative polynomials, extending the classical complex Mahler measure. We establish the existence of quaternionic Mahler measure for slice regular polynomials in one and two variables. We study the quaternionic Mahler measure for real and slice regular polynomials, and consider the associated Lehmer problem. Various formulas of quaternionic Mahler measures are proved.

Abstract:We exploit the Cartan-K\"ahler theory to prove the local existence of real analytic quaternionic contact structures for any prescribed values of the respective curvature functions and their covariant derivatives at a given point on a manifold. We show that, in a certain sense, the different real analytic quaternionic contact geometries in $4n+3$ dimensions depend, modulo diffeomorphisms, on $2n+2$ real analytic functions of $2n+3$ variables.
