Abstract:In this note, we consider relative difference sets with the parameter (m, 2, m - 1, m-2/2) in a group G relative to a subgroup N. In the splitting case, G = H x N, we give a lower bound for the size of the commutator group H', and we show that H can not have a homomorphic image which is generalized dihedral. In the non-splitting case, we prove that there is no (2n, 2, 2n - 1, n - 1) relative difference set, in a generalized dihedral group of order 4n, n > 1.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. We first get some non-existence and structural results on ( pn , p , pn , n ) relative difference sets with gcd ( p , n )=1 through a group ring approach. We then give a construction of ( p ( p +1), p , p ( p +1), p +1) relative difference sets with p a Mersenne prime.

Abstract:Two integers in a line(circle) are called q-separate if their difference is q mod n.First,it is proved that n+q-qkkdenotes the number of k-subsets of the set {1,2,…n} in a line without being less than or equal to q separation.Then,it is proved that the total number of subsets of the set {1,2,…n} in a line without less than or equal to q separation is F~((q))_(n+q+q),where generalized Fibonacci numbers F~((q))_(n+q+1) is defined as F~((q))_1=F~((q))_2=…=F~((q))_(q+1)=1,F~((q))_(j+q+1)=F~((q))_j+F~((q))_(j+q)(j1).In addition,the recurrences relation of the number of k-subsets of the set {1,2,… n} in a line without q_1,q_2 separation,for some small integers q_i,is found.

Abstract:In the several contexts such as combinatorial number theory, families of sets of positive integers closed under taking subsets have been investigated. %To investigate some property of an infinite set of positive integers, Then it is sometimes useful to give bijections between the set of the one-sided infinite sequences on the alphabet set $\{0,1\}$ and such a family of sets. The most typical example is the family of sum-free sets. Although such a kind of families covers a large class of families of sets, there are only a few considerations on bijections for the case where the sum-free property is replaced by another property. In this paper, we explicitly give a bijection and its inverse between the set of one-sided infinite sequences on the alphabet set $\{0,1\}$ and a family of sets which may be contained in a class of families closed under taking subsets. Moreover, we show that some extremal property in a particular family of sets is characterized by a discrete dynamical system based on this kind of bijections.

A Combinatorial Model of Numerical Semigroup

Abstract:Let $A=(a_1, a_2, ..., a_n)$ be relative prime positive integers with $a_i\geq 2$. The Frobenius number $F(A)$ is the largest integer not belonging to the numerical semigroup $\langle A\rangle$ generated by $A$. The genus $g(A)$ is the number of positive integer elements that are not in $\langle A\rangle$. The Frobenius problem is to find $F(A)$ and $g(A)$ for a given sequence $A$. In this paper, we study the Frobenius problem of $A=\left(a,h_1a+b_1d,h_2a+b_2d,...,h_ka+b_kd\right)$ with some restrictions. An innovation is that $d$ can be a negative integer. In particular, when $A=\left(a,ba+d,b^2a+\frac{b^2-1}{b-1}d,...,b^ka+\frac{b^k-1}{b-1}d\right)$, we obtain formulas for $F(A)$ and $g(A)$ when $a\geq k-1-\frac{d-1}{b-1}$. Our formulas simplifies further for some special cases, such as Mersenne, Thabit and repunit numerical semigroups. We obtain explicit closed formulas for generalized Mersenne, Thabit and repunit numerical semigroups and some more general numerical semigroups. Finally, we partially solve an open problem for the Porth numerical semigroup.

A Variety of Euler's Conjecture

Abstract:We consider a variety of Euler's conjecture, i.e., whether the Diophantine system n=a_1+a_2+⋯+a_s-1, a_1a_2⋯ a_s-1(a_1+a_2+⋯+a_s-1)=b^s has solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ^+,i=1,2,…,s-1,s≥ 3. By using the theory of elliptic curves, we prove that it has no solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ^+ for s=3, but for s=4 it has infinitely many solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ^+ and for s≥ 5 there are infinitely many polynomial solutions n,b,a_i∈ℤ[t_1,t_2,…,t_s-3] with positive value satisfying this Diophantine system.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the diophantine equation σ_2(n)-n^2=An+B. We prove that except for finitely many computable solutions, all the solutions to this equation with (A,B)=(L_2m,F_2m^2-1) are n=F_2k+1F_2k+2m+1, where both F_2k+1 and F_2k+2m+1 are Fibonacci primes. Meanwhile, we show that the twin primes conjecture holds if and only if the equation σ_2(n)-n^2=2n+5 has infinitely many solutions.

Abstract:Let $m\geq 2$, $n$ be positive integers, and $R_i=\{k_{i,1} >k_{i,2} >\cdots> k_{i,t_i}\}$ be subsets of $[n]$ for $i=1,2,\ldots,m$. The families $\mathcal{F}_1\subseteq \binom{[n]}{R_1},\mathcal{F}_2\subseteq \binom{[n]}{R_2},\ldots,\mathcal{F}_m\subseteq \binom{[n]}{R_m}$ are said to be non-empty cross-intersecting if for each $i\in [m]$, $\mathcal{F}_i\neq\emptyset$ and for any $A\in \mathcal{F}_i,B\in\mathcal{F}_j$, $1\leq i<j\leq m$, $|A\bigcap B|\geq1$. In this paper, we determine the maximum value of $\sum_{j=1}^{m}|\mathcal{F}_j|$ for non-empty cross-intersecting family $\mathcal{F}_1, \mathcal{F}_2,\ldots,\mathcal{F}_m$ when $n\geq k_1+k_2$, where $k_1$ (respectively, $k_2$) is the largest (respectively, second largest) value in $\{k_{1,1},k_{2,1},\ldots,k_{m,1}\}$. This result is a generalization of the results by Shi, Frankl and Qian \cite{shi2022non} on non-empty cross-intersecting families. Moreover, the extremal families are completely characterized.

Abstract:We study the number of solutions $N(B,F)$ of the diophantine equation $n_1n_2=n_3n_4$, where $1\le n_1\le B$, $1\le n_3\le B$, $n_2, n_4\in F$ and $F\subset [1,B]$ is a factor closed set. We study more particularly the case when $F= \big\{m=p_1^{\e_1}\ldots p_k^{\e_k}, \e_j\in \{0,1\}, 1\le j\le k\big\}$, $p_1,\ldots,p_k$ being distinct prime numbers.

Abstract:A family of sets $\mathcal{A}$ is union-closed if it is finite and nonempty with member sets that are all finite and distinct (at least one of which is nonempty) and it satisfies the property $X, Y \in \mathcal{A} \implies X \cup Y \in \mathcal{A}$. Let $\binom{S}{k}$ be the set of all $k$-element subsets of a set $S$, and let $[n]=\{1,2,\cdots,n\}$ represent $\bigcup_{A \in \mathcal{A}}A$. Further, let $\mathcal{A}_B=\{A\in\mathcal{A} \ | \ A \cap B = B\}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{\underline{B}}=\{A\in\mathcal{A} \ | \ A \cap B = \emptyset\}$. We consider, for any union-closed family $\mathcal{A}$, the class of conjectures $\textrm{UC}_x \colon \ \exists B \in \binom{[n]}{n-x+1} \ | \ |\mathcal{A}_B| \geq |\mathcal{A}_{\underline{B}}|$, where $x \in [n]$. The extremal case $x=n$ is equivalent to the union-closed sets conjecture, also known as Frankl's conjecture, which states that there exists an element of $[n]$ that is in at least $\frac{|\mathcal{A}|}{2}$ member sets of $\mathcal{A}$. We prove $\textrm{UC}_x$ for $x \in [\lceil \frac{n}{3} \rceil + 1]$, and also investigate two strengthenings of the union-closed sets conjecture.

Abstract:We confirm Sun's conjecture that ((n+1)root Fn+1/(n)root F-n)(n >= 4) is strictly decreasing to the limit 1, where (Fn) n 0 is the Fibonacci sequence. We also prove that the sequence (n+ 1v Dn+ 1/ nv Dn) n 3 is strictly decreasing with limit 1, where Dn is the n- th derangement number. For m- th order harmonic numbers H (m) n = n k= 1 1/ k m (n = 1, 2, 3,...), we show that n+ 1 H (m) n+ 1 / n H (m) n n 3 is strictly increasing.

Abstract:Let A={a_s(mod n_s)}_{s=0}^k be a system of residue classes. With the help of cyclotomic fields we obtain a theorem which unifies several previously known results concerning system A. In particular, we show that if every integer lies in more than m=[sum_{s=1}^k 1/n_s] members of A, then for any a=0,1,2,... there are at least binom{m}{[a/n_0]} subsets I of {1,...,k} with sum_{s in I}1/n_s=a/n_0. We also characterize when any integer lies in at most m members of A, where m is a fixed positive integer.

Abstract:In this paper we construct a cover a_s(mod n_s)_s=1^k of Z with oddmoduli such that there are distinct primes p_1,...,p_k dividing2^n_1-1,...,2^n_k-1 respectively. Using this cover we show that for anypositive integer m divisible by none of 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 there exists aninfinite arithmetic progression of positive odd integers the m-th powers ofwhose terms are never of the form 2^n± p^a with p a prime and a,n in0,1,2,.... We also construct another cover of Z with odd moduli and use it toprove that x^2-F_3n/2 has at least two distinct prime factors whenever n isa nonnegative integer and x=a (mod M), where F_i_i≥0 is the Fibonaccisequence, and a and M are suitable positive integers having 80 decimal digits.

Abstract:Let $A=(a_1, a_2, ..., a_n)$ be relative prime positive integers with $a_i\geq 2$. The Frobenius number $g(A)$ is the greatest integer not belonging to the set $\big\{ \sum_{i=1}^na_ix_i\ |x_i\in \mathbb{N}\big\}$. The general Frobenius problem includes the determination of $g(A)$ and the related Sylvester number $n(A)$ and Sylvester sum $s(A)$. We present a new approach to the Frobenius problem. Basically, we transform the problem into an easier optimization problem. If the new problem can be solved explicitly, then we will be able to obtain a formula of $g(A)$. We illustrate the idea by giving concise proof of some existing formulas and finding some interesting new formulas of $g(A), n(A), s(A)$. Moreover, we find that MacMahon's partition analysis applies to give a new way of calculating $n(A), s(A)$ by using a rational function representation of a polynomial determined by $A$.
