Abstract:Since reform and opening-up, Chinese media industry has undergone profound development. The forms of media have become more diversified. However, the increase in the amount of media is accom-panied with some problems, such as the erosion of independence due to business benefits, and the relatively low quality of employees in media industry. Therefore, readers are often confused about how to select reliable media. To address these issues, we need scientific research to provide us with guidance, and help us under-stand the information characteristics of media.As a combination of policy-oriented media and market-oriented media, Chinese media industry is unique for its dual-track feature. The policy-oriented media is supported by government finance in some way, and mainly focuses on government policy. In contrast, the market-oriented media is self-financing, and pays more attention to the information demands of capital market. Prior literature finds that media coverage can help im-prove the quality of corporate governance, and enlarge the information efficiency of capital market. But for in-vestors, they care more about how to select media or news articles to facilitate their decision making. In other words, they want to identify the very media or news article that has a substantial impact on the information in-tegration of capital market. Therefore, further research should take account of media types and characteristics of news articles, in order to figure out the functional distinction between different types of media.Based on the dual-track feature of Chinese media industry, this paper discusses the differences and reas-ons of performance in facilitating information integration of capital market between policy-oriented media and market-oriented media. By comparing the use of positive and negative words in news articles, we find that positive reports dominate in all media. But the proportion of positive reports is larger for policy-oriented me-dia than for market-oriented media, while the proportion of negative reports goes opposite. We also find that the proportion of positive reports gradually declines from 2000 to 2013, while that of negative reports gradu-ally increases, and the above trends are more significant in the market-oriented media. Given news articles are carriers of information, so the differences of news articles' features between two types of media must lead to different performances in disseminating information.Using Python programming language and Genius Finance News Database, we sort and analyze all the news articles related to the listed firms. Consequently, we construct a database of positive and negative media reports, which covers the period from 2003 to 2013, and consists of 137 unique media. With a sample from China A-share listed non-financial firms from 2003 to 2013, we find that the media coverage can improve the information efficiency of capital market through the channel of negative news rather than that of positive news. Moreover, the above effects are mainly driven by the policy-oriented media, while the market-oriented media barely shows no influence. To explore the mechanism behind those relationships, we quantify the depth of information discovery and the accuracy of information dissemination for each news article, using the meth-od of textual analysis. Further empirical evidences indicate that the policy-oriented media discovers informa-tion deeper and disseminates information more accurate than market-oriented media, and this is the reason why policy-oriented media performs better than market-oriented media in facilitating the information integration of capital market.Our results imply that negative news is more valuable for investors' decision-making. Especially, we find that the impact of media on information efficiency of capital market is mainly driven by the policy-oriented media, which is helpful for investors to narrow their scope of media selection. Meanwhile, our results can help regulatory authorities evaluate and select media platform, and assist them to provide media with guidance in respect of news content.Technically, using the method of textual analysis, we get a database of positive and negative vocabulary which is compatible with Chinese news reports. Based on the vocabulary database, we further analyze the news articles in Genius Finance News Database by Python programming language. Finally, we construct a database of positive and negative news reports, which covers the period from 2000 to 2013. Moreover, we em-ploy the model of Latent Dirichlet Allocation to measure the depth of information discovery and the accuracy of information dissemination, which helps us explore the reason why the policy-oriented media performs bet-ter than the market-oriented media in terms of improving information efficiency of capital market.

Abstract:If the cultural system reform in the 1980s and 1990s was peripheral and sluggish, in the 21st century it has become a central part of China's unswerving reform and noticeably gained velocity after 2008. Aiming to build up a cultural market economy, the reform is transforming the majority of cultural institutions into state-owned and even state-controlled shareholding corporations, while strengthening the public service obligation of state financing in a few non-profitable areas. By chronicling and contextualizing reform efforts, this article not only documents some major lines of market development but also examines why and how the state is realigning its public and corporate sectors in such a particular mode of synthesis, especially in two leading media sectors: film and TV broadcasting. While Chinese communication scholars have documented how the overlap between the state and market forces creates dominant cultural processes in China, focusing on the state's straightforward efforts at commercialization, this article offers an updated understanding of verifiable policy and institutional changesespecially the de-commercialization' movement embodied by the return of public units.

Abstract:Accelerating the in-depth integration of media to achieve high-quality development in the media industry has become important for China's cultural media. We built a high-quality development index system for China's media sector and used financial data from A-share media industry listed companies from 2017 to 2020 to measure the high-quality development index of China's media business using the Global Malmquist-Luenberger production function method with the framework of the SBM model degree. We used the generalised method of moments model and the single-threshold model to estimate the threshold value of the media convergence degree and its factor distortions. Deep media integration can promote high-quality development in the media sector. However, insufficient and unbalanced development of media integration is the main hindrance to China's high-quality development of its media.

Abstract:With the continuous development of the Internet and the rapid development of mobile new media in china, media convergence has become the trend of mainstream media. The pattern of information communication has changed greatly, and it has also changed ecological environment of the network public opinion in our country, which has brought new demands to public opinion guidance and media rationality of mainstream media. At present, the network communication has a profound impact on media ecology and the pattern of public opinion in china, the network platform has become "public opinion pool" which in the interest demands and expressions of all sectors of society, emotional catharsis, exchange of ideas. Open, rational, stable sound constitutes a "normal ecological pond", but the network public opinion showed a lower ignition temperature and spread fast, poor credibility etc. So there are some problems such as language violence, group polarization, network siege and other non rational behaviors. In this paper, the causes and manifestations of media irrationality in the public opinion on the social hot events of mainstream media are described, the harm of media irrationality is analyzed and discussed, and the recommendations of media irrational measures are proposed. Abstract:On the basis of studying the status of new media public welfare and charity communication, this article conducted statistical analysis on 200 effective survey questionnaires. The results indicate that the credibility of the dissemination subjects in new media public welfare charity communication is insufficient, the homogenization of dissemination content is severe, and there are limitations in dissemination forms. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the screening and supervision of information released by dissemination subjects, strengthen innovation in dissemination content and enrich the expression forms of content, strengthen the systematic construction of dissemination forms and carry out cooperative promotion.

Abstract:Purpose - This paper discusses the transformation of Harbin Radio and Television Station in the era of deep media integration, points out the problems faced by Harbin Radio and Television Station in the context of deep media integration and puts forward countermeasure suggestions, responds to the call for media reform, and makes the crisis into a turning point. Design/Methodology/Approach - With the continuous downward trend of the social economy, the social economy has been greatly impacted, and the traditional TV media has also been significantly affected.This paper combines the actual situation of Harbin TV station, and actively explores a traditional media platform modeling transformation road, to accelerate the pace of Harbin broadcasting station media depth integration. Findings - Summarizes the trend of the transformation of the integrated media platform, and on this basis summarizes the problems of the transformation of the Harbin broadcasting station platform as the lack of market analysis in decision-making, the serious homogenization of content style and the lack of human resource reserves. It also presents three countermeasure suggestions: enhancing policy orientation and market analysis, strengthening top-level design, developing specialized content, internally fostering operational talents, and internally cultivating operation talents and building self-control team. Research Implications - This paper takes Harbin Radio and Television Station as an example, summarizes the problems of traditional media platform transformation in terms of market, content, and talent, and puts forward several thoughts on promoting the deep integration of media, which provides reference and reference for the transformation of Harbin TV station’s integrated media.

Abstract:The water pollution affecting human health is a crisis and big test, which tests the mainstream news media's ability and level of communication to respond to major public opinions and public emergencies. The contaminated water is a crisis and a major test, which tests the ability and level of communication of major news outlets to respond to important common views and emergencies. It aims to understand the perception and attitude of the international mainstream media towards China during the contaminated water. The work sorted out the mainstream media's reporting of China from the contaminated water to the present and selected the New York Times, The Times, and the Guardian as examples. We could understand the changes in China's international image during the water pollution through these mainstream media reports on China. The results show that these media reports on water pollution in China mainly focused on negative public opinion, which accounted for more than 70% of the total number of reports. Western developed countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States are out of consideration for their national interests. Using mainstream media to create public opinion that is not conducive to China, advocating "neo-colonialism", "China threat theory" and other false statements, trying to limit China's influence, due to the difference in cognitive habits and the influence of British and American media hegemony also affects the country The communication and understanding between the two have brought obstacles.

Abstract:International Communication Gazette, Ahead of Print. The present study provides a comparative analysis of the media convergence of China Media Group and US Agency for Global Media to illustrate the increasing US–China rivalry in international communication. It yields the following tentative findings: Both have been undergoing rigorous development at the technological and operational levels of convergence to enhance international communication; both are made to show more explicit loyalty to its official ideology, and both have become more monolithic via convergence; both have integrated their broadcasting services for an increasingly integrated market of information and news; both seem to be weaponizing itself against each other to fuel rivalry in international communication between the two nations rather than deepening mutual understanding and cooperation for mutual good and global good. The two case studies reveal that media convergence has not been able to liberate journalism from nationalistic constraints and transform it into an instrument to spawn new ideas and disseminate high-quality information and news for global public good.

Abstract:Since the opening-up and reform in China,great chenges have taken place in the Chinese mass media.Such changes are shown in the three orientations of the transformation.Firstly,it is the market operation of the mass media,which is characterized by the keen competition,the development of the mass media industry,and the graual growth of the mass media market.secondly,it is the change in the needs of the viewers.They need different forms and contents,and have different purposes.Thirdly,it is the competition from the international mass media.Either the forms,the channels or the means of competition have brought about greater pressure on the Chinese mass media.Only when the Chinese mass media can adapt themselves to the new existing environment,and are keen on reform and innovation,and become more competitive,can they put themselves in an invincible position.
