Abstract:In this paper we describe a proof of the formulas of Witten [W1], [W2] about the symplectic volumes and the intersection numbers of the moduli spaces of principal bundles on a compact Riemann surface. It is known that these formulas give all the information needed for the Verlinde formula. The main idea of the proof is to use the heat kernel on compact Lie groups, in a way very similar to the heat kernel proof of the Atiyah-Singer index formula and the Atiyah-Bott fixed point formula. The Reidemeister torsion comes into the picture, through a beautiful observation of Witten, as the symplectic volume of the moduli space. It plays the role similar to that played by the Ray-Singer torsion in the path-integral computations on the space of connections. The basic idea is as follows. Consider a smooth map between two compact smooth manifolds f : M → N . Let H(t, x, x0) be the heat kernel of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on N with x0 a fixed regular value of f . In this paper, we use a totally different method to prove our main results by using the Laguerre calculus, which is more direct from the point of view of Fourier analysis.

Abstract:Abstract The aim of this paper is threefold. First, we obtain the precise bounds for the heat kernel on isotropic Heisenberg groups by using well-known results in the three-dimensional case. Second, we study the asymptotic estimates at infinity for the heat kernel on nonisotropic Heisenberg groups. As a consequence, we give uniform upper and lower estimates of the heat kernel, and complete its short-time behavior obtained by Beals–Gaveau–Greiner. Third, we prove that the uniform asymptotic behaviour at infinity (so the small-time asymptotic behaviour) of the heat kernel for Grushin operators, obtained by the first author, are still valid in two and three dimensions.

Abstract:Let α(x) be a measurable function taking values in [α1,α2] for 0<α1⩽α2<2, and κ(x,z) be a positive measurable function that is symmetric in z and bounded between two positive constants. Under uniform Hölder continuous assumptions on α(x) and x↦κ(x,z), we obtain existence, upper and lower bounds, and regularity properties of the heat kernel associated with the following non-local operator of variable order Lf(x)=∫Rd(f(x+z)−f(x)−〈∇f(x),z〉1{|z|⩽1})κ(x,z)|z|d+α(x)dz. In particular, we show that the operator L generates a conservative Feller process on Rd having strong Feller property, which is usually assumed a priori in the literature to study analytic properties of L via probabilistic approaches. Our near-diagonal estimates and lower bound estimates of the heat kernel depend on the local behavior of index function α(x). When α(x)≡α∈(0,2), our results recover some results by Chen and Kumagai (2003) and Chen and Zhang (2016).

Abstract:Let L = − Δ H n + μ be a generalized Schrödinger operator on the Heisenberg group H n , where Δ H n is the sub-Laplacian, and μ is a nonnegative Radon measure satisfying certain conditions. In this paper, we first establish some estimates of the fundamental solution and the heat kernel of L. Applying these estimates, we then study the Hardy spaces H L 1 ( H n ) introduced in terms of the maximal function associated with the heat semigroup e − t L ; in particular, we obtain an atomic decomposition of H L 1 ( H n ) , and prove the Riesz transform characterization of H L 1 ( H n ) . The dual space of H L 1 ( H n ) is also studied.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss various maximal functions on the Laguerre hypergroup K including the heat maximal function, the Poisson maximal function, and the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function which is consistent with the structure of hypergroup of K. We shall establish the weak type (1, 1) estimates for these maximal functions. The L(p) estimates for p > 1 follow from the interpolation. Some applications are included.

Abstract:This paper presents an alternative method to prove the heat kernel asymptotics for the Kodaira Laplacian with respect to the high power of a holomorphic Hermitian line bundle $(L,h^L)$ over a possibly non-compact Hermitian manifold $(M,\omega)$. The approach used in this work employs a scaling technique and is applicable to $M$ regardless of its compactness.

Abstract:Polterovich proved a remarkable closed formula for heat kernel coefficients of the Laplace operator on compact Riemannian manifolds involving powers of Laplacians acting on the distance function. In the case of Kähler manifolds, we prove a combinatorial formula for powers of the complex Laplacian and use it to derive an explicit graph theoretic formula for the numerics in heat coefficients as a linear combination of metric jets based on Polterovich's formula.

Abstract:We derive a Harnack inequality for positive solutions of the f-heat equation and Gaussian upper and lower bound estimates for the f-heat kernel on complete smooth metric measure spaces with Bakry–Émery Ricci curvature bounded below. Both upper and lower bound estimates are sharp when the Bakry–Émery Ricci curvature is nonnegative. The main argument is the De Giorgi–Nash–Moser theory. As applications, we prove an $L_f^1$-Liouville theorem for f-subharmonic functions and an $L_f^1$-uniqueness theorem for f-heat equations when f has at most linear growth. We also obtain eigenvalues estimates and f-Green’s function estimates for the f-Laplace operator.

Abstract:We study the heat kernel of a regular symmetric Dirichlet form on a metric space with doubling measure, in particular, a connection between the properties of the jump measure and the long time behaviour of the heat kernel. Abstract:We give necessary and sufficient conditions for sub-Gaussian estimates of the heat kernel of a strongly local regular Dirichlet form on a metric measure space. The conditions for two-sided estimates are given in terms of the generalized capacity inequality and the Poincare inequality. The main difficulty lies in obtaining the elliptic Harnack inequality under these assumptions. The conditions for upper bound alone are given in terms of the generalized capacity inequality and the Faber-Krahn inequality.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to develop the theory of product Hardy spaces associated with operators which possess the weak assumption of Davies--Gaffney heat kernel estimates, in the setting of spaces of homogeneous type. We also establish a Calderón--Zygmund decomposition on product spaces, which is of independent interest, and use it to study the interpolation of these product Hardy spaces. We then show that under the assumption of generalized Gaussian estimates, the product Hardy spaces coincide with the Lebesgue spaces, for an appropriate range of~$p$.

Abstract:This paper studies Brownian motion and heat kernel measure on a class of infinite dimensional Lie groups. We prove a Cameron–Martin type quasi-invariance theorem for the heat kernel measure and give estimates on the Lp norms of the Radon–Nikodym derivatives. We also prove that a logarithmic Sobolev inequality holds in this setting.
