Abstract:Reservoir engineering theories with sound physical background of production prediction in gas flooding reservoirs are still unavailable for the coupled complexities of phase behavior of gas and oil mixture, seepage flow of multiple phases and highly uncertainty in our understanding of geological bodies, especially in tight reservoirs.New theory of oil production prediction in gas flooding tight reservoirs is presented.Method of gas flooding recovery factor computation has been put forward by incorporating formation geological conditions, residual oil saturation when gas injection started, level of miscibility and well spacing of gas flooding.Oil Production Rate(OPR)from gas flooding and its absolute decline rate have been derived based on the intrinsic differential relationships between these above physical quantities under acceptable assumptions from core flooding experiments and from oil field development experience.A new concept,‘OPR Multiplier due to Gas Flooding'is defined firstly with its computation method provided. It's discovered that‘OPR Multiplier'is determined by the ratio of initial microcosmic displacement efficiency of gas to that of water and general recovery of reserves at the time of flooding conversion. Its comparison among 18 gas(including carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon gas) injection projects worldwide gives the average relative error of 6.90%,which shows the high effectiveness of the new theory and also explains why the observed ratios of gas flooding OPR to water flooding OPR vary so much among these different reservoirs.Theoretical findings above pave the way for rational production allocation in gas flooding reservoirs and lead to more reliable, prompt strategic or development planning.
