Abstract:Disinterestedness is the symbol of modern Western aesthetics.But we find a similar theory in traditional Chinese aesthetics,which is summarized under the concept of aesthetic mind advocated by Ye Lang and others.Therefore,the modernization of Chinese aesthetics is different from its Western counterpart.The latter is a transition from heteronomous aesthetics to autonomous aesthetics,while the former is one from the autonomous to the heteronomous.However,due to the strong influence by Western modernity during the modernization processes in China,the modernization of Chinese aesthetics is quite complicated:On the one hand,we can find its development to the heteronomous,while on the other hand,its return to the autonomous.Nowadays modern Western autonomous aesthetics and its traditional Chinese counterpart are echoing each other over a long distance.A dialogue between modern Chinese heteronomous aesthetics and its post-modern Western counterpart is expected.
