Abstract:This paper elaborates the development of spatial structure in our country.Because the forms and types are colorful and incessantly innovating,it is necessary to divide spatial structure by component elements.After the 21th century,the development of our nation’s spatial structure comes into a new period that the application range and fields for spatial structure extend continuously.Besides the large-span public buildings such as gymnasiums and airports,there are extensive and innovative applications including large-scale railway stations,stations awning without column,bridges and high-rise buildings for spatial structure.About the international cooperation,it is suggested to have an open mind and optimistic view towards the fact that that architecture scheme for our nation’s spatial structures are frequently led by foreign companies.China is already a country with a great deal of the top of the world spatial structures,thus it is our responsibility to strive to create even better and advanced spatial structures.Some issues which we should pay more attention are pointed out.

Abstract:The research of modern Chinese architectural history formally started in the mid-1980s and the first conference held in 1986 in Beijing marks the establishment of the field. Over the past 26 years, this emerging field has developed fast and steadily. As a result, thirteen biennial conferences have been held since 1986, and academic products of various forms with over ten million characters have been published. This article surveys the development of modern Chinese architectural history as a field of scholarly inquiry in China and outlines some of keystone events in the past 26 years. It also charts out how some key concepts of the field, such as timeline, geography and research approaches have been evolving over time. The article introduces some of the most significant studies in modern Chinese architectural history from the middle 1980s to the present.

They come uniquely equipped with a cultural outlook characterized by moderation and tolerance and a vision of modernization with Chinese characteristics. Within the broader context of the Chinese civilization's attempt to reconstruct a modern identity,this has found expression in the Chinese Neo-modernism style and 'Xiaoqingxin' paradigm.'Xiaoqingxin' is a shorthand for the smallness(xiao),clarity(qing) and novelty(xin) in their approach to architecture.

Abstract:The development issue of architectural creation in contemporary China is receiving widespread attention, so it is necessary to make a thorough study on its development power. In this article, the five key elements of architectural creation are deconstructed as the object, subject, vocabulary, orientation, and environment of architectural creation, and their recent development is stated respectively. In the article, the five dimensions of the development power are interpreted as the driving force, impelling force, pulling force, guiding force, and field force of the development, and the corresponding relationships between these five dimensions of development power and the development of those five key elements of architectural creation are established respectively. Based on the above, the in-depth relevance of architectural creation and its development power in contemporary China is obtained.

Abstract:In the first half of the 20th century, Chinese renaissance style became the dominant architectural style in China, with striking characters such as big roof and exquisite decorations.Such style was adopted by American architects in chapels and educational facilities,by Kuomindang in Nanjing,by Japanese in northeast China, and by PRC after 1949. Distinctly different as political and social situations may be, concerns on nationalism ran through the period of modern China.Architecture was regarded as a manner to represent the idea of nationality and modernity.This paper discusses protest and construction,the two sides of nationalism,and the influence on modern architecture.Besides,modern Chinese architectural history should be analyzed in the scope of intellectual history.

Abstract:In recent decades, China has witnessed a miracle of rapid urbanisation, and the development of traditional Chinese architecture has faced challenges as well as opportunities. Improper planning has undermined the well-being of residents, and many historic buildings have been demolished. Under the slogan of “high-quality urban development”, the value of traditional architecture is rarely mentioned. Therefore, research into architectural heritage and urban sustainability is necessary. This study focuses on Shandong Province in China, the birthplace of Confucianism and, to a large extent, the long history of Chinese culture. By studying courtyard architecture under the influence of Confucianism, the aim is to reveal the cultural profile of the new urban era while critiquing the problems in the urban planning process. The study adopts a qualitative method based on the researcher's field investigation and data collection, as well as one-on-one interviews with experts, to collate typical cases for analysis. In addition, this study also intervenes from a narrative perspective to facilitate the exploration of the value of architecture. The findings suggest that courtyard architecture embodies Chinese aesthetic and philosophical thinking, has theoretical and practical implications for living environments, communities, and urban development, and brings new insights that can better achieve sustainable goals while expanding the existing knowledge of architecture and courtyards.

Abstract:Abstract The article explores the morphological evolution of China’s 20 th -century architecture chronologically. Chinese Neoclassicism has played a major role in forming the 20 th -century heritage buildings surviving today. The phenomenon of Neoclassicism emerged because of the late arrival of China’s modernisation and industrialisation process compared with the West. In turn, in accepting and contesting Western culture, the Chinese elite have consciously relied upon architecture as a vehicle to uphold visible symbols of national Chinese identity and traditional Chinese culture. Meanwhile, in the foreign settlements of the treaty ports such as Shanghai, the Western Neoclassical style, along with other imported construction trends, also forms part of China’s 20 th -century architectural heritage. Western Neoclassicism’s influence on China’s new architecture became even more evident in the mid-20 th century, with the modern architectural heritage in Tiananmen Square as its exemplar. Nevertheless, the impact of Western modernist architecture on China’s architecture was minimal. It was not until the 1980s, as China reopened to the world, that various schools of thought from the post-industrial West flowed into China, which significantly enriched the types and sources of China’s 20 th -century architectural heritage. Modern Classicism, late Modernism and Postmodernism all found their way into China’s contemporary architecture.
