Breeding of a new vegetable soybean variety "Qingsu 2"

Abstract:The cultivar "Qingsu 2" was bred successfully from a single mutation plant selected from Japanese soybean variety "White Lion" in 1996.By consecutive selection and directive breeding according to the plant type,pod size,pod color,taste quality,yield and adverse resistance,a new inbred line "98-11"(was selected) in the 8th generation.The strain test during 1999～2000 showed that the line matured 2～3 d(later than) "Huning 95-1",but the fresh pod yield increased by 20% over "Huning 95-1".The regional(trials during) 2001～2002 showed that the line had such advantages as early maturation,tolerance(to low) temperature and low light,good quality and big seed size,and its fresh pod yield was averagely above(600 kg/666.7 m~2.) Its demonstration area accumulated in 10 provinces of China totaled over 13 333 hm~2.
